First Solar is the largest manufacturer of solar panels in the U.S. and is rated overweight at Wells Fargo. But the domestic manufacturing tax credits that benefit First Solar are likely to survive because they support jobs in GOP congressional districts, according to the bank. Tailwinds from tariffs, however, would be offset by headwinds from IRA repeal if the GOP goes after the manufacturing tax credits. In the universe of publicly-traded solar stocks, however, analysts view First Solar as best positioned to weather the storm. "In our view, higher tariffs on imported solar panels would diminish competition from Chinese manufacturers, pushing demand towards First Solar's U.S.-made products."

Nurphoto | Nurphoto | Getty ImagesDonald Trump's election victory over Vice President Kamala Harris marks a historic return to the White House — an extraordinary political comeback that is likely to have seismic ramifications for the global economy. The former president's litany of campaign pledges include steep tariffs, tax cuts, deregulation and a push to withdraw from key global agreements. Trump's favorite wordTrump has previously described "tariff" as his favorite word, calling it "the most beautiful word in the dictionary." And we don't see Trump's secondary tariff pledge — that baseline tariff, which would hurt European companies — as being all that feasible," Galbraith said. Analysts have warned that Trump's plan to impose universal tariffs are highly likely to raise prices for consumers and slow spending.

His wife, Karen, worked at Quantum Computer Services, which eventually became AOL, Edwards said in an AOL YouTube video in 2012. Taking a quick jog or bike ride instead of sitting all day may reduce blood pressure, research suggests. Gentle exercise routines like walking and tai chi can also reduce stress and lower blood pressure. Using their own model to estimate how different activities impact blood pressure, they concluded that small changes could do a long way. Adding more activity helped to lower blood pressure even more: 10 to 20 minutes of exercise daily reduced blood pressure enough to lower heart disease risk by about 10%, according to the researchers' estimates. President-elect Donald Trump claims he can split the alliance between Russia and China. "The one thing you never want to happen is you never want Russia and China uniting," Trump said. Unlike Trump’s surprise win in 2016, House and Senate GOP leaders have been preparing for months for a possible GOP sweep. With Republicans winning control of the Senate, delivering on Trump’s agenda will come down to whether the GOP retains a majority in the House. Even with unified GOP control, there would be challenges ahead for Republicans. One issue is the political math: House Republicans believe if they do hold onto the majority, it won’t be by much. But it wouldn’t be easy to clear a huge package through a narrowly divided House even if Republicans control all the levers of power.

Four years after losing the presidency, Donald Trump won it back in Tuesday’s election. The Republican nominee, who served from 2017-2021, defeated Vice President Kamala Harris to complete a historic political comeback. “I want to thank the American people for the extraordinary honor of being elected your 47th president and your 45th president,” Trump said at an election-night event in West Palm Beach, Florida. Harris, the nation’s first female vice president, was hoping to shatter a nearly 250-year-old glass ceiling to become the nation’s first female president. “But hear me when I say: The light of America’s promise will always burn bright.”Here are some of the stories that made headlines over the past week, as well as some photos that caught our eye.

Voters in seven out of 10 states approved ballot measures this week to safeguard abortion rights, a hot-button issue that helped drive Americans to the polls. Trump has waffled considerably on his position on abortion, most recently saying he would not support a federal ban and wants to leave the issue up to the states. "The more restrictions we see on abortion over the next four years, the worse health outcomes are going to be. People are suffering and dying unnecessarily," said Katie O'Connor, senior director of federal abortion policy at the National Women's Law Center. President Trump has said he plans to install a blanket tariff of 10% to 20% on all imports, with additional tariffs of 60% to 100% on goods brought in from China. In the September Presidential debate, Trump characterized the plan as a way to extract money from rival nations. Economists, however, tend to agree that such a plan would would have the effect of raising prices on everyday goods. How tariffs workSimply put, a tariff is a tax on imports, though not one paid by the exporting country. Trump has floated the idea that a tariff policy could eventually replace U.S. federal income tax altogether, a convention that the nonpartisan Peterson Institute for International Economics called "literally impossible."

A Donald Trump presidency and Republican-controlled Senate could boost big banks, according to Morgan Stanley analyst Betsy Graseck. The analyst highlighted four big banks investors should look toward: Citigroup, Goldman Sachs , Wells Fargo and Bank of America . The acceleration in capital markets should benefit all the big banks, and Goldman Sachs is set to benefit the most, she noted. Meanwhile, Citigroup is most exposed to tailwinds from higher excess capital levels as a Republican-led government is unlikely to raise current capital requirements. She estimates this will result in an $86 billion jump in current excess capital for the big banks in the firm's coverage.

There should be no enduring mystery about what a Trump presidency means for Ukraine. Trump may appoint a cabinet that mildly adjusts the pace or tone of his instincts, but in the end he wants out. Workers remove debris from an apartment building that was damaged during a Russian drone strike in Kyiv, Ukraine, on October 29, 2024. Furthermore, Trump enters the White House at perhaps the most perilous time for Kyiv since the start of the war. Those tired of the Ukraine war – be they Kyiv ally or frontline soldier – should still not embrace the idea of a Trump-backed deal.

In today’s edition, we explore how Republicans are eyeing maintaining their current House majority and expanding their newfound Senate majority after Donald Trump's victory. But given Trump’s decisive victory over Vice President Kamala Harris, House Republicans are feeling bullish about their chances of preserving their slim majority. The party that will hold the majority in the House of Representatives in January 2025 has yet to be determined. Republican Tim Sheehy defeated Democratic Sen. Jon Tester in Montana, NBC News projected Wednesday morning, giving the GOP 52 Senate seats. And the races in Nevada between Democratic Sen. Jacky Rosen and Republican Sam Brown and in Pennsylvania between Democratic Sen. Bob Casey and GOP challenger Dave McCormick are too close to call.

Harris offered to console Democrats over the loss to former President Donald Trump, acknowledging they were "feeling and experiencing a range of emotions right now." Trump never did when he lost to President Joe Biden and Harris in 2020. After Biden dropped out and endorsed Harris, Democrats reveled in the change, flooding donation channels and crushing fundraising records.
