CNN —The striking writers and heads of the four big Hollywood studios have concluded a “marathon session” of negotiations, which lasted more than ten hours, without reaching a deal Thursday evening, a person familiar with the matter told CNN. It’s unclear when the studios and writers will meet again to continue negotiations. Discovery chief David Zaslav, Disney chief Bob Iger, Netflix co-chief Ted Sarandos, and NBCUniversal studio chairman Donna Langley — resumed negotiations on Wednesday with the Writers Guild of America. After the meeting, both sides issued a rare joint statement noting their discussions would continue the following day. Many productions had halted even before SAG-AFTRA joined the WGA on strike July 14.

New York CNN —Disney is greatly expanding its investment into theme parks and cruises, the company said Tuesday. The investment comes at a time the company is facing revenue challenges in its streaming services, movie and television assets — almost everywhere but its international theme parks. The theme park, which was announced in 2019, is set to include restaurants, hotels and, of course, rides. It will become the third theme park within the Universal Orlando Resort, stepping up its rivalry with Walt Disney World’s four theme parks. Marvel Studios' visual effects workers unanimously voted in favor of unionizing with the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, IATSE announced Wednesday. This marks the first time a unit of solely VFX workers have unionized with the group. The Marvel Studios VFX crew has more than 50 workers, according to IATSE. Now that the vote is official, Marvel VFX workers must engage in collective bargaining negotiations with Marvel Studios executives in order to draft a contract. Loeb told Marvel's VFX artists that it has the backing of IATSE, telling those who voted to unionize, "Your fight is our fight."

Wells Fargo analyst Daniel Politzer said the initial results showed the technology passed the test for bettors who want to gamble in between plays. "During week 1 of the NFL season, Caesars Sportsbook app had a livestream of NFL SNF. Latency was better than live TV (20-30 seconds), an incremental development in the OSB/media ecosystem that could potentially increase in-game betting," Politzer said. Increased in-game betting could lead to a higher hold for sportsbooks, Politzer said, which is effectively the margin that books make on all bets.
