Five secretaries of state on Monday urged Elon Musk to fix his social media platform X's artificial intelligence search assistant after it allegedly shared false information about the 2024 presidential election . Musk, the billionaire CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, had endorsed Republican presidential nominee Trump before Biden quit the race and backed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee. "In all nine states the opposite is true," said the letter, which was first reported by The Washington Post. Musk has previously said that he created and is donating to a political action committee that is supporting Trump and Republicans. That group, America PAC, is being investigated by Benson's office over its efforts to collect voter data in key swing states.

The candidates are generally known by late spring. The fall campaign kicks off on Labor Day, at which point the public’s attention turns to the candidates who have spent months preparing for the next eight weeks. The sudden elevation of Kamala Harris to replace President Biden at the top of the Democratic ticket has transformed what had been a long slog between Mr. Biden and former President Donald J. Trump into a 100-day sprint to Election Day. Voters will begin casting ballots in Pennsylvania, one of the critical battleground states, as soon as mid-September. Analysts from both parties said that timeline is likely to benefit Ms. Harris.

The campaign is tapping state political directors to lead outreach to Republicans in their regions, the source told NBC News. However, the source said the campaign is having a difficult time locking in support from certain state leadership teams to head GOP outreach. As part of Sunday’s announcement, the Harris campaign said it will unveil a digital campaign where Republican Harris supporters make “their case online to fellow Republicans.”During the 2020 election, the Biden-Harris campaign relied on independent, never-Trump groups to court GOP voters. That source believes former Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., will eventually endorse Vice President Kamala Harris, though she was not included in Sunday’s rollout of campaign endorsements. The source also said they suggested that the Harris campaign court the endorsement of former Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., who endorsed President Joe Biden in 2020.

CNN —Vice President Kamala Harris has won enough votes from Democratic delegates to win the party’s nomination for president, Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison announced Friday. Delegates began casting virtual ballots for the nomination Thursday, a process that will continue until Monday evening. “I am honored to be the presumptive Democratic nominee for president of the United States,” said Harris, who joined the virtual event. It’s been clear since shortly after President Joe Biden ended his reelection campaign and endorsed Harris that the vice president would be the only serious candidate for the nomination. Though voting for the Democratic nomination began and will possibly conclude before Harris announces her running mate, party rules don’t require a separate vote to confirm the nominee for vice president.

CNN —Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado says she’s in hiding, fears for her life, and can prove President Nicolas Maduro did not win Sunday’s contentious presidential election. “I am writing this from hiding, fearing for my life, my freedom,” Machado wrote in an opinion editorial published Thursday by The Wall Street Journal. I think it’s totally reasonable for the president to call that out, and that’s all he did,” Vance said. Trump’s remarks are false – Harris, who was born in Oakland, California, and attended the historically Black Howard University in Washington, has never downplayed her racial identity. “And I think it’s because bad guys all over the world recognize Donald Trump’s about to be back in office, so they’re cleaning house. It would not have solved any of the problems that Kamala Harris has caused.”He said the Biden administration should instead take executive action. “They just need to empower Border Patrol to tell people who want to come in illegally, ‘You’re not allowed to do that.’ They just need to use the authority that the border czar, Kamala Harris, has.”

But Republican voters slammed Mr. Richer when he said, correctly, that the election had not been stolen from former President Donald J. Trump. Mr. Heap galvanized that anger and mistrust while not actually declaring whether he believed the 2020 election had been stolen. He said he would restore Republican voters’ confidence in the system. Another conservative Republican challenger, Don Hiatt, had flatly declared that the past two elections in Arizona were stolen. Even with election uncertainty, the market typically moves higher in the 100 days leading up to a presidential vote — but it may be a volatile ride to get there. The so-called fear gauge usually declines in the first 20 trading days of the 100-day runup to the election, but typically works higher in the 45-, 60-, 65- and 70 days before election day. The VIX has been higher 6 of the last 8 election years during the closely-watched, 100-day period. Oil prices usually see upward pressure through October, before feeling some weakness in the final weeks before voters cast ballots. In the run up to October, oil prices typically see more of a boost when a Democrat is the sitting president.

CNN —Venezuelans across the country took to the streets on Monday to protest a disputed election, clashing with police as uncertainty swirls around the results amid allegations of election fraud. So we don’t know what specifically will happen in the next 100 days until Election Day on November 5, or what could come after, when the country’s unique Electoral College process gets going. December: Electoral votes are castAfter questions about the election are settled, states confirm, or ascertain, their statewide results. Kenny Holston/Pool/Getty ImagesThe election authorities of at least 48 states, both Republicans and Democrats, say there are no obstacles that would prevent Vice President Kamala Harris from getting on election ballots if she becomes the official Democratic presidential nominee, as expected. There was not a single state election authority that told CNN Harris would face a ballot issue as the official nominee; election authorities in two states — Florida and Montana — did not respond to requests for comment, but a review of the states’ ballot access rules suggests Harris is not likely to face an issue there either. The 48 states also include the 15 states where former President Donald Trump, the Republicans’ 2024 nominee, had his highest share of the vote in 2020. Since Biden was never the official nominee, states say there’s no problem for HarrisThe election authorities in 48 states and the District of Columbia offered highly similar comments explaining why Harris does not face any hurdles getting on the ballot there. While Trump insists he's sticking with Vance, the senator's poor polling combined with Vice President Kamala Harris' momentum has led some to ask: Could Trump replace Vance? The Democratic and Republican National Committees have separate rules governing how they fill vacancies of presidential or vice presidential nominees. Democrats on Wednesday adopted the rules the party will use to choose their presidential nominee, with voting to officially nominate Kamala Harris likely to begin August 1. The party has said its goal is to nominate its presidential and vice presidential candidates by August 7 to avoid the possibility of litigation over ballot access in Ohio. That could be determined by a candidate either winning enough votes during remote balloting or gathering a sufficient number of signatures. After a presidential candidate is nominated, the rules allow the nominee to name a running mate without the need for additional remote voting. While the ceremonial presidential vote will be conducted as a roll call, the vote for vice president is likely to be a voice vote.

Republican legal experts and think tanks such as the Heritage Foundation are questioning Harris's ability to access the Biden-Harris campaign coffers. Others, including Congressman Steve Scalise, say it's wrong for Harris to assume the top line of the ticket after 14 million state primary voters cast ballots for Biden. There's no general election candidate being replaced, so those rules and regulations about replacement don't don't apply to the situation." AdvertisementNoti of the Campaign Legal Center said a meritless claim like this would be tossed from court immediately, leaving the GOP challengers' lawyers subject to possible sanctions for filing a frivolous suit. Kamala Harris has an opportunity that would not have been available to President Biden if he’d been the Democratic nominee. She can reintroduce herself to voters in ways that address their biggest complaints about Biden’s record and the Democratic Party. She is Biden’s vice president, after all. Yesterday, a Republican political group urged candidates to criticize Harris as a radical, while JD Vance, the Republican vice-presidential nominee, told a rally, “The Biden record is the Kamala Harris record.”Still, Harris is not Biden, and she can subtly distance herself from his record and emphasize what she would do differently. Hubert Humphrey surged in the 1968 race after he belatedly separated himself from Lyndon Johnson’s Vietnam policies.

The Hugo Awards can only be voted on by members of the World Science Fiction Society, who gather at annual conventions commonly known as “Worldcon,” which brings together science fiction enthusiasts from around the globe. A membership for the World Science Fiction Society costs about $58 (£45), meaning the membership fees to cast 377 fraudulent votes would cost about $21,900 (£16,960). The Hugo Awards, established in 1953, has 15 categories, including best novel, best short story and best fanzine. President Joe Biden will end his bid for reelection and has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris. Democrats are in the process of setting up a system to conduct their presidential nomination vote remotely before the party’s convention next month. Under party rules, candidates must meet certain requirements to have their names placed into nomination to be the party’s presidential candidate. There are 3,949 pledged delegates. But now that Biden is no longer a candidate, his delegates are free to vote for whomever they’d like.
