PHILADELPHIA — Former President Donald Trump said Tuesday that his biggest challenge in debating Vice President Kamala Harris is that she has shifted her positions on so many issues. She's changed all of her policies over the years," Trump told NBC News in a phone interview Tuesday morning hours before the debate here. He added, however, that he believes that makes it "easier" to define her in the minds of voters. Three sources who speak to Trump regularly, including one directly involved in the debate prep process, described Trump as either nervous or disengaged with debate preparation in the past few weeks. Trump, too, has frequently shifted his positions over the years, including on issues like abortion, TikTok and even birtherism.

The area, nearly all white 20 years ago, has since begun to teem with South Asian life. That energy is mirrored throughout the South Asian American electorate. Michigan is one of only five states with a South Asian member of Congress, Democratic Rep. Shri Thanedar, and Sawni says she’s ready to see a South Asian person in the White House, too. “South Asian voters and Indian Americans in particular are among the fastest-growing segments of the electorate,” he said. On a local scale, experts say more South Asian Americans are running for office than ever before.

Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are set to debate for the first time. Palestinian officials say at least 19 people were killed in an Israeli strike on a Gaza humanitarian zone. What to watch for in Harris and Trump’s first debateAfter 75 days of political upheaval, the stage is set — again — for a presidential debate. But instead of Donald Trump facing off against President Joe Biden for a second time, the former president faces Vice President Kamala Harris. Sen. JD Vance introduces former President Donald Trump during a rally at Herb Brooks National Hockey Center on July 27 in St. Stephen Maturen/Getty ImagesFormer President Donald Trump and Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance continue to falsely describe how one of their major policy proposals, across-the-board tariffs, would work. Trump has falsely, and repeatedly, claimed that China – not US importers – pays the tariff. “It’s fair to call a tariff a tax because that’s exactly what it is,” said Erica York, a senior economist at the right-leaning Tax Foundation. He also said he would impose a “100% tariff” on countries that shift away from using the US dollar.

Chip Somodevilla/Getty ImagesAs Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump take the stage tonight in Philadelphia in their first face-to-face meeting, the spotlight will also shine on the host of the debate: ABC News. Moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis will have a much different view in front of them than when ABC News first secured the high-stakes presidential debate in May. It’s a big test for the Disney-owned network in the only scheduled debate between Harris and Trump in the 2024 race that could serve as a make-or-break moment for either campaign. But Harris’ team wanted the mics hot the entire night and demanded the network change the rule.

In mounting an attack against Trump, Harris can pick and choose from a Golden Corral-scale buffet of material. “I suspect there will be some surprises during the debate,” Jason Miller, a Trump campaign spokesman, said Monday while briefing reporters. Will Trump speak more broadly beyond his base? Even when he knocked Biden out of the race in the last debate, Trump didn’t inspire key voting blocs. “He’s going to talk about what he wants.

Tuesday’s debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump is the culmination of 75 days of utter and unprecedented campaign chaos — and the beginning of a 55-day race to Election Day through equally uncharted waters. The best-polling third-party candidate in a generation, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., saw his numbers collapse, and he is out of the race and supporting Trump. The sides even flipped on the debate rules, with the Harris campaign (unsuccessfully) pushing for open microphones during the whole debate after Biden’s team favored turning candidates’ mics off when it is not their turn. Harris’ campaign put a policy page on her website only on Monday. For making it through the past 75 days of chaos, America now gets 55 days of unpredictability with little precedent in modern history.

Masato Kanda, vice-minister of finance for international affairs at Japan's Ministry of Finance, during a press conference after the Group of 20 (G-20) finance ministers and central bank governors meeting. Japan will nominate Masato Kanda, the country's former top currency diplomat, as its candidate to become next head of the Asian Development Bank, Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki said on Tuesday. Since the ADB was founded in 1966, its top post has always been filled by someone from Japan which, along with the United States, is the bank's biggest shareholder. That makes Kanda a strong candidate to take up the post. "(Kanda) is most appropriate to lead the ADB as he is well-versed in Asia-Pacific affairs and has built deep networks with executives from various countries and international institutions," Suzuki said at a regular press conference.

Here are six things to watch for on Tuesday night:Will Harris deliver the policy message voters say they want to hear? More than her convention speech, the debate will provide a platform for Harris to answer some of those questions. This image shared by ABC News shows the stage in Philadelphia ahead of the debate between Harris and Trump. Rebecca Wright/CNNWhen Harris sticks by Biden’s policies, Trump attacks them and her as a failure. What’s not up for debate is that Biden, though absent in person, figures to be a prominent figure on the debate stage.

Read previewIt was probably the most noteworthy thing to come out of Kamala Harris' much-anticipated CNN interview late last month: The Vice President, if elected, pledged to appoint a Republican to her Cabinet. "It may be difficult to find a rational, sane person who still identifies as a Republican" that would agree to serve in Harris' cabinet, Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut quipped. "There are a lot of Republicans that I think are capable of assuming Cabinet positions," Rep. Jim McGovern of Massachusetts said. "I'm not floating people's names for particular positions," Rep. Ro Khanna of California said, shortly after heaping praise on Republican Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania and former Republican Rep. Mike Gallagher of Wisconsin. Though he said Harris' pledge was a "positive step," he made clear on Tuesday that he's not interested in serving in her administration.

New York CNN —As Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump take the stage Tuesday night in Philadelphia in their first face-to-face meeting, the spotlight will also shine on the host of the debate: ABC News. And Trump’s campaign had already accepted the debate rules as sent out by ABC News’ general counsel.
