During France's presidential elections in 2022, all 12 candidates combined spent just over 83 million euros, or about $88 million, according to the French government. Ron DeSantis denied a report Friday that the state was considering reversing its decision to dissolve Disney's special governing district near Orlando. "We will have an even playing field for businesses in Florida, and the state certainly owes no special favors to one company. Earlier Friday, the Financial Times reported Florida lawmakers considered keeping in place the special governing district that encompasses Disney World as Disney CEO Bob Iger returned to lead the company. But according to the FT report, state lawmakers are now working on a compromise that would allow Disney to keep the special district in place, with a few modifications. “What I can say [is] the state of Florida has been important to us for a long time and we have been very important to the state of Florida,” Iger added.

But just 31% of that group has gotten updated booster shots. Hospital physicians, state public health officials and advocacy groups for older adults pointed to a variety of factors fueling the low booster uptake. They include feelings of fatigue at the pace of Covid shots and a lack of awareness that the new booster could make the difference between a mild case and a hospital visit. Morell said she experienced dizziness, blurry eyesight and heart palpitations after her first Covid booster in November 2021. Wachter said the majority of people who have gotten the new booster get mild Covid, even if they’re older or have risk factors.

Victoria's Secret execs said supply-chain woes meant it couldn't chase trends, adding to the pileup. Brands like Nike, Kohl's, and Ralph Lauren were laser-focused on shaving days and even weeks out of their lead times to be more responsive to consumer preferences. In 2017, Nike was trying to get 60-day lead times down to 10 days. Brands can't chase trends successfully if they lack any semblance of certainty on when goods will arrive — the pandemic certainly stripped that away. Victoria's Secret's chief financial officer, Tim Johnson, said on a Thursday earnings call that the company should regain the supply-chain confidence to chase trends next year.

But agency veterans, outside public health officials, and workplace organization experts said the current workplace structure could be a major barrier to that goal. As of early 2020, much of the workforce of the FDA and the National Institutes of Health was working remotely. Today, the NIH is mostly back in the office, but the FDA said many of its employees continue to work remotely when possible. Many people have fled the U.S. public health workforce in recent years, burned out from the covid-19 response. Benjamin said the CDC would likely have made its pandemic stumbles even if staffers hadn’t been working remotely.

Yale University is being sued over what students say is "systemic discrimination" against students with mental health disabilities. The officials never discussed alternate accommodations with her that would have allowed her to stay at Yale while she sought mental health treatment, the lawsuit says. The advocacy group, which is led by Yale alumni and current students, fights for better mental health accommodations at the school. Its policies are harshest "on students with mental health disabilities from less privileged backgrounds, including students of color, students from poor families or rural areas, and international students," it says. "The need for student mental health and wellness support continues to increase, and Yale remains committed to responding to this need," Peter Salovey said.
