Tracking Typhoon GaemiGaemi was a typhoon in the Philippine Sea Wednesday afternoon Taiwan time, the Joint Typhoon Warning Center said in its latest advisory. The typhoon had sustained wind speeds of 138 miles per hour, which would make it a Category 4 hurricane if it were in the Atlantic Ocean. Typhoon season is year-round; however, most typhoons form from early July through mid-December. Most typhoons scrape or strike places like the Philippines, Japan and Taiwan; they can also hit the Korean Peninsula, China and Vietnam, bringing damaging winds and storm surges. Typhoons have also hit U.S. territories, causing billions of dollars in devastating damage to places like Guam, which was battered by Super Typhoon Mawar in May last year.

The bodies of two sailors who planned to sail from Nova Scotia to the Azores using green energy were found washed ashore at a Canadian national park this month, four weeks after they were last seen, the authorities said. CNN —A British-Canadian couple who were attempting to sail across the Atlantic have been found dead on an island off the east coast of Canada. The couple left Halifax Harbour, Nova Scotia on June 11 en route to the Azores, a group of Portuguese islands in the mid-Atlantic, around 2,000 miles away. It is not clear why the couple abandoned the Theros and got into a lifeboat. They stayed in touch after Clibbery moved back to Canada and Packwood visited him in Salt Spring Island near Vancouver, where the Theros was docked, in spring 2016. “He took me on my first ever yacht trip and I loved it,” Packwood told The Guardian.

The Environmental Protection Agency is set to announce $4.3 billion in funding on Monday afternoon for 25 new projects proposed by states, tribes, local governments and territories to tackle climate change. The funding could reduce greenhouse gas emissions by as much as 971 million metric tons by 2050, or roughly the emissions of five million homes over 25 years, according to the agency. Among the jurisdictions that will get funding, Nebraska will receive $307 million to reduce agricultural waste and enhance energy efficiency in homes and buildings. Pennsylvania will get $396 million to reduce industrial pollution and create about 6,000 jobs,. Ms. Baird said the funds could reduce Lincoln’s greenhouse gas emissions by 77 percent by 2050.
