To me, one unexpected food is at the top of the list of traditional ingredients: honey. On Ikaria, it's considered one of the island's secret ingredients for longevity, and many Ikarians start their day with a spoonful. When I'm in the States, I shop for Greek honey either in local Greek and Middle Eastern food stores or online. I stir it into herbal, green and black teas and use it a lot in smoothies with Greek yogurt. Sometimes I mix a spoonful of Greek honey into a little sparkling water and add some mint or citrus slices for a refreshing homemade soda.

This was my first night in the country, and it was also my very first tasting menu. He said 90% of the restaurant's ingredients are locally sourced, which means the menu changes throughout the year to highlight peak produce. The tasting menu was a great way to solve this dilemma. Plus, a tasting menu took the stress out of ordering. I'll admit that not every course on Intimo's tasting menu catered to my preferences; next time, I'll order the bass in Caribbean curry over the guacho.

New York CNN —Amazon Fresh has joined the growing ranks of retailers that are cutting prices. It is discounting thousands of grocery items in a bid to entice price-conscious shoppers to add a little bit more to their shopping carts. In the game of chicken between stores and shoppers, it’s the stores that finally appear to be yielding. For Prime members, Amazon Fresh is stacking more savings by offering a 10% discount on hundreds of online grocery items. Last week, Walmart (WMT) said it has rolled back prices on nearly 7,000 items in its stores, saying it was seeing deflation on some key grocery items.

Beef tissue from a sick dairy cow has tested positive for the bird flu virus, federal officials said on Friday. The department continued to stress that the commercial food supply remained safe. But the positive test, which came as part of an ongoing federal study of beef safety, raises concerns about whether the virus might make its way into the commercial beef supply, posing a health risk to humans. Just one cow tested positive, the department said. Meat from condemned cows is not allowed in the commercial food supply.

Medium-high heat is the right temperature for chicken on a gas grill. iStockIf you're cranking the heat up too high you might be ruining your dinner. "If you're using a gas grill, medium-high is an ideal temperature — about 350 degrees," she said. If you're using charcoal to cook wings, consider pushing the coals to one side so the chicken cooks on indirect heat. That way you have direct heat on one side for searing and indirect heat on the other for lower and slower cooking.

U.S. President Joe Biden delivers remarks on lowering costs for American families during a visit to Goffstown, New Hampshire, on March 11, 2024. President Joe Biden took a victory lap after Target announced it was lowering prices on groceries and other items — and hopes voters will give him the credit. "President Biden called on grocery chains making record profits to lower prices for consumers — and they're answering the call," the White House wrote in a social media post Monday evening in response to a headline about Target's price cuts. Earlier on Monday, Target announced it would lower prices on roughly 5,000 items, including food items such as bread, fruit, vegetables, milk and meat. "President Biden's top economic priorities are fighting inflation and lowering costs for the American people," White House spokesperson Andrew Bates wrote in a memo Monday.

Senator Robert Menendez’s soon-to-be wife dropped a lot of names during a 2019 meeting she held with a lawyer who later paid off the delinquent mortgage on her Englewood Cliffs, N.J., home, saving it from foreclosure. But Mr. Menendez’s name was not one of them, the lawyer, John Moldovan, testified on Tuesday in the second week of the senator’s federal bribery trial in Manhattan. Mr. Moldovan said he was later instructed by his boss, Wael Hana, the owner of a New Jersey-based halal meat certification company, to pay $23,568.54 to a lender that held the mortgage on the home owned by Nadine Menendez, who married the senator in 2020. Mr. Hana never brought up the senator’s name either, Mr. Moldovan testified. “Never mentioned his name once to me,” Mr. Moldovan said during cross-examination by Mr. Menendez’s lawyer, Avi Weitzman.

During the Iron Age, when people lived in wooden homes heated by fires, buildings often accidentally burned. “This is also an indication of some kind of conflict or some kind of violent aggression,” Olesti Vila said.

Target lowering prices on 5,000 frequently bought items
  + stars: | 2024-05-20 | by ( Rob Wile | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +2 min
Target said Monday it will lower prices on approximately 5,000 frequently bought items as it seeks to stay competitive amid signs consumers are experiencing price fatigue. It had already cut prices on some 1,500 other items. "Our teams work hard to deliver great value every day, and these new lower prices across thousands of items will add up to additional big savings for the millions of consumers that shop Target each week for their everyday needs." As the rate of annual inflation remains stuck above 3% and the Fed's key interest rate remains unchanged, many consumers are starting to pull back on spending and becoming more selective about what they purchase. One of Target's chief competitors, Walmart , recently signaled that even higher-income consumers were turning toward its offerings as "wallets are still stretched."

New research this week is adding fresh detail to one of paleontology’s biggest questions: Did dinosaur blood run hot or cold? Clues from fossilized eggshells and bones have now suggested that some dinosaurs were warm-blooded and others were not. Reinhard Dirscherl/ullstein bild/Getty ImagesMarine scientists have used artificial intelligence to decode previously unknown complexity in the calls of sperm whales. The whales produced a catalog of clicking sounds, which the researchers described as akin to a “phonetic alphabet” for sperm whales. What sperm whales are saying with their clicks remains a mystery to human ears, but understanding the scope of their vocal exchanges is an important step toward linking their calls with specific behavior.

Tire-manufacturing brothers André and Édouard Michelin released the first Michelin Guide in 1900 in an attempt to encourage motorists to try out restaurants around France. Another surprise Michelin award came in April when Disney World's Victoria & Albert's restaurant — which it calls its "culinary crown jewel" — earned a coveted star. Steven Fish (Opinion guest essay, May 7):It used to be that the two parties disparaged each other for three months out of four years during election time. After that, they went back to hammering out helpful policies with civility, despite their different interests and philosophies. Governance worked, and democracy worked. People need to write his sentences down one by one to see the ugliness in each one. His followers love him because they think that his ugly words mean that he cares about them and is fighting for their welfare.
