LOS ANGELES, Oct 15 (Reuters) - Pop singer Taylor Swift ruled movie box offices over the weekend as her concert film transformed darkened theaters into dance floors and hauled in an estimated $126 million-plus around the world. Moviegoers dressed in concert T-shirts and sequins for screenings of "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour." That would surpass the $73 million that Justin Bieber's 2011 release "Never Say Never," the current record holder for a concert film, collected over its entire run. "This is a superstar debut," Jeff Bock, senior box office analyst at Exhibitor Relations Co., said of Swift's film. Fans pass by an image of Taylor Swift as they enter a cinema to watch Taylor Swift's Eras Tour concert movie in Mexico City, Mexico October 13, 2023.

The papers of Wheeler, who served as ambassador to Nicaragua, are held at the Library of Congress. But no one seemed to have looked at his almanacs, where he had the habit of making marginal notes. In one, Wheeler had jotted a list of enslaved people in his household, which helped Hecimovich build his list of possible authors. Her novel also includes a scene set in a portrait gallery, which similarly mocks the aristocratic pretensions of enslavers. Many of Hecimovich’s findings will also be used in a new edition of “The Bondwoman’s Narrative” that he’s working on with Gates.

2023's gold rush for Taylor Swift and Beyoncé music should continue to bode well for shares of Spotify Technology , according to Morgan Stanley. Analyst Benjamin Swinburne named the music streaming company a top pick and reiterated his buy rating. Heightened engagement levels and ongoing innovation should fuel further market share gains and help the company hold onto pricing power, he added. In the near term, Swinburne remains confident in the company's ability to retain pricing power and anticipates an acceleration in revenue growth during the fourth quarter. The record-breaking event has sold out stadiums, led to an expensive resale ticket market and heads to theaters this weekend as a concert film that's already broken records, surpassing $100 million in ticket sales .

London CNN —It was a painting in the lobby of a Benin hotel last year that changed the way Afrobeats star Mr Eazi thought about art. The works will also be exhibited in galleries internationally — in Accra, Lagos, London (where they will be displayed as part of a “listening experience” the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair between October 12—15) and in New York. “One of the most exciting things for me is that art represents an opportunity to discover people without a pre-bias… it’s exerting soft power,” said Mr Eazi. “It’s an ecosystem,” Mr Eazi summarises. “African music should be in African film and African art with African music… That’s culture, that’s the flood.

But “The Eras Tour” heralds something new and potentially game-changing in the movie industry. BTS earlier this year released a concert film, with higher ticket prices and limited showtimes. But “The Eras Tour” could be the start of an expansion of what, exactly, a movie theater can be. The movie, directed by Sam Wrench, would be a way for millions more to experience the Eras Tour. “The industry needs it and, frankly, so do consumers.”Meanwhile, “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” is poised to become the biggest concert film ever in about two days of release.

Bank of America predicts people will continue to spend big on live entertainment. AdvertisementAdvertisementMaybe the epic summer of Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, and "Barbenheimer" was just the beginning and not just a one-off outlier. On the surface, this contradicts some earlier warnings that while entertainment spending did prop up the economy, it would be fleeting. Bank of America did warn in its report that there is some risk in betting on "funflation" to continue. But if Bank of America's predictions are correct, the economy may feel the effects of entertainment spending despite the diminished sparkle of the performers.

The film follows a similar release by pop superstar Taylor Swift, whose Eras Tour concert film will be distributed in cinemas in North America starting Oct. 13. The concert films provide cinema chains such as AMC, Cinemark and Cineplex, with high-profile titles to help fill gaps caused by a prolonged strike by actors and writers in Hollywood. AMC's rival Cinemark (CNK.N) also announced that it will play the concert film in its U.S. theaters. Both cinema chains said their standard showtime tickets in the U.S. will start at $22.
