Celebrities like Taylor Swift are frequently called out for their private jet usage. The average private jet owner is a 50-year-old man working in finance or real estate. Last month, social-media users called out Taylor Swift for her frequent private jet trips (even if some of the flights may not be what they seemed). Stars like Kim Kardashian and Kyle Jenner have also been roasted for years over their private jet usage. Still, despite all the attention and outrage directed at popular female celebrities and their jets, they are not the majority of private jet travelers.

Signage outside the Boeing Co. manufacturing facility in Renton, Washington, US, on Monday, Feb. 5, 2024. The acting head of Europe's aviation regulator said on Wednesday the agency would halt its indirect approval of Boeing's jet production if warranted, but he feels reassured that the plane maker is tackling its latest safety crisis. Asked if EASA would be prepared to stop recognizing U.S. production safety approvals declaring that Boeing jets are built safely, Tytgat said, "If need be, yes." The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, or FAA, said last week an audit of Boeing and supplier Spirit AeroSystems found multiple instances of poor controls. Under a transatlantic pact, the FAA and EASA regulate the factories of their respective plane makers — Boeing and Airbus — and recognize each other's safety approvals.

CNN —For many of the 170 million TikTok users in the United States, Wednesday’s vote in the House of Representatives to effectively ban the social media platform is worrisome. That’s just one reason why it’s laughable to hear China’s foreign ministry claim that the TikTok bill would disrupt market operations and undermine investor confidence. Most of the world’s most popular social media apps, incidentally, are banned in China unless they — or their user data — are locally based and thus easily overseen by the government. She has had multiple meetings with legislators and has spoken with Trump about protecting TikTok, according to the Washington Post. And while surveys indicate that there are plenty of people in just such a situation, there are some inexpensive and safe ways to access emergency funds. putting it on a credit card but paying that bill in full when it comes due). An earlier survey by Bankrate, meanwhile, found that two-thirds of US adults worried they don’t have enough emergency savings to cover them if they lost their primary source of income. Her bills were piling up and she had already accrued high credit card balances from her years in school. To make the next emergency expense less stressful and costly, you can build emergency savings with small amounts consistently over time.

Just like people of faith, not all atheists believe the same things. Because atheists are defined by what they don’t believe, it’s difficult to generalize what they do believe. What do atheists believe? Nearly a third of atheists believe humans have souls or spirits in addition to their physical body. It's hard to talk about atheists as a large group because they're defined by what they don't believe in.

3 theories to explain Trump's TikTok flip-flop
  + stars: | 2024-03-08 | by ( Peter Kafka | ) www.businessinsider.com   time to read: +6 min
For instance: In 2020, when he was president, Trump said he wanted to ban TikTok from the US. While we are here, let's be even-handed, and note that Trump is not the only politician who has inconsistent and contradictory approaches to TikTok. So that's a lot of TikTok Ban news to consume over a short period. But I'm still sticking with the argument I made Thursday:It's easy to vote for a TikTok ban if you don't really think it's going to result in a TikTok ban. But it's a lot harder to actually ban TikTok for real — particularly during a very close presidential campaign, where the risk of blowback from angry users is a real thing.

Ultimately, it’s very high leverage,” Tomasz Piskorski, a finance professor at Columbia Business School, tells me. Even a year after that exact thing happened — Silicon Valley Bank failed after depositor demand eclipsed the value of its assets — regulators haven’t addressed the core leverage issue. The most obvious answer is one the banking industry hates: Increase the amount of money a bank is required to hold in reserve. And their go-to argument against such regulations is that they force banks to curtail loans to customers, hurting folks in the real economy. The upshot: Despite the banking industry’s protest, banks can handle much higher capital requirements (at least, according to Piskorski et al).

My brother and I were born on November 19, 2000, 12 weeks and two days before our due date. I feel guilty that our health was poor, I feel guilty my parents were unable to take us both home at once, and I feel guilty that my parents' only experience with birth was so painful. As I've grown up, I've noticed in an effort to counterbalance this guilt, I've done everything in my power to make my parents proud. I often wonder if there are any other young adults who were born prematurely who feel guilty the same way I do. Maybe this life I've been given is a miracle, but whatever it is, I know I'm grateful.
