WASHINGTON — The Commission on Presidential Debates announced Monday the dates and locations of three presidential debates for the 2024 general election. The lone vice presidential debate will take place at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, on Sept. 25. The Biden campaign declined to comment on the announcement. He has bashed the Commission on Presidential Debates, claiming it is "very biased" and "stacked with Trump Haters & Never Trumpers." Last year, the Republican National Committee voted to require that GOP presidential candidates not participate in debates organized by the commission.

Five days later, on Oct. 23, the White House team's work helped yield the release of two American hostages, Natalie and Judith Raanan. Demands were made that Hamas produce the lists of hostages it was holding, their identifying information, and guarantees of release. Biden held a previously undisclosed phone call with the Qatari prime minister when the phasing of releases began to take shape, the official said. Shortly after Biden's call, Hamas produced details for the 50 hostages it said would be released in the first phase of any deal. Biden in a Nov. 14 call urged Netanyahu to take the deal - Netanyahu agreed.

Despite the luxurious lifestyle that National Football League players can often afford, New York Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito is happy to live with his parents. "It was a no-brainer for me," said DeVito, 25, in a recent interview with ESPN. Although he's a rookie, the New Jersey native has taken over as starting quarterback since the team's starting quarterback Daniel Jones and backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor were sidelined with injuries. "The decision was made since this level of football is stressful for a rookie, especially from the quarterback position. So everything outside of football is handled by my family."

Race stewards turned down the Italian team's request for penalty-free repairs because they said they were obliged to apply the regulations as written. "I think it's tough for a team to arrive in Vegas and to have this kind of incident," he said. First practice lasted only eight minutes before Sainz's Ferrari hit the drain cover in a storm of sparks. "You've got to say that's force majeure, that's nothing of their own doing," he told Sky Sports television.

KOLKATA, Nov 16 (Reuters) - South Africa coach Rob Walter is "incredibly proud" of the team's fight despite their semi-final loss against Australia at the 50-overs World Cup and does not think the "choker" tag applies to them. South Africa could not progress beyond the last four of the showpiece event again but they played impressive cricket to finish the group stage as the second-placed team. While a combination of bad luck and nerves stymied them in previous World Cups, South Africa fought tooth and nail this time defending a small total before Australia eked out a narrow three-wicket win. Australia got off to a flyer but South Africa kept taking wickets regularly to inject fresh drama into the contest and their lion-hearted bowlers simply refused to throw in the towel. For me, a choke is losing a game that you're in a position to win," the coach said.

MUMBAI, Nov 15 (Reuters) - New Zealand captain Kane Williamson on Wednesday heaped praise on India after losing the World Cup semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium, saying the unbeaten hosts were simply the best side around and were playing outstanding cricket. Williamson was proud of his team's fight during the chase but had no qualms in giving credit to India, who have won all their 10 matches in the tournament. "India are playing seriously good cricket, they're a class side at the top of their game and to come out in a semi-final and continue and repeat what they've been doing throughout this competition shows where they're at as a team," Williamson told reporters. "They're the best team in the world and they're all playing their best cricket, so that's tough. Williamson was effusive in his praise for Mitchell, who also scored 130 in New Zealand's round-robin stage match against India at Dharamsala last month.

FELCSUT, Hungary (AP) — A European Championship qualifying game between Switzerland and Israel ended with a 1-1 draw on Wednesday, a match that brought the Israeli team to Hungary after all scheduled games in Tel Aviv were postponed due to the Israel-Hamas war. The match was one of two “home games” Israel is hosting in Felcsut, a Hungarian village of around 1,900 people, as it chases a qualifying place in the Euro 2024 continental championship. Ahead of the game, fans draped in Israeli flags gathered outside the heavily guarded stadium, singing chants as their team's bus arrived. As fears of antisemitic acts are on the rise across Europe, the security of the Israeli team was a decisive factor in bringing the rescheduled qualifying games to Hungary. After Wednesday's game, Israel remains in third place in Group I of Euro 2024 qualifying, behind Switzerland and Romania with 16 points each.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin state Senate is poised to approve a plan to spend more than half a billion dollars of public funds to help the Milwaukee Brewers repair their stadium over the next three decades. The Senate is expected to vote on the proposal during a floor session set to begin Tuesday morning. As of last week, Republican Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu was still trying to lock down enough votes to push the package. Brewer officials initially said the team might leave Milwaukee if they didn't get public dollars to help with the repairs. The Assembly last month approved a plan that calls for the state to contribute $411.5 million and the city of Milwaukee and Milwaukee County to contribute a combined $135 million.
