A measure of wholesale prices showed no change in September, pointing to a continued easing in inflation, the Labor Department reported Friday. The producer price index, which measures what producers get for their goods and services, was flat for the month and up 1.8% from a year ago. Within the PPI, a 0.2% decline in final demand goods prices offset a 0.2% increase in services. A 3% jump in deposit services costs pushed the services index higher, while professional and commercial equipment wholesaling prices tumbled 6.3%. Similarly, the index for gasoline fell 5.6%, holding back gains on the goods index.

Already, on Friday, JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo were rallying in midday trading after reporting their latest results this week, an auspicious start to the earnings season. A strong earnings season Earnings results next week will be dominated by reports from the banking sector, giving investors further insight into the health of the capital markets as well as the consumer. Several regional banks are also set to announce how they did in the most recent quarter as well, such as PNC Financial Services Group and Citizens Financial Group. "CPI Inflation data was slightly on the hotter side, with commodity prices (outside) energy rising more than expected. The good news is that shelter inflation is pulling back and that's going to pull inflation lower. Investors received fresh labor market data Thursday as well, with initial jobless claims jumping by 33,000 to 258,000.
