The S & P 500 closed at its bear market low a year ago Thursday — ending Oct. 12, 2022, at its lowest close since November 2020 . In hindsight, that dramatic turnaround was the start of a rally that saw the S & P 500 climb 22% from the close on Oct. 12, 2022, through Wednesday. Palo Alto Networks, meanwhile, has successfully pivoted to profitability, joining the S & P 500 as a result, and repeatedly demonstrated the quality of its cybersecurity platform. Indeed, an exchange-traded fund that gives each S & P 500 constituent the same influence — the Invesco S & P 500 Equal Weight ETF — has advanced only 11.2% since Oct. 12, 2022. Viewed through the top-heavy rally lens, though, it's not a surprise to see a number of Club stocks underperforming the S & P 500.

NEW YORK (AP) — Sam Bankman-Fried ’s former top executive blamed the FTX founder on Wednesday of corrupting her values so she could lie and steal and create false balance sheets, things she told jurors at his New York City trial that she never imagined doing before joining his cryptocurrency empire. “I think it made me more willing to do things like lie and steal over time,” she said. She said she once created seven different balance sheets after Bankman-Fried directed her to find ways to conceal things that might look bad to Alameda's lenders. “I didn’t really want to be dishonest, but I also didn’t want them to know the truth,” Ellison said. ___For more AP coverage of Sam Bankman-Fried and FTX: https://apnews.com/hub/sam-bankman-fried

I see the benefits in kidsWhen I was in high school, I avoided anything but the most basic attempts at school spirit. AdvertisementAdvertisementAfter attending a university with unabashed school spirit and spending over two decades as an academic advisor to middle school, high school, and college students, I've seen the many ways school spirit days can have a positive impact on connection, collaboration, and creativity. At a time when so many students feel isolated among peers, school spirit days can facilitate community bonding by increasing interaction and engagement. For elementary school students, focusing on a few school spirit days with a simple theme that do not require last-minute costume shopping reduces adult overwhelm.

Despite recent market weakness in several sectors, CNBC's Jim Cramer said he sees a bull market in cybersecurity. "You always want to buy the stocks of companies in industries where demand is most rabid," Cramer said. MGM , Caesars , Johnson Controls and Clorox have faced recent hacks. Clorox took a huge earnings hit due to processing delays and product outages, Cramer noted. To Cramer, cybersecurity companies such as Palo Alto Networks , CrowdStrike , Okta and Zscaler may be very valuable with businesses willing to pay high prices to protect against hackers.

Despite considerable progress, she said, "inflation continues to be too high, and I expect it will likely be appropriate for the (Fed) to raise rates further and hold them at a restrictive level for some time." The Fed targets 2% inflation. Given that progress, U.S. central bankers last month opted to keep the policy rate in its current 5.25%-5.50% range even as most signaled another rate hike would likely be needed before year's end. Speaking at a separate event in New York on Monday, Fed Vice Chair for Supervision Michael Barr said he believes rates are now "at or very near" a sufficiently restrictive level. The same Fed forecasts also show policymakers as a group expect stronger economic growth and a stronger job market than they had expected just three months earlier.

The lawsuit, filed against Tesla by the passengers and Lee's estate, accuses Tesla of knowing that Autopilot and other safety systems were defective when it sold the car. Tesla said its Autopilot driver assistant system is not designed to make a sharp turn on a highway, as it defended the system's safety. Sept 28 (Reuters) - PsiQuantum is aiming to deliver its first commercial quantum computing system in under six years, its CEO said as the startup announced a partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy to develop advanced fridges for its machines. "The first system that's actually capable of solving important problems that people want to know the answer to - that's just a handful of years away," he said in an interview. Estimates for the development of practical quantum computing by other experts in the field typically put it at a decade or even 20 or more years away. The company needs to reach roughly 1 million quantum bits, or qubits, to be of practical use, O'Brien said. Because of the immense computational power in quantum computing, there is a gamut of potential applications from materials science to national security to finance.

The FBI is investigating the MGM and Caesars breaches, and the companies did not comment on who may be behind them. In some cases - Mandia did not say which ones - hackers tied to Scattered Spider placed bogus emergency calls to summon heavily armed police units to the homes of executives of targeted companies.
