Royal Caribbean's upcoming Icon of the Seas mega ship will have updated crew-only spaces. The Windjammer buffet will have a live cooking station while the game room will have virtual reality games. The most attractive spaces — whether it be water slides or sushi restaurants — aboard cruise ships are typically reserved for guests, not crew. While workers-only spaces on Royal Caribbean's upcoming Icon of the Seas cruise ship still won't have the same amenities guests have, the future floating city's four-deck crew "neighborhood" will at least receive an upgrade. Let's take a closer look at where the 2,350 crew members on the Icon of the Seas will get to spend their leisure time.

House Democrats release wave of bank reform bills
  + stars: | 2023-06-21 | by ( Chelsey Cox | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +7 min
WASHINGTON — House Democrats on Wednesday will release a slate of reform bills in response to the recent bank failures that triggered the worst crisis for the sector since 2008. "The failures of Silicon Valley Bank, Signature Bank, and First Republic Bank make clear that it is past time for legislation aimed at strengthening the safety and soundness of our banking system and enhancing bank executive accountability," she said. President Joe Biden called for these actions shortly after the FDIC took over SVB and Signature Bank in March. The bill would have prevented SVB bank executives from cashing out after repeated warnings by regulators, according to Democrats. Neither Signature Bank nor SVB had a bank holding company before they collapsed.

Airline ranking company Skytrax released its 2023 list of the 20 best airlines in the world. Delta Air Lines is the only US carrier to make Skytrax's top 20 list. Singapore Airlines has been voted 2023's best airline, taking the prestigious title over the previous seven-time winner Qatar Airways. And this year — as is usually the case — the US was a big letdown: only one US carrier made the top 20 list. Here's what travelers believe are the 20 best airlines according to Skytrax's list.

Pig prices soared in Europe last year as output was cut by farms squeezed by high grain and energy costs. The EU pork industry has been buffeted in the past decade by a Russian trade embargo, the westward spread of African swine fever and the COVID-19 pandemic. "We're continuing to add costs to the overall pork production chain," Justin Sherrard, global strategist for animal protein at Rabobank, said. That may mean EU pork exports, whose share of production more than doubled to 21% between 2000 and 2020, have peaked. But an inflationary economy may make consumers less ready to accept rising pork prices and deepen a shift towards chicken as a cheaper, more convenient option.

watch nowInvestors are ignoring a huge subsection of tech because it's considered "taboo" – despite the fact that it is set to be worth $1 trillion by 2027. But just 3.3% of digital health investment in the U.S. went towards women's health between 2011 and 2020, according to digital consultancy Rock Health. Research by Women's Health Access Matters suggests that a $300 million investment into improving female health could generate around $13 billion. It is now one of the largest companies in the FemTech space and has a revenue of $100 million. The issue of not understanding women's health – and the importance of female-specific health solutions – has deeper roots.

PARIS, June 12 (Reuters) - An 11-year-old British girl has been shot dead in the garden of her home in Brittany, western France, following a years-long dispute between neighbours over land, the local prosecutor and a town hall official said. The family were enjoying a warm evening on Saturday in their garden in the small village of Saint Herbot, near Quimper, when a Dutch neighbour shot at them several times, the prosecutor said. Britain's Foreign Office said it was providing consular assistance to a British family following a shooting. Regine Guillot, secretary of the nearest town hall in Plonevez-du-Faou, said the British family had lived in the hamlet for five years and that the Dutch neighbour was a private man. The shooting comes just days after a British toddler was among four children and two adults stabbed in the tranquil town of Annecy in the French Alps.

CNN —An ancient stone site in western France has been removed to make way for a new hardware store, sparking criticism of the local mayor. The mayor of Carnac, Olivier Lepick, insisted he adhered to the law in granting planning permission for the new Mr Bricolage hardware store. “Whether it’s little or not, [the site] has an archaeological value,” Obeltz told CNN affiliate BFMTV. “There were not archaeological remains of sufficient value to reject planning permission,” the mayor said. On Thursday, French far right politician, Marine Le Pen retweeted a link to an article by local French newspaper, Ouest France, calling the removal “deplorable” and remarking that the French state “protects neither our citizens or our heritage.”

Silvana Estrada: “Milagro y Desastre”I always appreciate Jon Pareles keeping an ear out for new artists from a vast variety of cultures and musical traditions. Usually known for her sparse, guitar-driven folk songs, “Milagro y Desastre” — miracle and disaster — is something new for Estrada: a song composed largely with looped, layered fragments of her own voice. (See also: her recent, charming cover of Suzanne Vega’s “Tom’s Diner.”) The cooed, percussive notes that provide the song’s rhythmic backbone remind me a bit of Laurie Anderson’s “O Superman,” but Estrada’s impassioned singing and distinct ear for melody ultimately take “Milagro y Desastre” somewhere unique. Allstate Is No Longer Offering New Policies in California

California property owners hoping to open new insurance policies are no longer able to do so with one of the nation’s largest homeowner insurance companies. Allstate, the state’s fourth-largest property and casualty insurance provider, has stopped selling new home, condominium or commercial insurance policies in California, according to a company statement, first reported by The San Francisco Chronicle. California’s largest homeowner insurance provider, State Farm, made a similar decision last week, pointing to “rapidly growing catastrophe exposure.” Allstate stopped accepting new policies in the state last year, according to the statement. “We paused new homeowners, condo and commercial insurance policies in California last year so we can continue to protect current customers,” Brittany Nash, an Allstate spokeswoman, said in the statement, which was shared with media outlets. “The cost to insure new home customers in California is far higher than the price they would pay for policies due to wildfires, higher costs for repairing homes and higher reinsurance premiums.”

Then, in November 2022, federal prosecutors indicted Onofrio on charges involving three deals he'd arranged in Minnesota the year before. This could disrupt the way software is created, distributed, and used, VCs and startup founders say. This outcome would flip the traditional software industry on its head, calling into question the value of SaaS companies in a world where everyday people can build software themselves. "This is the final chapter of software eating the world, where a bunch of people can create enterprise software within the enterprise." A 'healthy pressure' for traditional SaaS providersTo be sure, the death of the traditional software company still seems a long way off. However, even skeptics admit that the threat of generative AI to traditional SaaS will push established software companies to prove their worth.
