OSLO, Nov 21 (Reuters) - The Norwegian government on Monday said it had agreed to assist Ukraine with gas procurement for the coming winter, providing funding amounting to 2 billion Norwegian crowns ($195 million). The funds, part of a previously announced aid package of 10 billion crowns, will go via the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). "It is important to channel the support through an established, internationally recognised organisation, which will ensure effective and transparent use of the funding," Norway's Minister of Finance Trygve Slagsvold Vedum said in a statement. Although they made up around half the participants in Covid vaccine trials, women were not asked about any menstrual changes as part of that process. Since then, several studies have revealed that Covid vaccines can indeed induce short-term changes in menstrual cycles. A 2021 study found that just eight out of 45 clinical trials that tested Covid vaccines and therapies separated results based on sex. In the past, menstrual changes have also been reported among those who received vaccines for typhoid, hepatitis B and influenza. Researchers don't know why post-vaccine menstrual changes occur.
Over recent years, NATO allies and Russia have scaled up military exercises in the region; Chinese and Russian warships conducted a joint exercise in the Bering Sea in September. Four Arctic experts say it would take the West at least 10 years to catch up with Russia's military in the region, if it chose to do so. "NATO is increasing its presence in the Arctic with more modern capabilities," NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg told Reuters. Now NATO and Arctic allies are changing their stance. Sweden and Finland have begun investing in surveillance and deterrence capabilities and military hardware including jets so their air forces can fight alongside Arctic NATO allies.

Arsenal beat Wolves 2-0 to extend Premier League lead

WOLVERHAMPTON, England, Nov 12 (Reuters) - Arsenal brushed aside bottom club Wolverhampton Wanders 2-0 on Saturday with both goals from Martin Odegaard to take a five-point lead at the top of the Premier League going into a mid-season break for the World Cup. The result left Arsenal first in the Premier League on 37 points, five ahead of Manchester City who lost at home to Brentford earlier in the day. Despite plenty of effort and passionate support from their fans at Molineux stadium, it was ultimately another miserable day for Wolves, who are bottom of the league on 10 points. They were watched by their incoming manager Julen Lopetegui from the stands before he formally takes the reins. OSLO, Nov 10 (Reuters) - Norway's Equinor (EQNR.OL) and partners are delaying the development of what could have been the world's northernmost Arctic oilfield in production, citing rising costs and supply industry capacity constraints, the oil major said on Thursday. Equinor was now aiming for an investment decision on the Wisting oilfield in the offshore Arctic by the end of 2026 instead of December this year, it said. Wisting would have been the fourth hydrocarbon field in production in the Norwegian Arctic. The Norwegian Environment Agency said this year Equinor had failed to show it was safe to produce oil from Wisting, all year-around in harsh Arctic conditions. Equinor and partners say they could have developed Wisting in an environmentally safe way.
Throughout the war in Ukraine, US destroyers have continued "operating with allies and partners in the high north to put pressure on Russia, to make sure that they know that we're there with capable platforms," Gilday added. The British Royal Navy followed suit this spring, sending HMS Prince of Wales into the Arctic for seven weeks — the first Arctic deployment for the UK's new Queen Elizabeth-class carriers. By sending the carrier that far north, the Royal Navy sought "to push the boundaries of UK carrier operations in the cold, harsh environment," the ship's commanding officer said. British Royal NavyHMS Prince of Wales' deployment reflects the British navy's increasing investment in Arctic operations. In 2020, the British navy "recommenced" routine operations in the Arctic, according to the UK's updated Arctic strategy, released in March.

Rome has special anti-takeover regulations or so-called "golden powers" to shield companies deemed of strategic importance from foreign interest. Marking a break with previous administrations, Prime Minister Mario Draghi's government has used golden powers to set conditions on scores of deals. Last month Italian authorities provided Lukoil with a "comfort letter" to help ISAB refinery get bank financing to buy non-Russian oil but lenders have not yet unlocked the much-needed funds.
[1/3] Soccer Football - Premier League - Manchester City v Fulham - Etihad Stadium, Manchester, Britain - November 5, 2022 Manchester City's Erling Braut Haaland scores their second goal from the penalty spot Action Images via Reuters/Lee SmithMANCHESTER, England, Nov 5 (Reuters) - A 95th-minute penalty from substitute Erling Haaland earned 10-man Manchester City a dramatic 2-1 win over Fulham on Saturday, a victory that sent the champions back to the top of the Premier League. "I was nervous (for the penalty)," Haaland told Sky Sports. It seemed City had done all they could until De Bruyne was brought down in the penalty area, giving Haaland the chance to continue his incredible debut season in England. Haaland has now scored 16 goals in his last 10 Premier League appearances. Arsenal have the chance to take back the league lead when they travel to Chelsea on Sunday.
Leeds United backed up their stunning win over Liverpool last week when they stormed back from 3-1 down at home to Bournemouth to win 4-3 with Crysencio Summerville again the hero with the winning goal. Haaland had missed City's last two games with an injury and was deemed fit enough only for the bench against Fulham. He was sent into the fray just past the hour mark with City, despite being a man light, pushing for the winner. Almost immediately he had a headed goal ruled out for offside after a VAR check, but neither he, nor City, would be denied. Pascal Gross's fifth goal of the season then secured the win for Brighton to move them to sixth with 21 points.
"We are raising the policy rate to curb inflation," Governor Ida Wolden Bache said in a statement. The future policy rate path will depend on how the economy evolves." The hike of 25 basis points meant that Norges Bank was sticking to its plan, Nordea Markets said. "A hike by 25 basis points in December is the most likely outcome too. That said, we cannot totally exclude the probability for a 50 basis points hike," its analysts said in a note to clients.

"We are working on resuming the dialogue process in November," said one of the people familiar with the arrangements. Maduro and Colombia President Gustavo Petro said in a joint statement on Tuesday they hoped for "a successful return" to the dialogues. This makes resumption of talks crucial for the opposition coalition, which has been diminished by exile, imprisonment of leaders, internal fractures and lack of funds. The talks were abandoned by Maduro's envoys a year ago after disagreements over the extradition of an ally of the Venezuelan president who faces money laundering charges.

Sixty-five miles off the coastal Norwegian city of Bergen, a drilling rig is punching through layers of mud and rock below the North Sea. The energy firms behind the rig aren’t prospecting for oil or gas. They are searching for a place to stash vast amounts of the greenhouse gases emitted by industrial facilities across Europe. The Northern Lights project—a $2.6 billion joint venture of Shell PLC , TotalEnergies SE, Equinor ASA and the Norwegian government—is one of almost 200 carbon-sequestration projects now in operation or in development around the world, according to the Global CCS Institute, a think tank that promotes carbon capture. When completed in 2024, Northern Lights will be the world’s biggest effort to sequester, or store, carbon dioxide underground.
Equinor's previous earnings record amounted to a profit before tax of $18 billion and was set in the first quarter. Equinor has said it sells most of its gas output on a day-ahead or month-ahead price basis. "Of course, the (gas) prices in Europe are very high. The European Union has said it plans to coordinate some of its gas purchases in the hope of bringing down prices. "We will cooperate with those buying institutions planned in the EU and negotiate gas prices in the future," Opedal said.
A suspected Russian spy was arrested in a Norwegian Arctic town this week, adding to fears about Moscow’s activity in the region after a string of recent incidents. “The person concerned was an intern at UiT The Arctic University of Norway, and thus not employed by the university,” the statement said. He said both he and the arrested man were part of a research network for students and researchers working on different types of security. It said that the “spy mania against Russia has been actively promoted in Norway lately.”“Everything Russian, whether it be state bodies, private companies or individual citizens, is suspicious and smacks of espionage,” it added. The latest incident comes after Norwegian media reported at least eight arrests of Russian nationals in recent weeks, suspected of flying drones and taking photos in restricted areas in northern and central Norway.
Markets are anticipating a potential slowdown in the pace of Fed hiking," said Lee Hardman a currency analyst at MUFG. The aggressive pace of Fed tightening has sent the dollar higher. Traders and economists predict another 75 basis point increase next Wednesday, but there is a growing view that it will slow to half a point in December. The benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury yield continued its descent from last week's multi-year high of 4.338%, and was last down seven basis points at 4.038%. That would be the second consecutive reduction in the size of rate rises after a 100 basis point move in July and 75 basis points last month.
Telenor Q3 gets surprise boost from one-off gain in Pakistan

Dented by soaring inflation and intense competition, the company's shares have lost 35% year-to-date, closing at a 10-year low on Tuesday. "However, the negative effects are, this quarter, countered by a reversal of SIM tax provision in Pakistan." The one-off gain could help Telenor meet its annual goal of unchanged profit versus last year, it said. The group maintained its investment forecast for the year, predicting capital expenditure would amount to 16-17% of sales, and reiterated that service revenue would see "low single-digit growth". "We see positive trends for mobile service revenue in the Nordic region, with a growth of 4% in the third quarter," Brekke said.
DORTMUND, Germany, Oct 25 (Reuters) - Borussia Dortmund drew 0-0 with already-qualified Manchester City on Tuesday to book their spot in the Champions League knockout stage with a game to spare. "We played much better in the second half. In the first half we conceded some balls and lost some counter-attacks," said City coach Pep Guardiola. "We finally rewarded ourselves against City with the point today," said Dortmund coach Edin Terzic. I have seldom seen a City game where they had so few chances."

MANCHESTER, England, Oct 22 (Reuters) - Erling Haaland struck twice and Kevin de Bruyne scored a stunning second-half goal as Manchester City earned a 3-1 home win over Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League on Saturday. The victory moved second-placed City on to 26 points after 11 games, one behind leaders Arsenal who visit Southampton on Sunday. City captain De Bruyne then killed off the visitors' hopes of snatching a point by curling a shot from outside the area high into the net in the 75th minute. But they fell behind to the type of goal City are not usually associated with, a long kick downfield from goalkeeper Ederson which landed at the feet of Haaland after a mix-up between Brighton keeper Robert Sanchez and defender Adam Webster. JOHANNESBURG, Oct 19 (Reuters) - The Norwegian, British and Finnish development finance arms have put $200 million into an African forestry fund, the organisations said on Wednesday, as part of a plan to invest in sustainable tree businesses in the region. Norfund has put $76 million, British International Investment (BII) $75 million and Finnfund $48 million into the African Forestry Impact Platform (AFIP), a fund run by Sydney-based forest investor New Forests. Getting companies in these sectors to curb emissions is seen as crucial to limiting climate change. New Forests, which said in May it was being acquired jointly by the Japanese companies Mitsui and Nomura, said it plans to raise a further $300 million for the African forestry fund in the next two to three years to invest in other plantation owners and related companies. Climate scientists described the shocking images of gas spewing to the surface of the Baltic Sea as a "reckless release" of greenhouse gas emissions that, if deliberate, "amounts to an environmental crime." A preliminary investigation into gas leaks from two underwater pipelines connecting Russia to Germany found "powerful explosions" caused the damage, Copenhagen Police said Tuesday. A flurry of detonations on the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines on Sept. 26 sent gas spewing to the surface of the Baltic Sea. The explosions triggered four gas leaks at four locations — two in Denmark's exclusive economic zone and two in Sweden's exclusive economic zone. Many in Europe suspect the Nord Stream gas leaks were the result of an attack, particularly as it occurred during a bitter energy standoff between the European Union and Russia.
