CNN —An Ohio restaurant is not responsible for a customer’s injury after a bone was found in an order of boneless wings, a divided Ohio Supreme Court ruled Thursday, affirming an appellate court’s earlier decision. Berkheimer’s medical records said that a doctor found a “5cm-long chicken bone” lodged in his esophagus, according to court records. Berkheimer sued the restaurant, a food supplier, and a chicken farm in the Butler County Common Pleas Court in 2017. In 2023, Berkheimer appealed to the Supreme Court, which agreed to hear the case, the release said. On Thursday, the Ohio Supreme Court affirmed the dismissal of the lawsuit, saying the customer could have guarded against a piece of bone in his meal.

According to the FBI’s analysis of Thomas Matthew Crooks’ laptop, Crooks searched how far Lee Harvey Oswald was when he shot and killed President John F. Kennedy in 1963. CNN —A reality show contestant who killed and ate a protected bird has been let off with a warning after New Zealand wildlife officials said cast members were tired, hungry and placed in a “unique” situation. Spencer “Corry” Jones, an American white water river guide, killed and ate the large, flightless weka during filming of “Race to Survive: New Zealand” last fall, CNN affiliate RNZ reported Tuesday. Swain said the producers of “Race to Survive” had a permit to film on public conservation land and were aware that protected species and plants could not be harvested or eaten. CNN —Vice President Kamala Harris is less than two weeks away from naming her own running mate. Democrats close to the process say the roster of leading contenders being vetted still includes North Carolina Gov. A new CNN poll conducted by SSRS showed no clear leader in a matchup between Harris and Trump. The former president holds 49% support among registered voters nationwide to Harris’ 46%, a finding within the survey’s margin of sampling error. The party has said its goal is to nominate its presidential and vice presidential candidates by August 7.

CNN —Tour de France champion Tadej Pogačar will not compete at the upcoming Paris Olympics due to fatigue, the Slovenian Olympic Committee announced on Monday. The Slovenian Olympic Committee cited “being too tired” as the reason for Pogačar’s withdrawal from the Olympics, according to Reuters, adding that his place in the team would be taken by Domen Novak. Pogačar crosses the finish line of Sunday's time trial in Nice, the final stage of this year's Tour de France. At this year’s Tour de France, Pogačar claimed six stage victories – the most since 2009 – and ultimately finished six minutes and 17 seconds ahead of Denmark’s Jonas Vingegaard. He capped off his latest title with victory in Sunday’s time trial in Nice, which marked the final stage of the race.

Eleven of those Chinese swimmers are due to compete again in Paris, and many of their rivals are preparing to go against them with a sense of bitter resignation. Rob Koehler, director of international sports advocacy group Global Athlete, told CNN that they are already anticipating the worst. In a statement, WADA stood by its previous decision-making and said an independent prosecutor had confirmed that its conclusions were reasonable. He said athletes feel as though World Aquatics and the World Anti-Doping Agency have failed them and that nobody outside of the sport is paying attention. While none of those swimmers want to publicly comment on the situation ahead of the Games, Koehler believes that they will publicly protest if any one of the 11 Chinese athletes win a medal.

CNN —The Philippines has announced plans to ban offshore gaming operators, targeting an industry that mostly caters to Chinese gamblers and has sparked growing alarm from law enforcement over its alleged connections to organized crime. Known locally as POGOs, Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators have spawned across the country, both licensed and illicit, employing tens of thousands of Chinese and foreign nationals. CNN —John Mayall, a pioneering Blues musician who was recently announced as a 2024 inductee into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, has died. “It is with heavy hearts that we bear the news that John Mayall passed away peacefully in his California home yesterday, July 22, 2024, surrounded by loving family. John Mayall gave us ninety years of tireless efforts to educate, inspire and entertain,” the message said. Called “the godfather of British blues” by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and bandleader was a pioneer of Blues music in England during the 1960s. Mayall was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2016.

CNN —At least six people are dead and seven missing after a fishing vessel carrying 27 onboard sank in the South Atlantic about 200 miles off the coast of the Falkland Islands. The fishing vessel, FV Argos Georgia, requested assistance soon after it began sinking east of the islands at about 4 p.m. local time Monday, the Falkland Islands government said in press release Tuesday. CNN has reached out to the Falkland Islands government to clarify the number of dead and missing. “This is a developing situation, and we will provide no further comment,” Sally Heathman, head of communications for the Falkland Islands Government, told CNN on Tuesday. “The Falkland Islands government sends their thoughts to all the families involved,” it added.
