Wall Street will endeavor to keep the November momentum going in the final month of 2023, as investors look for a broadening out of the rally that has been dominated this year by a handful of tech names. It also marked the best monthly performance for the S & P 500 and Nasdaq Composite since July 2022. While the S & P 500 cap-weighted index climbed more than 18% this year, the equal-weighted index is up by just over 4%. They highlight the attractive relative valuation of value stocks compared to growth stocks, as well as the significant underweighting of value names in portfolios by traders. And the question is, is it going to be in 2024, is it going to be 2025 or in 2026?

Shares of bitcoin miners - whose profitability improves as bitcoin climbs - including Riot Platforms (RIOT.O), Marathon Digital (MARA.O) and TeraWulf (WULF.O) rose between 1.7% and 4%. "Higher crypto prices should lead to a boost in transaction volume and transaction revenues for Coinbase as we enter 2024," said CFRA Research analyst Michael Elliott. However, Elliott cautioned the crypto exchange faces both legal challenges and new regulations that are likely to take time to play out and will continue to result in volatility for the stock. The ETF approval bets have helped counter latest concerns after Changpeng Zhao, the founder of the world's largest crypto exchange, stepped down and pleaded guilty to breaking U.S. anti-money laundering laws. Among other gainers were U.S. software developer and bitcoin investor Microstrategy (MSTR.O), up nearly 3.5%, and ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO.P), which added 2.1%.

We are closing out an extraordinary month: The S & P 500 is up nearly 9%, its fourth-best month in 12 years. The equal weight S & P 500 is up almost as much as the market-cap weighted S & P 500. Of the 10 major financial firms, only two (Morgan Stanley and JP Morgan) see the S & P 500 lower next year. Wall Street strategists' year-end S & P 500 estimates . That puts the S & P 500 at a very rich multiple of almost 19 times forward earnings (17x is the historic norm).

CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz told CNBC's Jim Cramer that using artificial intelligence is important in fighting increasingly sophisticated ransomware attacks. "Right now, ransomware, on average is, $8.5 million per ransom event, which is double just over the last month." But as much as AI helps outfits like CrowdStrike, cybercriminals are also benefitting from it with "Dark AI" tools like FraudGPT. Kurtz stressed the importance of identity verification when it comes to preventing cybercrime, saying the biggest weakness is "between the keyboard and the chair," or individuals. Kurtz said this has created more business for CrowdStrike.

NXTP/Handout via REUTERS Acquire Licensing RightsMEXICO CITY, Nov 28 (Reuters) - Latin American venture capital firm NXTP has raised $98 million for a fund targeting technology startups largely in Brazil and Mexico, it said on Tuesday. Despite current macroeconomic headwinds, there is an "enormous" opportunity to invest in Latin American startups, said NXTP managing partner Darly Bendo. "We're seeing really low software penetration in Latin America" ranging from small-and-medium-size businesses to large corporations, he said. NXTP is now eyeing opportunities to invest the funds in startups primarily in Brazil, followed by Mexico. "It's an interesting moment to be investing in Latin America," said Busse, who pointed to buy-in from international and institutional investors in the latest fund as proof of increased demand.

Technology stocks have been powering this year's stock market rally despite the threat of elevated interest rates staying higher for longer. For a better illustration of position changes over the course of the quarter, Dick estimated the notional value of the tech buying using "volume-weighted average prices" (VWAP), a common Wall Street yardstick, last quarter. Meta was the stock that saw the strongest buying from professional investors last quarter, Bank of America said. Meanwhile, Activision Blizzard also saw elevated buying from big investors betting that the merger with Microsoft would get regulatory approval and close. Other well-loved tech names that saw increased buying included Uber, Qualcomm , DataDog and Intel .

Traders work on the floor at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in New York City, U.S., November 15, 2023. However, minutes from the latest Fed meeting on Tuesday showing policymakers' cautious approach towards monetary policy weighed on optimism around the prospects of a rate cut early next year. The three headwinds were higher energy prices, higher Treasury yields and a stronger dollar and for the last three weeks, all of those headwinds now become tailwinds," said Hogan. Advancing issues outnumbered decliners by a 2.31-to-1 ratio on the NYSE and by a 2.24-to-1 ratio on the Nasdaq. The S&P index recorded 34 new 52-week highs and one new low, while the Nasdaq recorded 54 new highs and 40 new lows.

A man looks at an electric board displaying the Nikkei stock average outside a brokerage in Tokyo, Japan June 14, 2023. The median forecast for the Nikkei's level in mid-2024 was 35,000, with responses ranging from 31,143 to 39,500, the Reuters poll of 10 stocks strategists taken Nov. 10-20 showed. Japan's equity benchmark started this week by pushing to its highest level since March 1990 at 33,853.46 following a three-week winning streak. That would mean some stagnation for equities in the latter half of next year, with the Nikkei still stuck at 35,000 at year-end, according to the median poll response. "35,000 looks to be about the level where Nikkei gains line up with the timing of the BOJ getting rid of negative interest rate policy," Sycamore said.

Several tailwinds that have not been in place for a decade now make the Brazilian mining giant Vale SA too attractive to ignore, according to Goldman Sachs. Goldman upgraded Vale to buy on Tuesday and raised its stock price target by 60% to $19.50, implying nearly 25% upside from the stock's $15.65 close on Monday. Goldman forecasts iron ore prices of $110 per ton next year and estimates that Vale is internally pricing in a $104 per ton price. "We believe the story is now too attractive to ignore and investors will slowly increase exposure as confidence around iron ore supply/demand balance in 2024 increases," analyst Marcio Farid wrote. The investment bank also expects ongoing policy support in China The key downside risks are weaker-than-expected iron ore prices in 2024 and less policy support in China to back up its ailing property market, according to Goldman.

REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration Acquire Licensing RightsNov 13 (Reuters) - Goldman Sachs expects increased returns on commodities over the next 12 months, buoyed by higher spot prices amid easing monetary policy and recession fears while the asset class also strengthens on hedging against geopolitical supply risks. The bank has forecast returns of 21% on commodities over a 12-month horizon on the oil-heavy S&P GSCI Commodity Index, led by returns of about 31% from energy and 17.8% from industrial metals. Commodity returns will also be bolstered by OPEC-driven declines in oil inventories and demand for so-called green metals, primarily from China, Goldman said. In metals, Goldman forecast a sharp tightening in copper and aluminium stocks into the middle of the decade, driving up prices from the second half of 2024.
