“I don’t remember anything!`” joked Donatella Versace , discussing the 1990s at a preview of her spring runway show in Milan. Of course, she does, which is why next season’s collection was built around the year 1995—a time she described as a turning point for both the house of Versace and for fashion at large, when styles became “more minimalist” and “cleaner.”

Yet global emissions have continued to climb since 2015 when countries agreed to curb warming. Yet global emissions have kept growing since 2015, when nearly 200 countries struck the Paris Agreement aimed at averting the most catastrophic effects of a warming planet. A coalition of 25 state governors announced a major push to reach 20 million deployed heat pumps by 2030, they said in New York City on Thursday. Heat pumps are energy efficient replacements for fossil fuel powered furnaces and air conditioners. Heat pumps can also save consumers money -- around $300 a year in the United States, according to the IEA. In places like Europe, where gas prices are higher, having a heat pump can save customers around $900 a year, the IEA says. Maine, for example, has been remarkably successful in installing heat pumps with its own legislative action.

But to get there, we'll need to spend a lot of money up front and be real about the climate costs we're already paying — even if we don't always notice them. The full costs of extreme weather are often hiddenThe biggest fires, floods, and heat waves tend to draw headlines. But for years, the more subtle effects of extreme weather had gone pretty much unnoticed. This situation could be made worse by a looming financial "mega shock," which could arise as more people wake up to the reality of the climate crisis, Butler said. OTTAWA, Sept 21 (Reuters) - Canada and Japan on Thursday agreed to work more closely together to establishing sustainable and reliable global battery supply chains, the Canadian government said in a statement. The two sides signed a memorandum of cooperation on the supply chains during a visit by Japanese Industry Minister Yasutoshi Nishimura, it said, but gave no details. Canada, home to a large mining sector for minerals such as lithium, nickel and cobalt, wants to woo firms involved in all levels of the electric vehicle (EV) supply chain via a multibillion-dollar green technology. "As worldwide demand shifts increasingly towards cleaner forms of energy, Canada's critical minerals resources and battery supply chains will play a vital role in how we get there," said Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson. MIDDLETOWN, N.J. (AP) — Governments, organizations and businesses have set ambitious goals to combat climate change. Shawn LaTourette, New Jersey's environmental protection commissioner, hesitates to use the word “mandate” in describing the state's plans. Many of the world's countries signed the Paris climate accords, obligating them to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to certain levels. Anjuli Ramos, New Jersey director of the Sierra Club, agreed that meeting climate goals requires urgent action. A document released Tuesday said that by 2050, at least 90% of the state's residential and commercial buildings must be electrified to meet New Jersey's clean energy and climate goals.

U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak speaks to the media during his visit to Shell St Fergus Gas Plant in Peterhead on July 31, 2023 in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. LONDON — U.K.-based industry bodies and automakers on Wednesday criticized British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, amid reports that he is preparing to dilute several key net-zero climate pledges. A press representative for the prime minister's office declined to comment on the BBC report. However, interior minister Suella Braverman on Wednesday insisted in broadcast comments that the prime minister's approach to green policies was "pragmatic." On the long term, weakening the UK climate policies "could hurt economic growth by undermining domestic and overseas investment in a range of sectors that are developing and deploying clean technologies, such as heat pumps and electric vehicles.

LITTLETON, Colorado, Sept 20 (Reuters) - Despite the heat waves, wildfires and floods that have amplified calls to accelerate the global energy transition away from fossil fuels, investors withdrew record funds from the world's largest clean energy investment vehicles so far this year. LOST LIMELIGHTA key driver behind the withdrawals from clean energy investment funds this year has been the relative attractiveness of other sectors, such as artificial intelligence. The clean energy space had outperformed other sectors, including technology, over the past two years, and so was likely due for a bit less investor attention this year. However, an equally important factor behind the outflows in clean energy has been the spate of high profile corporate and national disappointments in critical areas of the clean energy industry. In all, weak spots have emerged on key frontiers of the clean energy industry, which have justified the retreat in investment.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul speaks during a campaign rally with other New York Democrats, in Yonkers, New York, U.S., November 6, 2022. The 340 mile (547 km) transmission line is a proposed underwater and underground high-voltage direct current power transmission line to deliver the power from Quebec, Canada, to Queens, New York City. The converter station for the line will be the first-ever transformation of a fossil fuel site into a grid-scale zero-emission facility in New York City, its backers say. Once the construction is completed, it will convert 1,250 megawatts of energy from direct current to alternating current power that will be fed directly into the state's power grid. The converter station is a step towards New York’s target for 70% of the state’s electricity to come from renewable sources by 2030.

LAUNCESTON, Australia, Sept 19 (Reuters) - China is building two-thirds of the coal-fired electricity generation capacity currently under construction globally, and this may not be as disastrous for the climate as it sounds. The world's largest producer and importer of coal has 136.24 gigawatts (GW) of coal-fired generation under construction, according to data released in July by the Global Energy Monitor. China's under-construction coal generation is about 12% of its existing capacity, and adding more coal-fired power would seem incompatible with the stated goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2060. It makes sense from an economic and geopolitical perspective to power China's vehicle fleet using domestic electricity rather than imported crude oil. While it would obviously be better for the environment for China to stop building coal-fired power plants and instead accelerate the deployment of renewables, there is some logic to the current policy.

How do you deal with visits to “shoeless” homes? It’s often a surprise, so you can’t plan ahead with cute socks or by making sure you’ve recently had a pedicure. I’ve been confronted with this more often in the last few years, and I’m never comfortable removing my shoes. In many cultures, removing your shoes when you enter someone’s house is natural; it’s a sign of respect.

CALGARY, Alberta, Sept 18 (Reuters) - The CEOs of top Saudi Arabian and U.S. oil producers Aramco (2222.SE) and Exxon Mobil (XOM.N) on Monday pushed back against forecasts that oil demand will peak, and said the transition to cleaner energy to fight climate change would require continuing investment in conventional oil and gas. Speaking at the World Petroleum Congress in Calgary, Aramco CEO Amin Nasser said talk of peak oil demand had come up often before. Current demand is around 100 million bpd. The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, which has also dismissed the IEA peak oil estimate, is more upbeat about demand, expecting growth of 2.44 million bpd this year to 102.1 million bpd, compared with the IEA's forecast of 2.2 million bpd of growth. Should you scrape your tongue?

Tongue scrapers are metal or plastic devices used to clean the surface of the tongue. Tongue scraping can help when “you have a lot of bacteria and film on your tongue,” Kosdon said. A few medical studies support the use of tongue scraping for getting rid of tongue bacteria and bad breath, but the studies were mostly small and didn’t show strong results. The few clinical trials available found a slightly greater benefit in using tongue scrapers for tongue cleaning than toothbrushing, but these effects were temporary. Consider starting in the middle rather than trying to stick the tongue scraper all the way to the back of the tongue.
