Sept 15 (Reuters) - Shares of Neumora Therapeutics (NMRA.O), which is backed by Amgen (AMGN.O) and Japan's SoftBank (9984.T), fell in their market debut on Friday, giving the company a market capitalization of $2.51 billion. The ongoing surge in listings points to a nascent recovery in the U.S. IPO market amid growing expectations of a pause in interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve. Neumora, which is developing drugs for brain diseases, raised $250 million by selling 14.7 million shares priced at the mid-point of its previously disclosed range. Neumora's debut comes a day after Arm Holdings' strong debut valued the chip designer at more than $60 billion. "Neumora opened up trading slightly below the IPO price, but taken in context with RayzeBio ... market sentiment for established, later-stage biotech IPOs appears strong," Mullin added.

The dollar index , which tracks the currency against six peers including yen, euro and sterling, held firm, though moves were subdued, up 0.13% to 104.73, as traders awaited the U.S. consumer price index (CPI) reading for August. The release comes just a week before Federal Reserve officials gather to decide on interest rate policy. The euro fell 0.2% to $1.0731 as markets raised their bets on further ECB rate hikes despite recent data showing the decline in euro zone business activity accelerated faster than initially thought last month. A source told Reuters that the ECB expects inflation in the 20-nation euro zone to remain above 3% next year, bolstering the case for a 10th consecutive interest rate increase on Thursday. In the broader currency market, the dollar stood firm, though moves were subdued as traders stayed on guard ahead of the closely-watched U.S. inflation reading out later on Wednesday. Wednesday's U.S. consumer price index (CPI) data for August comes just a week before Federal Reserve officials gather to decide on interest rate policy. While the central bank is largely expected to keep rates on hold at next week's meeting, according to CME's FedWatch Tool, the Fed's next move in November remains more uncertain. "In recent months, European inflation, core inflation in particular, has fallen more slowly than expected. "The high inflation rate warrants another rate hike, but the economic indicators ... signal that a recession is imminent."

Maura Healey of Massachusetts, a liberal Democrat, has declared a state of emergency, activated the National Guard and started petitioning the White House for help. The migrants on state-funded buses from Texas are a fraction of the total number arriving in northern cities. Some of those migrants have family in New York, while others are attracted to the city’s history of welcoming immigrants. Still, the rising clamor is creating a rare convergence between the two parties, which for years have fought in seemingly parallel political universes. Endless Republican news conferences at the border and threats to impeach Alejandro Mayorkas, the homeland security secretary, were dismissed as political bluster.

Shares of AMC Entertainment fell sharply in early trading Wednesday after the theater chain said in a filing that it plans to sell up to 40 million new shares to raise cash. AMC was widely expected to sell additional shares after the successful conversion of the preferred APE shares into AMC common stock in August. The theater chain sold millions of shares of common stock in recent years after becoming one of the so-called meme stocks popular with retail traders. The company issued the preferred APE shares as part of a strategy to change its corporate voting structure and get shareholder approval to sell additional common stock. AMC said in the filing Wednesday that it will sell the new shares through "at-the-market" offerings, without a specific time frame.
