Amazon Advertising has hired Kelly MacLean as its VP of its ad buying platform. MacLean, who joined Amazon late last month, previously spent more than 11 years at Meta. Amazon Advertising has poached a longtime Meta executive to lead a key adtech division, Insider has learned. The Amazon DSP uses automation to let advertisers buy ads on Amazon properties like Amazon.com, Twitch, and IMDb, as well as elsewhere on the web. The Amazon DSP recently underwent an overhaul that was 18 months in the making to improve its machine-learning and predictive algorithms.
Kim Posnett was just named head of Goldman's all-important TMT investment banking group. Posnett, 43, has long been one of the most senior figures at Goldman's investment bank. Posnett was previously the head of Goldman's investment-banking services unit, which acts as a salesforce for the global IB division. The former co-head of Goldman's TMT franchise will become co-chairman of the unit. The former would result in the IB services group, which functions, in effect, as a sales force.

Morgan Stanley thinks the personal computer market has likely bottomed and has pegged Dell Technologies as big beneficiary. The firm upgraded shares of the tech and PC company to overweight from equal weight. "We believe the PC market is forming a bottom, and we want to own Dell for the cyclical PC market rebound," analyst Erik Woodring said, noting that the first quarter likely marked the worst of the PC downturn. "Looking at prior PC downcycles, (2011-2013), DELL's stock bottomed one quarter ahead of the PC market bottom. Given we model PC market Y/Y declines bottoming in 1Q23, we believe the trough in DELL's stock could already be behind us," Woodring said.

Chromebooks, the budget laptops running Google software, are creating a lot of e-waste, according to a report from the US Public Interest Research Group (US PIRG) Education Fund. The report also points to how finding replacement parts for Chromebooks from different manufacturers, like HP, can make repairs more difficult. "Moving forward, these companies should design Chromebooks to last by improving device durability, repairability and sustainability," the US PIRG report says. Gutterman told Insider that, "we just can't afford to keep churning out technology at this rate, whether it's Chromebooks or laptops or phones."
