Investors and Wall Street analysts may want to take a closer look at stocks that could be winners under a President Kamala Harris after Tuesday night's debate . National polls showed a tight race heading into the debate, but some now believe Harris could get a bump from her performance. "We expect a near-term bounce towards Vice President Harris following the first debate with former President Trump, but the longer-term impact remains unclear," Raymond James Washington analyst Ed Mills said in a note to clients late Tuesday night. Wolfe Research has a similar list of stocks in an anti-Trump trade basket, including health care stocks like Centene and HCA . Of course, it could be difficult for new Democratic policies to become law even with a Harris win in November, depending on how Congressional races shake out.

Read previewFormer President Donald Trump's advisors and allies scripted his playbook to attack Vice President Kamala Harris during the debate. Harris baited Trump, starting by distracting Trump from talking about his favorite issue of immigration by getting him stewing about crowd size. Harris talked about how the Wharton School of Finance, Trump's beloved alma mater, has published research questioning his economic plans. He clearly seemed annoyed at the ABC News debate moderators who repeatedly interrupted the debate to fact-check his false claims. Trump's team echoed those claims online, arguing that the former president had to take on Harris, Muir, and co-moderator Linsey Davis.

In this debate tonight, you’re going to hear from the same old, tired playbook, a bunch of lies, grievances and name-calling. The Biden administration kept some Trump tariffs imposed on China, but Harris opposes Trump’s plan to impose new tariffs on all foreign goods. But he said he would have done things differently than Biden after Trump struck an agreement with the Taliban. One of the debate moderators asked if Trump thinks it’s appropriate to comment on the racial identity of his opponent. - TrumpHarris, on the other hand, said Trump has a history of trying to divide the country around race.

Wall Street relationshipsOne of Vance's earliest interactions with Wall Street came shortly after the November 2016 presidential election, when he headlined a lunch in New York to discuss his newly published memoir. John Underwood, a longtime managing director at Goldman Sachs, encouraged his allies to support and raise money for Vance's Senate campaign, according to people familiar with the matter. He told them the Trump campaign would need "hundreds of millions of dollars" to compete with Vice President Kamala Harris' fundraising surge. The Ohio Republican's opposition to Wall Street was on full display during the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee in July. "Wall Street barons crashed the economy and American builders went out of business," Vance said in his nomination acceptance speech.

Though the debate opened with a discussion about the economy, the conversation quickly devolved into platitudes, boasts, and personal jabs. Industry leaders told Business Insider that they hoped to hear the candidates discuss crypto guidelines, regulation, and key appointments on Tuesday night, but little was said about any of those topics. "What we really need is either a debate or a whole section of a debate devoted to economic issues," Tedeschi said. Tedeschi told Business Insider that we need clarity about Trump's proposed tariffs, which are the "most consequential and radical thing that he's proposed." Chris Larsen, the billionaire co-founder of blockchain payments company Ripple, told Business Insider that Harris was "spectacular."

Trump's team telegraphed that he would repeatedly try to yoke Vice President Kamala Harris to Biden's unpopular record. According to ABC's official transcript, Trump mentioned Biden 14 times by name. But how Trump attacked the president encapsulated his struggles to define Harris since Biden dropped out of the race following his disastrous June debate performance. Trump couldn't even decide how to attack Harris in the context of Biden. Harris felt compelled to remind viewers that the rematch polls showed voters long loathed was in fact not happening.

The rate of weight loss with the experimental pill, called amycretin, appears to be more rapid than what’s seen for other drugs. “It’s roughly double the weight loss rate seen with current GLP-1 agonists and approaching procedural or surgical-level outcomes,” said Dr. Christopher McGowan, a gastroenterologist who runs a weight loss clinic in North Carolina. McGowan said that while the weight loss was significant, he still has concerns about how fast people lost weight. “While losing weight is seemingly the end goal, how that weight is lost matters,” he said. In today’s edition, we preview tonight's showdown between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. Programming note: Stay tuned for a special edition of the From the Politics Desk newsletter tonight, where we will be recapping and analyzing the presidential debate. One of the things I’ll be looking for is which voters each candidate goes out of their way to address directly. Something to watch for right at the beginning of the debate is whether Harris and Trump shake hands. That would boost her to 245 electoral votes and reduce the number of remaining state outcome combinations to 16.

The White House warned Tuesday that debunked claims about Haitian immigrants harming household pets could spill over into anti-immigrant violence, as Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance vowed to keep spreading the rumor. National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said in a briefing with reporters that the false claims about immigrants were a “dangerous” variety of conspiracy theory. So, it needs to stop.”The rumor that Haitian immigrants are abducting and eating pets has spread widely on social media and has focused on Springfield, Ohio, a city with a large population of recent immigrants. The baseless claims have been described as racist because of the implication that Haitian immigrants, most of whom are Black, have barbaric practices or are incapable of living peacefully among white neighbors. Vance posted Tuesday on X that “a child was murdered by a Haitian migrant” and he said other local resources including health care and housing were becoming overwhelmed by demand from new arrivals.

PHILADELPHIA — Former President Donald Trump said Tuesday that his biggest challenge in debating Vice President Kamala Harris is that she has shifted her positions on so many issues. She's changed all of her policies over the years," Trump told NBC News in a phone interview Tuesday morning hours before the debate here. He added, however, that he believes that makes it "easier" to define her in the minds of voters. Three sources who speak to Trump regularly, including one directly involved in the debate prep process, described Trump as either nervous or disengaged with debate preparation in the past few weeks. Trump, too, has frequently shifted his positions over the years, including on issues like abortion, TikTok and even birtherism.
