There have been some encouraging signs that business travel is rebounding to pre-Covid spending levels sooner than anticipated, according to the Global Business Travel Association . Business travel was essentially shut down during the Covid pandemic, with many predicting a slow slog to revive sales and a landscape that would be permanently changed. Now the organization is predicting global business travel spending will surpass its 2019 spending level of $1.4 trillion in 2024, compared with its earlier forecast of 2026. Some 28% of those who make the business travel decisions and 32% of those in charge of company travel budgets said their workplace will increase business travel in the coming year, Morning Consult found. Of course, the recovery in business travel can also shift if there are changes in the economic environment.

Shares of the carrier, which also maintained its forecast for full-year profit, rose 2.7% before the bell. Transatlantic travel is the industry's most lucrative long-haul market, accounting for 11% to 20% of passenger revenue last year at the big three U.S. carriers: American Airlines (AAL.O), Delta Air Lines and United Airlines (UAL.O). The carrier said it expects third-quarter revenue to rise within the upper half of its forecast range of 11% to 14% growth. The carrier said it is paying more for fuel than it expected but said maintenance costs were also higher than anticipated. U.S. jet fuel at major airports averaged $3.42 a gallon as of Tuesday, up 38% from two months ago, according to Airlines for America, an industry group. On Wednesday, American Airlines trimmed its earnings forecast, following revisions at Alaska Airlines and Southwest Airlines .

That’s discouraging for shoppers paying higher prices, but much of the acceleration was because of higher fuel costs. The inflation report was so highly anticipated because it will help steer what the Federal Reserve does next on interest rates. Even though economists are willing to ignore fuel costs when looking at inflation to find the underlying trends, households and companies don’t get the same luxury. American Airlines cut its forecast for profits during the summer because fuel costs are running higher than it expected. Spirit Airlines said it’s also paying higher fuel costs this summer than expected, roughly $3.06 per gallon instead of the $2.80 it had earlier forecast.

Delta and United called their seating capacity reductions a legitimate response to reduced demand, rising fuel prices and the 2008 global financial crisis. While a civil suit lodged against KLM (AIRF.PA) in the Netherlands is one of the most prominent, complaints and cases against other airlines have been mounting. Lockwood said the ASA would use machine learning tools to scan online advertising to catch potentially misleading wording. Separately, the Austrian advertising watchdog told Lufthansa's Austrian Airlines arm last year to stop making claims about a carbon neutral flight using biofuel. The lawsuit alleges that carbon offset programmes don't work as advertised and the company misled consumers. The company is investing in newer planes and sustainable fuel to "decarbonise" its operations, the person added.

Delta Air Lines is changing how customers can earn elite frequent flyer status and is making it harder for many American Express cardholders to get into the carrier's airport lounges, the latest reality check for air travel's era of mass luxury. Starting Jan. 1, customers will earn Delta Medallion status solely based on their spending, instead of a combination of dollars spent with the carrier and flights. Next year, Delta customers will earn 1 Medallion Qualifying Dollar for every $1 they spend on Delta flights, car rentals, hotels and vacation packages booked through the airline. ATLANTA (AP) — Delta Air Lines says it’s bringing former star quarterback Tom Brady on board as a “long-term strategic adviser." Brady is a seven-time Super Bowl winner for the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Delta did not disclose how much it is paying Brady. Delta said Brady will play a role in marketing and help the Atlanta-based airline develop training and teamwork tools for its more than 90,000 employees. Brady retired after the 2022 NFL season and is looking to build a post-football career as an entrepreneur and philanthropist.

New York CNN —Tom Brady has a new employer: Delta Air Lines. The seven-time Super Bowl champion is expanding his post-NFL career business ventures, joining Delta to work on internal employee training and appear in external advertising campaigns. Delta said Wednesday that Brady would become a “strategic adviser” to the airline. Brady will partner with Delta to develop and advise on “teamwork tools” for the airline’s more than 90,000 employees and take part in select marketing campaigns, the company said. Brady founded health and wellness company TB12 Sports and also owns a media company and the Brady Brand clothing line.
