Although Penn happened to be in the right (or wrong) place when he was scheduled to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, “Superpower,” which Penn directed with Aaron Kaufman, is the product of seven trips to and from Ukraine. Sean Penn and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in November 2022. His conversations with the Ukrainian people prove equally enlightening, both before the war – when many expressed doubts about Zelensky – and during it. Of course, there are those quick to deride or dismiss actors like Penn stepping off the soundstage and into such roles. Still, if you’ve read this far and might not have clicked on a review about another Ukraine documentary, guess what?

But the debt is on track to top $50 trillion by the end of the decade, even after newly passed spending cuts are taken into account, as interest on the debt mounts and the cost of the nation’s social safety net programs keeps growing. But slowing the growth of the national debt continues to be daunting. Some federal spending programs that passed during the Biden administration are expected to be more costly than previously projected. At the same time, several of President Biden’s attempts to raise more revenue through tax changes have been met with resistance. The policy was projected to raise about $8 billion in additional tax revenue over a decade.

During the first year of NIL, collectives were viewed as "hush-hush" by many in the industry, Opendorse marketplace's Braly Keller previously told Insider. Brandon McCladdie/Happy Valley UnitedHow collectives work with college athletesThe main goal of collectives is to create NIL opportunities for college athletes. About a quarter of Dinkytown Athletes' NIL deals have been business partnerships between Minnesota athletes and companies like Dove, Northwestern Mutual, and PNC Bank. Happy Valley United's NIL work also involves engaging with the local community, including the collective's partner charities, said McCladdie. Happy Valley United is building its brand through media attention and community-based "grassroots" efforts, McCladdie said.

While Deutsche Bank is skeptical on the long-term story for Penn National Gaming , it is bullish on shares in the short-term. Analyst Carlo Santarelli put a catalyst call buy, or short-term buy rating, on the sports betting company, which trades as PENN Entertainment. In August, the company signed a licensing deal with ESPN to rebrand its sportsbook to ESPN BET, slated to launch in November. Through the deal, Penn has the exclusive right to the ESPN Bet trademark in the U.S. for 10 years, with potential to be extended. An Investor Day in December, which is likely to focus on ESPN BET, will also highlight the brand's early traction, he added.

The hottest ticket at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival was not for the new auteur film from Hayao Miyazaki or Ryusuke Hamaguchi, the latest vehicle for Kate Winslet or Sean Penn, or grand prizewinners at Cannes and Venice. No, the most feverishly in-demand screening was for a 39-year-old movie that everyone in its sold-out audience could have watched at home, at the push of a button. “Stop Making Sense,” directed by Jonathan Demme, is widely considered to be one of the finest examples of the form, a joyful documentation (and celebration) of Talking Heads’ 1983 tour supporting their album “Speaking in Tongues.” The Toronto festival screening marked the debut of A24’s new restoration of the film ahead of its theatrical and IMAX rerelease later this month. “This is the greatest concert film ever!” he enthused with the musicians sitting next to him. That reunion was an event in itself, following what the frontman David Byrne recently described, with characteristic understatement, as an “ugly” breakup in 1991.
