Health officials have closed their investigations into an E. coli outbreak linked to raw onions on McDonald’s Quarter Pounder hamburgers that sickened more than a hundred people, the Food and Drug Administration announced Tuesday. In total, 104 people from 14 states were sickened from the contaminated food and 34 were hospitalized. Officials said there did not appear to be a “continued food safety concern,” because McDonald’s had not served slivered onions — which investigators determined to be the “likely source of contamination”— on the Quarter Pounders for more than a month. And in many states, Quarter Pounders were removed from the menu altogether for several weeks. There have not been any new illnesses since McDonald’s decided to remove the onions from its menu on Oct. 22, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Shares of McDonald's have fallen 7% since the CDC first linked the chain's Quarter Pounders to the outbreak.

Axon Enterprise could be set up for continued gains in the months ahead, according to Morgan Stanley. Analyst Meta Marshall upgraded the stock to overweight, and her price target of $700 reflects about 10% upside from Monday's close. This comes as the stock has risen more than 146% year to date. "While the name is expensive and may need to grow into valuation given run YTD, over the long term, we see it as a core holding." "As a result, we are more willing to ascribe value to AI portfolio pulling through other products, which could lead to additional valuation upside (as prelim AI portfolio pull through is likely built into price after recent run)," Marshall continued.

The data showed that an estimated 197 million people shopped during the five-day period from Thanksgiving Day to Cyber Monday, still indicating relatively robust spending patterns to kick off the holiday season, which this year is poised to revolve around consumers’ search for deals. Data released by Mastercard on Saturday showed that Americans were selective about what they bought and that they took advantage of discounts offered on Thanksgiving and Black Friday. But shoppers also spent more this year: almost 15 percent more online on Black Friday from the previous year, according to Mastercard SpendingPulse, which measures retail sales across all forms of payment. In-store sales were also up but more modestly, at 0.7 percent, for an overall increase of 3.4 percent. As a whole, consumer spending, the engine of the U.S. economy, has remained relatively robust.
