"If there is a regime shift, then what has worked could be quite different from what does work," McLennan said. That means the growth stocks that dominated for years may come back to earth in the mid-2020s. He also recommends that investors diversify away from growth stocks that thrived under low rates and instead broaden out to value-oriented names. Valuations explain 80% of a stock's returns over a decade, according to Bank of America. Smead sees energy in stocks in Canada also outperforming in the coming decade, as well as European banks.

The stock market rally will diversify next year amid a broader, "normal for longer" trend, according to BMO Capital Markets. Chief investment strategist Brian Belski set his 2024 base case target of 5,100 for the S & P 500, which implies an almost 12% rally from Friday's close. In other words, normal and typical," Belski wrote in a Monday note. But that does not make it normal or typical," Belski added. One market trend that will notably improve next year is the percentage of stocks outperforming the broader index, Belski added.

Shortly after the opening bell, we will sell 175 shares of Alphabet (GOOGL) at roughly $136.28. Following the trade, Jim Cramer's Charitable Trust will own 700 shares of GOOGL, decreasing its weighting to 3.30% from 4.09%. We are starting the week by raising cash as the market is the most overbought we've seen in a long time. Any reading of 4% or more means the market is technically overbought (a reading of less than minus 4% means oversold). With this sale, we will realize a fantastic gain of about 360% on Alphabet stock purchased in July 2014.

As investors hunt for yield, many are turning to actively managed exchange-traded funds focused on bonds, like Pimco's Enhanced Short Maturity Active ETF . The fund, which has a 5.6% 30-day SEC yield, is a "a first-rate ultrashort ETF," Morningstar senior analyst Paul Olmsted wrote in August. Trading under the ticker symbol MINT, the ETF holds fixed income securities with durations of no more than one year. In fact, investors flooded into the fund in October, making it the actively managed bond ETF with the highest inflows last month, according to FactSet. Investors can capture that higher yield on the short end of the yield curve, Schneider said.

With respect to guidance, Nvidia called for $20 billion in revenue for the fiscal fourth quarter. During the quarter, Nvidia announced the GH200 GPU, which has more memory than the current H100 and an additional Arm processor onboard. As recently as two years ago, sales of GPUs for playing video games on PCs were the largest source of Nvidia's revenue. Nvidia faces obstacles, including competition from AMD and lower revenue because of export restrictions that can limit sales of its GPUs in China.

Japanese national flag is hoisted atop the headquarters of Bank of Japan in Tokyo, Japan September 20, 2023. Chinese smartphone companies like Huawei are rebounding in their home market, giving a boost to domestic suppliers — and increasing the pressure on Apple . Huawei smartphone sales surged by 83% in October from a year ago, Counterpoint Research said in a note Tuesday. Honor, a Huawei spin-off, saw sales climb by 10%, while Xiaomi smartphone sales rose by 33%, the report said. The report did not break out Apple sales, only saying a broad category of "others" saw October smartphone sales drop by 12% from a year ago. For context, Shanghai-based CINNO Research expects a 2% decline in Apple iPhone sales in China this year to 45.5 million units.

The stock market has avoided an "earnings apocalypse" following third-quarter results, according to BMO. AdvertisementThe stock market just avoided an "earnings apocalypse" following third-quarter results, and that should set the stage for more gains heading into year-end. "Despite an impressive month-to-date gain thus far, there is still a fair amount of negativity and concern regarding stock market direction," Belski said. With 94% of S&P 500 companies having reported third-quarter earnings results, 83% beat profit estimates by a median of 7%, which is higher than average. That's an encouraging signal, as more participation in the stock market rally should help drive a sustainable continuation of the current bull market.

The loudest investor chatter for months has insisted the heavyweights of the Nasdaq have been everything to the market in 2023. Sunday is the second anniversary of the all-time closing high in both the Nasdaq Composite and Nasdaq 100 indexes, which remain 12% and 4 % underwater even after their monster gains in recent months. It's relatively rare for the Nasdaq 100 – the most easily investable part of the Nasdaq and the one most reflective of the mega-cap dominance – to enter a two-year downturn. Only three of the Big Seven have outperformed the Nasdaq 100 over the past two years – Apple, Nvidia and Microsoft — while Meta Platforms has kept pace and Amazon, Alphabet and Tesla have lagged. Friday showed signs of outright rotation, the Russell 2000 up 1.3% versus a flat Nasdaq 100.

TOKYO, Nov 17 (Reuters) - Warren Buffett's vote of confidence in Japanese trading houses is helping Mitsubishi Corp (8058.T) overcome long-held investor wariness about its complex global business that covers everything from sausages to natural gas, a top executive said. "Until fairly recently, being an industrial conglomerate had negative connotations," Kobayashi said in an interview. Appointed as the trading house's first chief stakeholder engagement officer in April, Kobayashi is now focused on wooing investors who focus on growth, not just value. Berkshire first announced roughly 5% stakes in August 2020, with Buffett saying the trading houses "have many joint ventures throughout the world and are likely to have more". read moreStill, Mitsubishi is trading at a price-to-book ratio of just a little over 1, or at almost no premium to the value of its assets.
