McDonald's recently-released adult Happy Meal was designed to engender feelings of "nostalgia" among its older customers. Opportunistic resellers are taking advantage of McDonald's limited-time collaboration with streetwear company Cactus Plant Flea Market to try to make a quick buck. Another seller is asking for $25,000 for an unopened Happy Meal toy, and asks that the winning bidder also cover the $6.10 in shipping fees. In New York City, the Cactus Plant Flea Market Box retailed for $12.95. The fast food giant has brought back its collectible Halloween Happy Meal pails for the first time since 2016.

For Queen Latifah, who has released three films in 2022 and stars in "The Equalizer" on network television, having a wide and varied career was always the plan. Ever since her big break as a rapper in the later 1980s, Latifah says that her mom has advised her to "never to put all my eggs in one basket." Latifah, who is currently promoting her new partnership with Lenovo's Evolve Small Initiative, did just that. She quickly branched out from rap to singing, sitcoms, films and even hosted her own talk show at one point. When she had an interest in pursuing something, she says that she always felt like it was worth trying.
Not even Taylor Swift could rescue "Amsterdam" at the box office. In fact, the latest movie from the "Silver Linings Playbook" director "ultimately stands to lose anywhere from $80 million to $100 million," according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film had an $80 million production budget and cost $70-80 million to market, according to the report, but is on pace to earn just a fraction of that. The poor performance of "Amsterdam" adds it to the long list of big-budget movies that have bombed spectacularly, though it isn't anywhere near the top just yet. These are the biggest bombs in box office history, according to data from Statista.
Kevin Bacon is opening up about how he and his wife lost "most of our money" in Bernie Madoff's massive Ponzi scheme. "There's obvious life lessons there," Bacon said. Madoff's massive fraud scheme is estimated to have ripped clients off to the tune of $65 billion. Despite the massive financial hit he took, Bacon admitted that he didn't expect to receive much sympathy for what he experienced. "There's always going to be somebody that's going to have it a lot worse than you."
But as fast food connoisseurs know, not all chains are created equal. The fried chicken chain has the slowest average drive-thru experience at 8 minutes and 29 seconds. The fastest, on the other hand, was KFC, which got customers in and out in an average of 5 minutes and 2 seconds. That's according to the 22nd annual Drive-Thru Study from QSR and Intouch Insights, which assessed the 10 top fast food franchises in categories including service, speed and accuracy by analyzing 1,500 orders. In addition to the top chicken slingers, the survey also assessed hundreds of orders from the drive-thru windows of McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, Taco Bell, Dunkin', Arby's, Carl's Jr. and Hardee's restaurants.
In the wake of Hurricane Ian, the living have struggled to account for all the dead. More than half of the victims drowned, the Florida Medical Examiners Commission has reported. A high-water vehicle with responders drives through a flooded neighborhood in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian in North Port, Fla., on Oct. 3. Despite building a career that spans more than 80 films and six Oscar nominations, the 66-year-old actor commented in a recent interview that only a handful of his movies are "pretty good." "No one knows how a movie is made, though everyone thinks they do," he told the magazine. "I've made a ton of movies — and four of them are pretty good, I think — and I'm still amazed at how films come together. Which four films he was referring to remains a mystery, but Hanks did give a clue in an interview last year. He listed 1992's "A League of Their Own", 2000's "Castaway" and 2012's "Cloud Atlas" as the three best experiences he had making movies.
Costco's chief financial officer has suggested that the wholesaler will keep its famous hot-dog-and-soda combo at $1.50 "forever". During the company's fourth-quarter earnings call last week, CFO Richard Galanti was asked whether the retailer would look at increasing the price of its all-beef frank as it looks to deal with tightening margins. Other Costco food court items have increased in price recently, including the popular chicken bake which went up from $2.99 to $3.99 in July. The price of a 20-ounce soda also rose from 59 cents to 69 cents over the summer. Galanti's comments echoed the words of Costco CEO Craig Jelinek, who in July was asked by CNBC's "Squawk on the Street" if he thought the company would raise the price of its signature food court item.
Talking to Diania Merriam, you'd never guess that the semi-retired host of a financial advice podcast ever had problems with money. Merriam spent her 20s in Brooklyn, New York, where she earned $135,000 a year working in the consumer goods industry. She focused on working hard and making money, rather than on spending what she did have responsibly. "At my worst, I was probably spending about $2,000 to $3,000 a month just going out and partying," she tells CNBC Make It. I was partying pretty hard and I just simply was not paying attention to where my money was going."
Ron DeSantis overpowered his own Legislature to pass a map that adds an additional four GOP seats. Nationally, Republicans are likely to net three to four House seats from new maps alone — most of the five seats they need to regain the majority. There are 36 House Democrats not running for re-election, mostly because many opted to retire rather than risk serving in the wilderness of the minority. And there’s state Sen. Jen Kiggans, a nurse practitioner and former Navy pilot challenging Democratic Rep. Elaine Luria in Virginia Beach. MAGA primary takeoversIn a handful of races, Republicans have nominated hardcore pro-Trump candidates who could jeopardize their ability to win swing seats.
Tom Hardy isn't just an action star on the big screen: He can throw down in real life, too. The "Venom" and "Mad Max: Fury Road" star entered the tournament under his real name, Edward Hardy, and according to tournament organizers was a "real pleasure" to have participate. "It was a real pleasure to have him compete at our event." In an interview with local media, one of Hardy's opponents said he was "shell shocked" to come face to face with the Academy Award-nominated actor. Everyone knows who Tom Hardy is, don't they?"
The list of things that interest Elon Musk ranges from space travel to easing Los Angeles' infamous traffic. The 50-year-old entrepreneur recently appeared on the CNBC's "Jay Leno's Garage" to give the former "Tonight Show" host a tour around the SpaceX Starbase facility in Texas. During the tour, Leno asked if SpaceX had a patent on the material used to build its ships. Musk replied that his spacecraft manufacturer "[doesn't] really patent things." "I don't care about patents," Musk told Leno.

Social media creator Brittany Broski has come a long way since her viral "Kombucha Girl" TikTok. Along with her newfound fame came a rush of income in the form of branded content. The deluge of income was something the now-25-year-old Broski found overwhelming at first, she told CNBC Make It at VidCon 2022. "Almost 50% of everything [I earn] goes into savings immediately, I don't touch it," she said. "Because I know that this doesn't last forever."
"If someone's looking at your résumé, they're not looking at it for very long unless it's grabbing their attention, so you want to keep it fresh and relevant," Vega added. Selling a company for billions of dollars didn't immediately upgrade Mark Cuban's life. "When I sold my company for billions of dollars, to go and celebrate, I was on a Southwest flight," Cuban told ABC News earlier this year. In 1999, Cuban and his Broadcast.com co-founders sold their company to Yahoo for $5.7 billion in stock. "That served me a long, long time." Buying a private jet "was my all-time goal," Cuban told Money in 2017.
