A utility pole on Friday that had been damaged in the high winds this week in Lahaina, Hawaii. But Hawaiian Electric, the state’s largest utility and the parent company of the power provider on Maui, made wildfire prevention its lowest priority in a state regulatory filing in April. In fact, the utility had no plan to cut power to prevent further ignitions even after flames began consuming the island. The recent devastation on Maui served as a reminder that climate-driven disaster can strike anywhere. “From what we’ve learned, we believe the Lahaina fires could have been prevented had proper safety precautions been taken,” said Gerald Singleton, one lawyer who issued a release about potential lawsuits.

Salesforce promoted that its CDP can process large amounts of customer data in "real-time," meaning in "milliseconds," the lawsuit says. One benefit to real-time data processing that Salesforce advertises, for example, is when a hospital may need the most up-to-date information on a patient regarding urgent healthcare needs. Salesforce unveiled its CDP software, Genie, to the public on September 20, 2022. According to the court documents, Salesforce said it was the "biggest announcement" it had made since the founders started the company.

"In the past markets have tended to underestimate how high rates are raised and underestimate how low rates are cut. The official manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI), which measures activity level in the manufacturing sector, came in at 49.3 in July, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics on Monday. That result was slightly up compared with 49 in June but the index has nonetheless contracted each month since April. The official non-manufacturing PMI, which looks at activities in the services and construction industries, fell to 51.5 from 53.2 in June. “China’s official PMI data provides little encouragement that the economy is turning the corner,” said Robert Carnell, regional head of research for Asia-Pacific at ING Group.

A whopping 91% of workers report that they have faced workplace discrimination. That's according to Monster's recent Workplace Discrimination Poll, which surveyed more than 3,000 employees and highlights the continued prevalence of discrimination at work. Here are her top pieces of advice for all employees as today's workforce continues to grapple with workplace discrimination. Only 44% of workers feel comfortable reporting discriminatory incidents to a company-provided anonymous reporting resource, the Monster data reveals. Additionally, only 21% of employees feel comfortable reporting discriminatory behavior to a manager and 33% of workers feel comfortable reporting to HR.
