The Palestinian Red Crescent logistics head in Gaza, Mahmoud Abu al-Atta, said truckloads of aid had been handed to specific agencies including UNICEF and the Qatari Red Crescent. Mohammad Maher, 40, who has fled to the south from Gaza City in the north, said: "We don't want food or money. Palestinians gather around the remains of a mosque destroyed in Israeli strikes, as the conflict between Israel and Palestinian Islamist group Hamas continues, in the northern Gaza Strip October 22, 2023. And the risk of triggering a broader war with Hamas' allies in Lebanon and Syria might also give them pause. More than 1,400 people in Israel have been killed in the war — mostly civilians slain during the initial Hamas attack. Israeli forces killed at least five people early Sunday in the West Bank, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. Sunday’s fatalities brought the death toll in the West Bank to 90 Palestinians since the war broke out on Oct. 7, according to the Health Ministry. In Gaza, the Israeli military said the humanitarian situation was “under control” as aid workers called for the opening of a round-the-clock aid corridor.

"Children ... have started to develop serious trauma symptoms such as convulsions, bed-wetting, fear, aggressive behaviour, nervousness, and not leaving their parents' sides," said Gaza psychiatrist Fadel Abu Heen. More than 4,100 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza so far, including more than 1,500 children, while 13,000 people have been injured according to the Palestinian health ministry. Conditions in makeshift shelters in United Nations schools, where more than 380,000 people are camped out in hope of escaping the bombardment, only compound the problem. They cry all night, they pee themselves without meaning to and I don't have time to clean up after them, one after the other," said Tahreer Tabash, a mother of six children sheltering in a school. Hospitals in the Gaza Strip are nearing collapse under the Israeli blockade that cut power and deliveries of food and other necessities to the territory. Israel's offensive has devastated neighborhoods, shuttered five hospitals, killed thousands and wounded more people than its remaining health facilities can handle. The medical center is still treating hundreds of patients in defiance of an evacuation order the Israeli military gave Friday. A shortage of surgical supplies forced some staff to use sewing needles to stitch wounds, which Abed said can damage tissue. When Israel cut fuel to the territory's sole power plant two weeks ago, Gaza's rumbling generators kicked in to keep life-support equipment running in hospitals.

Canadian-Palestinian Shouq Alnajjar is among the North Americans waiting in the Gaza Strip for a safe passage out. The 27-year-old development worker said she escaped Gaza City after the Israeli army struck less than five meters from her home. She said she is now in Khan Younis, near the Egyptian border, with 200 relatives cramped in three apartments. An airstrike two days ago, 200 meters away, killed 15 and injured 30, Alnajjar said. Egypt and Israel have yet to reach a deal on the evacuation of foreign nationals through the Rafah border crossing in the south of the enclave.

KHAN YOUNIS, Gaza Strip (AP) — Israeli airstrikes pounded locations across the Gaza Strip early Thursday, including parts of the south that Israel had declared safe zones, heightening fears among more than 2 million Palestinians trapped in the territory that nowhere was safe. Hamas officials in Gaza blamed an Israeli airstrike, saying hundreds were killed. Airstrikes also hit three residential towers in al-Zahra, within the area that was told to evacuate, the Interior Ministry in Gaza said. Egypt must still repair the road across the border, which was cratered by Israeli airstrikes. He also announced $100 million in humanitarian aid for Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.

Reuters fact-checking unit has identified numerous cases of social media posts using fake images and information about the Israel-Hamas conflict, and others in which confusion rather than deliberate disinformation appears to have heightened tensions. loading* A video of Russian President Vladimir Putin speaking about Ukraine last year was shared this month with fabricated subtitles warning the U.S. not to interfere in the Israel-Hamas conflict. The sheriff’s office said they were "targeted by the suspect due to them being Muslim and the on-going Middle Eastern conflict involving Hamas and the Israelis". Marc Owen Jones, a disinformation expert and professor at Hamad bin Khalifa University in Qatar, said there was often a rise in disinformation during conflicts. Israel has imposed a siege on Gaza following the shock Oct 7 cross-border Hamas attack. The last functioning desalination plant shut down on Sunday due to lack of fuel, as did the last functioning wastewater treatment plant, the UN reported. Israel turned on one line of water in the south of Gaza for three hours on Monday, but the UN relief agency in Gaza said it served only 14% of the population. Fuel shortages and dangerous airstrikes have also led most water trucks to suspend operations, and bottled water is severely limited and unaffordable, according to the UN. In 2021, about 90% of Gaza’s water came from groundwater wells, according to the Palestinian Water Authority. The remaining 10% of the water supply comes from the desalination plants or is purchased from Israel’s national water company, Mekorot.

Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who heeded the Israeli military’s order to evacuate portions of the Gaza Strip are confronting deadly airstrikes from Israeli warplanes even after they’ve moved. And a grim question hung over the enclave on Tuesday: Was there anywhere safe to go? Last week, after the deadly Oct. 7 cross-border attacks by Hamas, Israel ordered all of Gaza’s northern residents — some 1.1 million people — to abandon their homes ahead of an expected ground invasion of the strip and to head south. Hundreds of thousands obeyed, leaving by car, motorcycle and even on foot. He added that southern Gaza was relatively safer than the north, but not entirely safe.
