CNN —Kia has recalled 427,407 of its Telluride SUVs because they can roll away while in park. Demand for the Telluride has been so high that in some years, Kia couldn’t produce them fast enough. According to the NHTSA report, though, a main component of the SUV’s steering wheel may have been improperly assembled on the recalled vehicles. The report said affected vehicles could make a grinding noise when the damage occurs. All affected Telluride owners should bring their cars to a Kia dealer to get updated electronic parking brake software installed.

Unlike Obama and Clinton before him, Biden is running against a candidate only a few years his junior. It was a twist on how Clinton answered a question about Dole's age during the second presidential debate in 1996. There is not much precedent for the event Biden's campaign is putting on Thursday. Obama, Biden and Clinton will inevitably go down memory lane during a discussion moderated by comedian Stephen Colbert. Another key component was DNA from a living descendant of Samuel Washington. Samuel Washington, George Washington's younger brother, was buried in an unmarked grave at the cemetery at his Harewood estate (an interior view is pictured above) near Charles Town, West Virginia. Fortunately for the authors of the new study, “DNA analysis has come a long way since the early 2000s,” Cavagnino said. Further details came from 95,000 SNPs, an enormous volume of data targeting autosomal DNA (DNA that isn’t attached to sex chromosomes). “The search for Samuel Washington’s grave is no longer underway,” Marshall said.

The rule issued by the Interior Department's Bureau of Land Management will tighten limits on gas flaring on federal lands and require that energy companies improve methods to detect methane leaks that add to planet-warming greenhouse gas pollution. It also regulates smaller wells that are now required to find and plug methane leaks. Venting and flaring activity from oil and gas production on public lands has significantly increased in recent decades. Interior had previously announced a rule to restrict methane emissions under former President Barack Obama. The climate law includes $1.5 billion in grants and other spending to improve monitoring and data collection of methane emissions, intending to find and repair natural gas leaks.

Moderna on Tuesday said a new version of its Covid vaccine triggered a stronger immune response against the virus than its current shot in a late-stage trial. Moderna's current Covid vaccine, known as Spikevax, is its only commercially available product. The biotech company's new shot could offer a longer shelf life and easier storage than its Covid vaccine. The company will accomplish that by shortening the length of the mRNA strand in the vaccine, Moderna previously told CNBC. The company's shot against respiratory syncytial virus is expected to win Food and Drug Administration approval in May.

Without the pier, they said, it was impossible for other components of the bridge to assume the load and keep the bridge standing. The piers on a bridge act as a kind of leg and are what is known as “nonredundant” parts of a bridge’s structure. Yet the collapse in Baltimore on Tuesday might have been avoided, some of the engineers said, if the piers were adequately equipped with blocking devices with a self-explanatory name: fenders. It was not clear whether any such protection built around the bridge’s piers was sufficient to guard against even a glancing hit from a 95,000-gross-ton container vessel. The Maryland Transportation Authority did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the design of the piers, or whether any fenders were installed around them.

The used car market is more than twice the size of the new car market, and EVs are fast becoming a part of it. The battery is a significant component of an EV, because the cost of replacing it can exceed the value of the used car itself. "It's similar to how everyone in the used car ecosystem needs to know the odometer of a used combustion engine car," Case said. As the used EV market grows, this technology, which so far has no U.S. competition, is attractive to investors. An aide said that Ms. Murphy, the wife of Gov. Philip D. Murphy, had held a meeting with county Democratic Party leaders at 2 p.m. on Sunday before making a final decision and notifying her campaign staff members. Ms. Murphy, 58, entered the race in November and was instantly endorsed by a coalition of influential party leaders, including many whose livelihoods were dependent on the governor, who has nearly two years left in his term. Since then, Mr. Kim has successfully yoked Ms. Murphy’s campaign to what he called the same style of “broken politics” that nurtured and protected Mr. Menendez for decades. The first independent poll of the race showed Ms. Murphy trailing Mr. Kim by 12 percentage points.

Read previewA group of AI researchers recently found that for as little as $60, a malicious actor could tamper with the datasets generative AI tools similar to ChatGPT rely on to provide accurate answers. Tramèr and a team of AI researchers then posed the question in a paper published in February on arXiv, a research paper platform hosted by Cornell University: Could someone deliberately "poison" the data an AI model is trained on? The team then monitored how often researchers downloaded from the datasets that contained domains Tramèr and his colleagues owned. as the site is a "very prime component of the training sets" for language models, Tramèr said. AdvertisementTramer also adds that data poisoning isn't even necessary at the moment due to the existing flaws of AI models.

WASHINGTON — Lawmakers early Thursday morning released the text of a $1.2 trillion government funding bill negotiated by the White House and leaders of both parties to avoid a partial government shutdown this weekend. Those federal agencies are scheduled to shut down on Saturday if the funding package is not passed by Friday night. President Joe Biden has said he'll sign the bill, but it's unclear whether Congress has enough time to pass it before the deadline. It is the last remaining funding package that Congress has to pass this fiscal year, which ends after September. After the House passes the bill, the Senate will require unanimous consent to vote quickly.

At the simplest level, labor productivity is how much output (widgets, meals, spreadsheet computation) one person can complete in an hour. Employers were running around with fishnets trying to find people, and workers used their leverage. By contrast, the late 1990s were a period of higher productivity growth and underestimated growth, starting the year at 2% but ending closer to 4%. But it's probably too soon to be thinking about these factors as the main driver of recent productivity growth. The investment implications of this are clear: Stronger productivity growth implies a higher speed limit for the economy.

Overall, actively managed mutual funds and exchange-traded funds fell short of passive funds, with 47% of active strategies surviving and beating their index-following peers, according to Morningstar. However, actively managed funds outperformed in the bond category. About 53% of active bond managers survived and beat the passive average in 2023, up from 30% in 2022, the research firm said in a recent report . Intermediate core bond funds largely invest in investment-grade debt, spanning from government issues to corporates. Core bond funds have also held up in recessions, thanks to their diversification across fixed income and duration.

The Communications Services Select SPDR ETF (XLC) , home of Meta, Alphabet and Disney, is doing one of the following at any given time this year: Breaking out, digesting said breakout and then breaking out again. We'll notice that the monster reversal happened a solid four months before the S & P 500 topped out in early 2022… and we can blame Meta (META) for that. Meta tailwind When META cracked back then, it took XLC with it. However, it, too, has a constructive chart pattern – a potential large base that is almost two years in length. This ETF is VERY illiquid, thus, it's not the best trading vehicle… That said, one particular holding has a similar looking pattern: Disney (DIS) .

Kevin Lamarque | ReutersThe Biden administration announced new automobile emissions standards Wednesday that officials called the most ambitious plan ever to cut planet-warming emissions from passenger vehicles. The rules come as sales of electric vehicles, which are needed to meet the standards, have begun to slow. The agency is finalizing the rule as sales of clean vehicles, including plug-in hybrid and fully electric vehicles, hit record highs last year. At the same time, the Democratic president needs cooperation from the auto industry and political support from auto workers, a key political voting bloc. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Tuesday that White House officials "don't have any concerns" about the final EPA rule.

As the creative force behind the look of the wildly popular 1970s London fashion store Big Biba, Thomas knows a thing or two about engineering excitement. “An act of bravery”Interior designer Thomas had already designed Hulanicki and Fitz-Simon’s home and the third Biba store in 1968 before being approached about the landmark seven-level store. “Fitz offered me two floors (of Big Biba) but I wanted it all,” he recalled of his initial involvement. Storing Renewable Energy, One Balloon at a Time

The key component of this technology is as unlikely as the remote location: carbon dioxide, the chief cause of global warming. Energy Dome, a start-up based in Milan, runs an energy-storage demonstration plant that helps to address a mismatch in the local electricity market. “In Sardinia during the day, everyone goes to the sea,” Claudio Spadacini, chief executive of Energy Dome, said. Energy Dome uses carbon dioxide held in a huge balloon, the “dome” in the company’s name, as a kind of battery. Companies are developing and marketing varied and creative ways to store renewable energy: liquefying carbon dioxide, de-rusting iron, heating towers filled with sand to temperatures almost hot enough to melt aluminum.

Millennial women are taking over the economy

Millennial women are having an outsized impact on the global economy, according to Ned Davis Research. "The rise in millennial female participation should have positive implications for the economy and equities in the long-term," NDR said. "The unemployment rate tends to be lower among people with higher education, which helps explain the greater take-up of women in the workforce. Younger women are more likely to have higher education and thus, be employed productively." Ned Davis Research"The premise is that when the economy has a large proportion of maturing population, workers are more productive, and incomes are higher," Grindal said.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis speaks at a press conference next to prosecutor Nathan Wade after a Grand Jury brought back indictments against former president Donald Trump and his allies in their attempt to overturn the state's 2020 election results, in Atlanta. Elijah Nouvelage/Reuters/FileDuring testimony last month, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis described the end of her relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade, whom she hired to help prosecute the 2020 election interference case against former President Donald Trump. Both Wade and Willis said the relationship ended in summer 2023. Willis implied that the physical component ended earlier in the summer, but that the two had a “tough conversation” that fully ended things afterward. “We would have brutal arguments about the fact that I am your equal,” she told the judge about her conversations with Wade.
