I grew up in a big city and have, until very recently, always lived in cities. I'd already been on the hunt for a location within commuting distance of the big city when the pandemic hit. House hunting in a new location in an increasingly hot market — as a result of the mass exodus from the big city — was like taking on another full-time job. My three-to-five-year plan now includes the lofty financial goal of buying a remote property with more land and freedom. I'm keeping in touch with my mortgage brokerLastly, I'm maintaining close ties with my phenomenal mortgage broker, the wise and wonderful Lisa Okun.

CNN —The first week of the new-look Champions League came to an end on Thursday, with Barcelona and Arsenal both in action. It was the 17-year-old’s debut Champions League goal after his eye-catching brace against Girona at the weekend. That’s very important.”Florian Wirtz shines on Champions League debutIt took Florian Wirtz just five minutes of Champions League football to grab his first goal in the competition. In a speech Thursday, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah condemned the twin attacks, calling them “massacres” that “crossed all the red lines” because the devices exploded in public areas, with civilians among those harmed. Though Hezbollah “suffered a major blow,” a “reckoning will come,” he added, and vowed the attacks would not bring the group down. The Hezbollah chief also warned Israel that fighting on the Lebanese front will not stop until hostilities end in Gaza. Hours later, Israel launched a barrage of strikes in Lebanon, saying it hit about 100 Hezbollah rocket launchers and “terrorist infrastructure sites.”Meanwhile, Hezbollah said it launched at least 17 attacks on military sites in northern Israel. For months, the international community has been trying to de-escalate tensions between Israel and Hezbollah.

Iran is helping the Houthi rebels in Yemen target U.S. Reaper drones, which has enabled the Houthis to shoot down or damage several of the massive, unmanned aircraft, say two U.S. officials. The interference severely inhibits the U.S. ability to gather intelligence and increases the chance that the drones could drift into unfriendly airspace. The U.S. military has struggled to stop some Houthi air defense systems because rather than radars, the Houthis often use electro-optical systems to find targets. Iran sent a spy ship to the waters near Yemen to help the Houthis target ships in the Red Sea. It appears the U.S. plan to interdict shipments of Iranian weapons and destroy stockpiles of weapons and drones has failed to roll back Houthi attacks on cargo ships, Knights said.

WASHINGTON — As president, Donald Trump slashed a lucrative tax break enjoyed by coastal donors and suburban swing-state voters. What shifted more than the economy is Trump's needs, said Caroline Bruckner, managing director of American University's Kogod Tax Policy Center. The reversal is one of a flurry of freebies that Trump and his rival, Vice President Kamala Harris, are offering voters in the stretch run before Election Day. Trump’s proposal to repeal the SALT cap, which is set to expire next year if Congress takes no action, would reduce federal revenue by $1.2 trillion over a decade, according to CRFB’s estimate. But many voters in those counties would stand to benefit considerably from a repeal of the SALT cap.

CNN —Donald Trump’s obsession with election fraud that doesn’t exist in any significant form could drive the country into a government shutdown — and may even put the Republican House majority at risk. But given the tiny House GOP majority and Trump’s looming presence, every step the speaker takes will be perilous – especially if he hopes to cling to his job if Republicans succeed in holding the House in November. This photograph taken on April 6, 2022, shows a general view of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) plant in Dadri. The mounds of jet-black coal shimmering under the afternoon sun at the Dadri power plant are a raw illustration of India's coal dependence -- a habit that despite increasing pressure, the country is finding hard to kick. India's NTPC Green Energy filed draft papers for a 100 billion rupees ($1.19 billion) initial public offering on Wednesday, as it looks to cash in on the country's renewables expansion plans and a red-hot equities market. The company, a unit of state-owned power producer NTPC , will only issue new shares, and existing shareholders will not sell any stake, the draft papers showed. So far this year, about 235 companies have gone public and raised more than $8.6 billion, which exceeds the total amount raised last year.
