But many dietitians wish the term would go away. "I don't really resonate with the 'superfoods' idea," says Felicia Porrazza, a registered dietitian nutritionist. "One food is not going to be a cure-all. Diana Ushay, registered dietitian at New York-Presbyterian Hospital and Erica Leon Nutrition, agrees. "Also, I don't think you can really call something a superfood if it's not accessible to everyone of all budgets."
Whether or not a potato is a vegetable depends on who you ask. Back in 2011, nutrition experts at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health worked with researchers at Harvard Health Publications to create an eating plan for optimal health. "A potato is not a vegetable from a nutrition point of view," Lilian Cheung, lecturer of nutrition at the Harvard T.H. Harvard's school of public health compares potatoes' effects on blood sugar to that of a can of cola or a handful of jelly beans.
ATHENS, April 7 (Reuters) - Greece's economy will grow by 2.2% in 2023, its central bank chief said on Friday, urging the country to stick to the path of reform and fiscal prudence as it enters a period of increased political uncertainty due to elections. Greece will hold a general election on May 21, weeks before the conservative government's term ends. But the vote is unlikely to produce a clear winner, setting the stage for protracted political manoeuvring and a runoff vote. His latest growth projection upwardly revises an earlier central bank estimate for economic expansion of 1.5% this year from 5.9% 2022, reflecting Greece's fiscal progress. "Since 2023 is a year of national elections, to maintain the climate of confidence in the prospects of the Greek economy, prudence and responsibility is required from political forces, that need to support the country's fiscal goals," he said.
You may have heard of the "Dirty Dozen," but what about the "Clean Fifteen"? Just as fruits and vegetables with the most pesticides are listed, non-organic produce items with significantly less pesticide residues are also ranked by the Environmental Working Group, a nonprofit organization that primarily focuses on making the environment healthier. Each list in EWG's 2023 Shopper's Guide to Pesticides in Produce is based on federal data of over 46,000 samples of 46 fruits and vegetables that were tested for pesticides. Unlike strawberries and spinach, which topped the "Dirty Dozen," avocados and sweet corn landed the top two spots in the "Clean Fifteen." Pineapples and cabbage also made the list.

MELBOURNE, April 4 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Australia’s central bank is getting the builders in – literally and figuratively. The Reserve Bank of Australia’s 1960s Sydney headquarters is currently clad in scaffolding, part of what is supposed to be a two-year, A$200 million-plus ($135 million) renovation. For a central bank, the RBA is particularly quirky. Another major task for the review panel was assessing how the bank combats inflation, which hit 7.8% in the year to December. Treasurer Jim Chalmers on March 31 received the final report on the review of the country’s central bank that he unveiled last July.

We're often told to avoid unhealthy foods like sugary cereals, but there are some fruits and vegetables that should also be met with caution. Certain pesticides have been linked to health issues like birth defects, miscarriages and developmental disabilities in children, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states. The EWG analyzes data collected by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration to rank non-organic produce with the most pesticides every year, and has done so since 2004. For their 2023 Shopper's Guide to Pesticides in Produce, the EWG used data that tested over 46,000 samples of 46 different fruits and vegetables. Blueberries and green beans joined the "Dirty Dozen" this year, while strawberries and spinach reclaimed their No.
If you have a food allergy, you're likely aware of it by now. Many people are allergic to nuts and shellfish, and were either born with the allergy or developed it with age. Despite how careful you might be with the foods you're allergic to, it is possible that you're still consuming foods every day that your body is sensitive to in other ways. On the flip side, "food sensitivities are very different [and] take longer to generate," says Hart. Food sensitivities are also known as food intolerances, and "reactions tend to be long-term and chronic," she adds.
[1/4] Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis leads a cabinet meeting at the Maximos Mansion in Athens, Greece, March 28, 2023. Mitsotakis's New Democracy Party has held a comfortable lead over opposition leftist Syriza since it came to power in 2019, opinion polls show, but a Feb. 28 rail disaster which killed 57 people has stirred public anger and seen that gap narrow. The rail disaster on the Athens-Thessaloniki route, Greece's deadliest on record, sparked mass protests over the safety shortcomings of an underfunded and poorly maintained network, the legacy of a decade-long financial crisis which ended in 2018. Mitsotakis said the 'painful and traumatic' experience of the rail disaster highlighted deficiencies the state still had. "On May 21, Greek citizens will choose if the country will continue to seek winning the bet of reforms".
The Pilates technique has been around since the 1920s, but the workout is having a resurgence thanks to social media — Pilates has 5.3 billion views on TikTok. I went to my first Pilates class ever at The Spring in Tenafly, N.J. I opted for the more challenging class, Sculpt Pilates, which is "designed to work on core muscles, improve posture, mobility and tone your muscles," according to The Spring. "I try to encourage some heart-raising exercises and balance challenges during the class to spice it up," said Pilates instructor Noa Harari who led my class. This class didn't include use of the standard reformer Pilates machines, but floor Pilates was still extremely challenging, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
If you're familiar with the Kardashian brand, it may not come as a surprise that Kourtney Kardashian Barker is wading even deeper into the wellness space. Kardashian Barker, who founded Poosh in 2019, recently launched Lemme, her own brand of vitamins and supplements. The Lemme essentials bundle includes three different kinds of gummies: "Lemme Matcha," for energy, "Lemme Focus," for concentration and "Lemme Chill," to de-stress. Those all seemed intriguing to me, so I purchased a bundle and decided to give the supplements a try. And for a better understanding of the ingredients and the promises Lemme makes — to improve my focus and decrease my stress, for example — I spoke to Jen Scheinman, registered dietitian nutritionist and senior manager of Nutrition Affairs at Timeline Nutrition.

All-year round they offer services like IV drips, cryotherapy, a wave table and access to an infrared sauna. I started with the infrared sauna that aims to reduce inflammation and remove toxins from the body. I'd say given the headache during, and the grogginess that followed, I'd give the wave table a 5/10.

But it's important to know that there is a right and wrong way to nap, especially if you're trying to avoid messing up your sleep schedule. And that's simply too long, says Shelby Harris, licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in behavioral sleep medicine. "If you take an hour-long nap, sometimes you end up waking up feeling more groggy from it because you're getting into deeper stages of sleep," Harris tells CNBC Make It. If you're aiming to feel more energized after napping, the sweet spot is from 20 minutes to a half hour, Harris says. Also, consider the time of day which is extremely important to avoid impacting your sleep in the evening, she adds.

"For memory and mental focus in general, the key is novelty," Farrow, author of " Brainhacker: Master Memory, Focus, Emotions, and More to Unleash the Genius Within ," tells CNBC Make It. In one sitting, Farrow recalled the order of 52 shuffled decks, or 2,704 cards, when he was just 21 years old.
