Voters across the country are set to decide on nearly 150 ballot measures next week that will shape the future of a wide variety of policy issues in their states. (In addition, Louisiana will let voters decide on four constitutional amendments on its Dec. 7 ballot.) “Everyone knows this is a big issue this year — it’s the most we’ve ever seen for reproductive freedom ballot measures in history,” Fields Figueredo said. Voting and electionsThere are 39 ballot measures on the November ballot related to democracy, elections and voting procedures, according to the Ballot Initiative Strategy Center. And voting rights groups have argued it is designed to galvanize conservative turnout and counter enthusiasm for the state’s abortion rights proposal.

China launches new lending tool before year-end loan expiry

A man looks at his smartphone as he walks past the People's Bank of China building on May 20, 2022 in Beijing. Despite taking effect on Monday, the PBOC did not mention the new tool in its open market operations statement. China's central bank launched a new lending tool on Monday to inject more liquidity into the market and support credit flow in the banking system ahead of the expiration of trillions of yuan in loans at the end of the year. Beijing is counting on massive financial stimulus announced in September to kick-start lending and investment, as a sharp property market downturn and frail consumer confidence weigh on investor confidence. "The central bank's choice to launch this new tool at this time is also expected to be a better hedge against the concentrated expiry of medium-term lending facility before the end of the year," the article added.

CNN —Kamala Harris on Tuesday night warned Americans that Donald Trump would open up a floodgate of vengeance against his political rivals, including ordinary Americans, while promising that she’d work for the American people. “On day one, if elected, Donald Trump would walk into that office with an enemies list. “Donald Trump intends to use the United States military against American citizens who simply disagree with him. That’s not the American way,” Harris said. Serving as Biden’s vice president, Harris said, has been an “honor.” But it would not define her administration or her objectives in office.

20 Years of Impossible Choices in ‘Saw’

It can be hard to remember two decades later that the original “Saw” was less interested in gore than morality. In “Saw,” Cary Elwes’s character verbalizes the tension and appeal of the franchise: “He doesn’t want us to cut through our chains. “I’m going to try something else you haven’t seen before.”The classic tropes within “Saw” — serial killers, haunted detectives, creepy puppets — are mashed together and inverted around the undeniable binary of its core choice. In “Cube” (1997), an offbeat Canadian science fiction horror film, prisoners in a mysterious jail travel through rooms rigged with traps. Wan never directed another “Saw” movie, while Whannell contributed to “Saw II” and wrote the screenplay for “Saw III.”In the decades since “Saw” was released, Wan has directed tentpole franchise entries like “Aquaman” (2018) and “Furious 7” (2015).

Microsoft has a very expensive and very public relationship with artificial intelligence startup OpenAI. But one of Microsoft's most successful AI products, GitHub Copilot, is now going beyond OpenAI to give developers more choice in what models they want to use. Microsoft introduced GitHub Copilot in 2021, offering source code suggestions to software developers. Copilot relies on models from OpenAI, which has received billions of dollars in funding from Microsoft and has exploded in popularity since releasing ChatGPT in late 2022. At that point, it felt like "the right time" to add models from Anthropic and Google , Dohmke said.

Ahead of Election Day, Business Insider spoke with voters about how family and reproductive healthcare access will influence their decision. Along the spectrum of support for abortion access, one common thread stood out: The cost of raising a family. In terms of abortion access, Trump has bragged about his role in overturning Roe v. That was not the original intent of Harris’ major address, aides said, but they believe it serves as a timely rebuttal. A permit for the event showed as many as 20,000 people were expected to attend, with spillover onto the National Mall – her first major campaign speech outdoors in Washington. Last week, the leading super PAC supporting Harris’ candidacy raised concerns that the Harris campaign was too closely centering its closing message on calling Trump a fascist. Georgian Dream Party supporters celebrate the exit poll results in Tbilisi on Saturday. The Georgian Dream party clinched nearly 54% of the vote, the commission said, as opposition parties contested the result and vote monitors reported significant violations. Georgian Dream has become increasingly authoritarian over the past year, adopting laws similar to those used by Russia to crack down on speech. Despite that, Georgian Dream has adopted Russia-style laws and many Georgians fear the government is distancing the country from the West and into Moscow’s orbit.

To distinguish this type of turbid Japanese alcohol from that of the ubiquitous and transparent sake, there are two distinct if slightly misleading categories: seishu (清酒), or clear sake, and doburoku (濁酒). However, when making doburoku, they are all simultaneously placed in with the yeast starter, causing the resulting mixture to be comparatively overflowing with sugars. For nearly as long as rice has been cultivated in Japan, doburoku has existed.
