Goldman Sachs highlighted a slew of stocks on its U.S. "conviction list — director's cut" selection, naming several "most differentiated buy recommendations," in an August 1 research note. Goldman's "directors' cut" is a list of stocks chosen by its U.S. research analysts and managers. The bank collated a list of "top ideas that offer a combination of conviction, a differentiated view and high risk-adjusted returns," before shortlisting 20 to 25 names. Industrial names on the bank's "directors' cut" list included several that Goldman said are benefiting from post-pandemic demand, such as building services firm Johnson Controls and waste disposal company Republic Services . CNN —First came Toys R Us’ roller coaster revival, and now Babies R Us is experiencing its own rebirth, too. Babies R Us, which went out of business in tandem with its parent company, Toys R Us, in 2018, is opening its new US flagship store on Wednesday at the American Dream Mall in New Jersey. Tru Kids had bought Toys R Us (which also owned Babies R Us) in a 2018 liquidation sale and had attempted to resurrect the toy store chain, opening two locations in New Jersey and Texas in late 2019. It opened a new 20,000 square foot Toys R Us flagship store, also at the American Dream Mall, in December 2021. Most online shoppers have come expect free shipping, according to a recent survey. It says companies like Macy's and Abercrombie & Fitch have raised their free shipping minimums online. Free shipping "wasn't going to last, and finally the party is over," Satish Jindel, president of shipping data company ShipMatrix, told the Journal. According to data from shipping technology firm Shippo, nearly two-thirds of Americans said they wouldn't buy something online without free shipping. "Having some type of free shipping option is now a permanent expectation," Krish Iyer, vice president of strategic partnerships at shipping software company Auctane, told Insider earlier this year.

Emerging brands like Hoka and On are beginning to compete against sneaker giant Nike. Analysts say they're concerned Nike's over-distribution is leading to "lifestyle sneaker fatigue." In four years, Hoka and On spent the equivalent of what Nike spends in two weeks. "Running has been a competitive battlefield lately with more and more brands joining the market," Donahoe said, but Nike saw 10% growth for its running footwear business over the past year, he added. Numerous firework displays are scheduled to light up the skies in and around New York City this Independence Day, including the 47th annual Macy’s Fourth of July celebration, which will send 60,000 shells into the night sky from five barges in the East River. While there may be a chance that the celebrations could be impacted by smoke from Canadian wildfires, which continue to affect air quality across the region, for now, several shows are still planned for Tuesday night. The Macy’s festivities will begin at 8 p.m. with live musical performances, including by the U.S. Army Field band, followed by a 25-minute fireworks display at around 9:25 p.m. This year’s “pyrotechnic salute to America” will feature a variety of new effects during this year’s show, and viewers can expect to see an average of 2,400 shells and effects per minute, according to event organizers.
