New York CNN —Google is looking to make passwords obsolete by prompting users to create passkeys to unlock accounts and devices with a fingerprint, face scan or pin number. Google said Tuesday that passcodes are easier to remember, quicker to use and offer more security. The company unveiled support for passkeys in May but announced in a blog post that the technology will now become the go-to option during password creation. “[W]e’ll continue encouraging the industry to make the pivot to passkeys — making passwords a rarity, and eventually obsolete,” Google wrote. Google will continue to support traditional passwords, and users can dodge passkeys altogether by disabling their account’s “skip password when possible” option.

[1/2] New York City Mayor Eric Adams delivers a speech during a meeting with migrants, community leaders, and mayors from the Mixteca region, in Puebla, Mexico October 5, 2023. That New York City's mayor has traveled thousands of miles to make his case highlights how the latest wave of migrants is reshaping the immigration debate among some Democratic leaders. Texas Governor Greg Abbott has been busing thousands of migrants north to New York, Chicago and other Democratic-controlled cities. They have said his remarks last month that the migrant crisis will "destroy New York City" are inflammatory. To counter this, the city should be making its own videos in the languages of the migrants traveling north, Goldfein said.

BEIRUT, Oct 5 (Reuters) - At least 60 people were killed on Thursday in an attack on a military academy in Syria, a war monitor and a security source said, with weaponised drones bombing the site minutes after Syria's defence minister left a graduation ceremony there. Civilians and military personnel were killed in the attack on the military academy in the central province of Homs, Syria's defence ministry said in a statement, adding "terrorist" groups had used drones to carry it out. The statement did not specify an organisation and no group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. Syria's defence minister attended the graduation ceremony but left minutes before the attack, according to a Syrian security source and a security source in the regional alliance backing the Damascus government against opposition groups. We don't know where it came from, and corpses littered the ground," said a Syrian man who had helped set up decorations at the academy for the occasion.

Just “tap tap” after you’ve raised your arm to wake up the Watch and you’ll take action on the active app. And for third-party apps, double tap will do the primary action if you get a notification. It may sound like a novelty, but in my initial testing I’ve found double tap to be surprisingly useful (and it feels pretty magical, too). I can see double tap evolving to become as natural a gesture as poking at the Apple Watch’s screen or spinning its digital crown. (And I’m usually the first to say if an Apple feature is mostly hype and little function.)

Demand for VPN services soared after Russia restricted access to some Western social media after President Vladimir Putin ordered troops into Ukraine in February 2022. Senator Artem Sheikin said an order from the Roskomnadzor watchdog would come into force on March 1 that would block VPNs. "From March 1, 2024, an order will come into force to block VPN services providing access to sites banned in Russia," Sheikin was quoted as saying by state news agency RIA.
