Jordan's agent, David Shaul, had previously said that Jordan had likely suffered a medical emergency that caused him to lose control of his car. "The world is definitely a much darker place today without the love and light of Leslie Jordan,” Shaul said in October. During the pandemic, Jordan's fan base grew as he delivered daily Instagram videos that offered comedic reflections on life during a lockdown.

In an interview with CNBC's "Squawk Box" on Friday, Delta's Bastian called the incident "unacceptable." "I don't recall us ever shutting down the national air space due to a similar type of technology outage for several hours." Travelers as flights are cancelled at Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) in Arlington, Virginia, US, on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023. Air travel disruptions eased on Thursday, a day after a severe pilot safety-alert system failure sparked the delay of close to half of U.S. flights. The FAA said a preliminary review traced the outage to a "damaged database file." Unable to fix the problem, the FAA rebooted the system, and ordered the ground stop, which it lifted around 9 a.m. on Wednesday. "When there's a problem with a government system, we're going to own it, we're going to find it, and we're going to fix it," he told reporters Wednesday.

Southwest Airlines stabilized its schedule over the weekend after about 16,000 cancellations, but its systemwide holiday meltdown could cost it hundreds of millions of dollars. For comparison, from Dec. 21 through Dec. 29 Southwest had scrubbed about 45% of its operation, a far bigger share than other major airlines, according to FlightAware. Now come two more difficult tasks for Southwest: going through thousands of passenger reimbursement receipts and improving the internal technology that contributed to the meltdown. The Dallas-based airline is scheduled to report results on Jan. 26 but is likely to preview the meltdown's costs before then.

Travelers at Baltimore Washington International airport deal with the impact of Southwest Airlines canceling more than 12,000 flights around the Christmas holiday weekend across the country and in Baltimore, Maryland, December 27, 2022. Southwest Airlines confirmed on Thursday that it expects to run a normal schedule on Friday after the carrier's systemwide meltdown stranded hundreds of thousands of customers over the Christmas holiday week and drew scrutiny from Washington. Southwest's operation unraveled over the holiday week after brutal winter weather swept across the U.S. "We have much work ahead of us, including investing in new solutions to manage wide-scale disruptions," Southwest said in its statement. Some competitors said they would cap fares for certain cities to help stranded Southwest passengers reach their destinations without surging prices, but fare searches on Thursday still returned some flights for $600 or more.
Southwest Airlines is still a stock worth buying despite the recent bout of flight cancellations, according to CFRA Research. CFRA analyst Colin Scarola maintained his rating of the stock as a buy. He said the stock's drop this month on the back of the cancellations has made it a smart time to buy in. Scarola cut his per-share earnings estimate on the stock for 2022 to $1.20 from $1.86. Southwest has attributed its challenges to internal technology platforms that the company says got overwhelmed by the volume of schedule changes .
