Oracle shares have surged nearly 48% in 2023 and close to 62% over the past 12 months. Barclays thinks the company is set to maintain high levels of growth in the near future as its tailwinds have yet to fully take effect. "OCI, partly fueled by emerging AI workloads, will be key to the database and overall story." He added that OCI is well-positioned for an AI tailwind due to its close relationship with Nvidia. Oracle was also one of the first cloud solutions providers to enter the market with Nvidia's software as a service products, Lenschow added.

Growing demand for artificial intelligence servers should boost shares of Dell Technologies over the long haul, according to Morgan Stanley. "Importantly, this opportunity is incremental and not yet cannibalistic to general purpose server demand," Woodring wrote. "When we then consider the Gen AI story is still in its infancy - with demand outstripping supply - we believe AI servers can remain a model tailwind for years to come." Along with the AI story, Morgan Stanley views stabilizing hardware spending and better cost management and execution as key to Dell's upside from here. Many see the news as a strong signal that a U.S. bitcoin ETF will inevitably be green lit, which would help boost adoption of bitcoin. "If crypto trading transfers away from trading Coinbase directly and into ETFs (which, for many investors, might be the preferable way to get exposure), trading activity at Coinbase could decline further." Coinbase shares rallied nearly 15% Tuesday following the news, but the stock was down nearly 1% in trading Wednesday. Fed Chair Jerome Powell was almost brusque in his re-statement of the central bank's anti-inflation commitment at the annual Jackson Hole symposium on Friday. Tracking that rather than more-skittish policy rate futures would have proved a better guide to how subsequent months panned out and to the summer doldrums in bonds and stocks. And yet the September meeting could still be the 'big reveal' as it sees publication of the Fed's updated 'dot plot' that will likely show just where they then see the cycle crest. Here are three major reasons why Nvidia stock — which has amore than tripled so far in 2023 — has not finished its climb, justifying our $600-per-share price target. That's because Wall Street's earnings estimates have been revised much higher than Nvidia stock's more-than-3% post-earnings gain. A forward price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio is calculated by dividing a company's stock price by its annual earnings-per-share (EPS). Using Thursday's midday price of roughly $486 per share, Nvidia stock trades at a 46.6 P/E, based on fiscal year 2024 estimates. That makes Nvidia's stock rally largely an earnings-driven story, not an ascent rooted in multiple expansion.

It's time to buy spirits stock Brown-Forman , according to Morgan Stanley. Morgan Stanley's previous underweight call was based on limited visibility around gross margin recovery, the company's full valuation and slower U.S. spirits industry growth. However, Serotta now expects meaningful upside for the stock. Agave, which is used to produce tequila, has been a disproportionate headwind to the company's general margins over the last several years, Serotta said. Serotta also said that, while the company's absolute valuation is "rarely cheap," its relative valuation appears compelling compared to its peers Monster Beverage and Constellation Brands .

The upshot, some believe, is that there is now less cash on the sidelines to drive further gains and fewer skeptical investors to win over. The bank’s survey of fund managers showed cash allocations dropped to 4.8% in August, the lowest level in 21 months. Bearishness among retail investors, meanwhile, is at half the levels seen in September 2022, according to the AAII Sentiment Survey. Should the market stabilize, investors will likely reallocate more cash to stocks later in the year, she said. Of course, while optimism has grown, it is still far from extreme, and cash levels are far from historical lows.

US consumers have spent all of their excess savings from the pandemic, according to JPMorgan. The bank highlighted the softening of the consumer as one reason why stocks are poised to continue their decline. In a Thursday note, he said consumers have spent down the entirety of their excess savings from the pandemic, which at one point totaled more than $2 trillion. A softening consumer is just one reason why he is preaching continued caution towards the stock market amid its 5% decline, according to the note. Another headwind for the stock market is the fact that rich valuations make buybacks less attractive for companies when they're funded by debt, he added.
