Cases of West Nile virus are increasing in the U.S., with health officials across several states urging residents to take precautions. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 43 states have reported West Nile virus infections this year. "The trends we are seeing in our West Nile virus tracking data are unprecedented," Colorado epidemiologist Rachel Herlihy said in a statement last month. West Nile virus is the leading cause of mosquito-borne disease in the continental U.S., according to the CDC. There are no vaccines or treatments for West Nile virus in people.

CNN —UAW President Shawn Fain has become the X factor in the striking autoworkers’ pursuit of increased pay and benefits, injecting a level of chaos into negotiations that neither the automakers nor the White House predicted or quite know how to manage. The UAW on Friday struck at just three plants, one at each of the Big Three automakers. The Aedes aegypti mosquitoes that most commonly spread dengue have been resistant to insecticides, which have fleeting results even in the best-case scenario. "I think it may happen, but I can't guarantee it," Woods told a sub-committee of parliament's Treasury Select Committee. The finance ministry overrode the Bank of England to ease some capital rules more than Woods had wanted, which could make an insurance company failure more likely. This means insurers will have more money to invest, currently only a modest part of their portfolios is in infrastructure, Gerken said.

A targeted strike could shut operations for each company, depending on which plants and facilities are struck. One advantage for the union of a targeted strike is the potential to save resources and extend a possible strike. The union members who are on strike are eligible for $500 a week in strike benefits from the union’s strike fund. With targeted strikes, it’s possible that the companies will shut down operations and lay off members who are not technically on strike. GM’s statement did not address what it planned to do if their operations are disrupted by a targeted strike.
