Population density and topography obviously have a significant effect on construction costs. “There was also a lack of discussion over the chosen route, which could have followed existing highway corridors.”Rapidly rising construction costs have plagued major projects across the world in recent years. However, their efforts were in vain and only succeeded in significantly driving up construction costs. ‘Mutilated and pointless’Plans have been dropped for a proposed HS2 railway station at Meadowhall in Sheffield.

But whether they are measured by income or educational attainment, President-elect Donald Trump won working-class voters overall while he made strong gains among nonwhite working-class voters like Hispanics and Asian Americans. As recently as 2012, non-college-educated voters were splitting their votes evenly or even slightly in favor of Democrats. But that has left the party’s leaders, donors, operatives and other decision-makers more removed from the lives of low- and middle-income workers, some labor leaders say. But there is widespread frustration that Trump outflanked Democrats to position himself as a champion of working people, as well as dissatisfaction with Democrats not limited to white or male union members. But that policy was not enough to overcome larger societal forces that have led many working-class voters to doubt Democrats’ commitment to their well-being.

President-elect Donald Trump's flurry of announcements regarding Cabinet nominees has left investors with one unexpected headache: a suddenly cloudy picture of who will take the all-important position of Treasury secretary. One somewhat new name to emerge into the Treasury conversation is former Fed governor Kevin Warsh. However, the Wall Street Journal reported Sunday that Warsh also has emerged as potential Treasury contender. Yields took another leg higher on Monday amid the Treasury uncertainty. However, Fundstrat research chief Tom Lee said that once the Treasury nominee issue is settled, that should restore some market confidence.

That's for good reason: An Apple TV set didn't make sense years ago. But in theory, if that goes well, then maybe Apple will be more interested in chasing an Actual TV Set. Apple still sells a dedicated Apple TV box, which you can plug into any TV to transform it into an "Apple TV." AdvertisementYou can debate whether Apple TV+ is actually successful — its movie strategy seems … challenged — but it at least makes sense strategically: Apple TV+ is supposed to generate recurring monthly revenue, and Apple is all about recurring monthly revenue as part of its "services" push. CNN —“Impoundment” is another word that Americans may need to learn in the vernacular of President-elect Donald Trump’s second term. Trump took the time to record a video about impoundment during the Republican primary season, and he promised seizing control over spending from Congress would be a top priority if he was elected. Impoundment occurs when Congress appropriates money that the president then declines to spend. As a result of these standoffs, Congress passed a law to curtail a president’s use of impoundment, particularly for policy reasons. The Impoundment Control Act of 1974 did a lot more than that, however.

CNN —Sitting at your desk all day may put you at greater risk for heart disease –– even if you work out in your spare time, according to new research. This study was particularly helpful in investigating sitting because of its large sample size and the methodology it employed, Diaz said. “We would really recommend that as many people as possible avoid sitting more than 10.6 hours a day,” Ajufo said. The study is also observational, which means that while it can make associations, it can’t prove that the sitting was the cause of the heart disease, she added. And now, scientists hypothesize that Earth may have sported its own ring some 466 million years ago. Scientists previously believed that a large asteroid broke apart within the solar system, creating the meteorites that hit Earth during the Ordovician Period. The space rock is commonly referred to as a “mini-moon” due to it coming within 2.8 million miles (4.5 million kilometers) of the planet. Also, the suggested Earth ring would have “had to be the result of the disruption of a much larger body as the authors indicate in their paper,” he added in an email, so the asteroid, likely about 37 feet (11 meters) in diameter, could not have made a new ring for Earth. However, “this ring formation event we think may have happened only once in the last 500 million years.”

China is installing wind and solar power projects faster than any other country on the planet. It’s not that China is using less energy — it’s using more than ever — but it’s just adding wind and solar power to its grid at an astonishing pace. The country is constructing two-thirds — nearly 339 gigawatts — of the world’s utility-scale solar and wind projects. That is in addition to the 758 gigawatts of wind and solar capacity it has already built, according to the Global Energy Monitor. Wind and solar are now capable of generating 37% of the country’s power, according to Global Energy Monitor, already displacing coal’s dominance.
