WASHINGTON—House lawmakers plan a wide-ranging look Thursday at former President Donald Trump’s efforts to reverse the 2020 election results, in what could be the final public hearing of the select committee investigating the Capitol riot before the midterm elections. The committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol will focus its hearing, which starts at 1 p.m. EDT, on Mr. Trump’s state of mind, committee aides said. The panel will also examine “ongoing threats to democracy that persist to this day,” a committee aide said.

WASHINGTON—The House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol voted Thursday to issue a subpoena to former President Donald Trump for testimony and documents, a move that marked a significant escalation of the panel’s probe. “We want to hear from him,” Rep. Bennie Thompson (D., Miss. ), chairman of the committee, said in closing remarks, referring to Mr. Trump. “It is our obligation to seek Donald Trump’s testimony…A subpoena to a former president is a serious and extraordinary action.”
WASHINGTON—The House select committee investigating the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, will focus its hearing Thursday on former President Donald Trump’s state of mind as the panel begins to make its closing argument that he orchestrated a wide-ranging attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election, committee aides said. Since its most recent hearing in late July, the panel has received thousands of documents from the Secret Service and interviewed new witnesses, including several members of Mr. Trump’s cabinet. Documentary evidence will include information from hundreds of thousands of pages the Secret Service presented to the committee after it subpoenaed the agency in July, according to committee aides.
Higgins was the executive assistant for "Euphoria" actor Colman Domingo for a year. I would love to work with another Black and queer individual and see what I could learn. He's an influential Black queer man who uses his influence to help other people like him break into the industry. Now, years later, I've started to notice that when I'm working on documents, I'm slowing down to really read them. He was the best boss I've ever hadWhen I was hired in the role, I knew it would only be for a year.
WASHINGTON—As the hearings on the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot wind down and the House select committee investigating the violence and former President Donald Trump’s actions turns toward writing a final report, here is a look at some of the most significant disclosures and allegations. The summer hearings featured testimony from mostly top Republican officials in federal and state governments, and in Mr. Trump’s own administration, who told the committee about a campaign by the former president to pressure them to reverse election results. While some evidence of the efforts to overturn the election was known before the hearings, the testimony included new details about the extent of the effort and how members of his own cabinet believed Mr. Trump had lost the election to Democrat Joe Biden but struggled to convince him.
Mary Fitzgerald has starred on 'Selling Sunset' for 5 seasons. It's definitely a different show than "Selling Sunset," as the agents are younger and they have a lot more drama going on. That being said, being on "Selling Sunset" has been good for our business. Working in the Oppenheim Group office has also changed a lot since "Selling Sunset." Some of the agents just didn't want to be on "Selling Sunset" — they don't want to put their lives out there, which is understandable.
Oil futures have risen over 7% since to five-week highs, as the move was seen as putting a floor under the market. However, the U.S. oil options market skewed toward buying of put options, used to either bet on or protect against downside movement. On Thursday and Friday, volumes in puts totaled 15,579 and 25,771, respectively, while volumes in calls totaled 16,087 and 42,291, CME Group data showed. In the futures market, crude spreads widened on Friday, with near-term contracts rising at a faster rate than later-dated contracts.
Minneapolis CNN Business —The fever hasn’t broken yet for America’s employment market, but the temperature is coming down. That, coupled with job openings showing some sharp declines, points to a labor market slowdown — an outcome the Federal Reserve is seeking as it battles decades-high inflation. “The job market is slowing gracefully, moderating jobs and wage growth smoothly as the Federal Reserve searches for signs of cooling inflation,” Daniel Zhao, senior economist for Glassdoor, said in a statement. What could, however, move the needle will be the findings from the inflation data due next week, he said. Job openings outpace job seekers on a 1.7 to 1 ratio, the BLS’ Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey for August showed.
"I want to save Social Security, Medicare and Veterans benefits." A spokeswoman for Scott pointed to a recent interview where he said his plan would help make sure people get their Social Security benefits. Specific plans from both parties are needed to secure the future of both Social Security and Medicare, she said. Due to high inflation, estimates show the Social Security cost-of-living adjustment is poised to be the highest in decades, according to The Senior Citizens League. One more month of consumer price index data will come in before the official bump for next year is announced by the Social Security Administration.

In their new book, journalists, Peter Baker and Susan Glasser go behind the scenes of the Trump White House. As the 2020 election results came in, Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump had already moved on, the book says. They had their own future to think about, one that would no longer involve the White House. While still in the White House, he began writing a memoir focused on Middle East peacemaking. "We either have a vote WE control and WEwin OR it gets kicked to Congress 6 January 2021," Don Jr. wrote.
The House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol is set to reconvene its next live hearing Wednesday, putting the finishing touches on its case that former President Donald Trump was at the center of a plan to overturn the 2020 presidential election. Since its last hearing in late July, the panel has continued to interview witnesses, collect documents and seek out new evidence about the months-long effort to overturn the election. Committee members said that as the eight summer hearings were wrapping up, new witnesses were coming forward to provide information.
This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Jean Franzblau, an intimacy coordinator based in Los Angeles, CA. My first intimacy coordinator job was 'Blonde,' Netflix's new NC-17 filmThe original intimacy coordinator who worked on "Blonde," the new Marilyn Monroe biopic, recommended that I replace her when she had to leave the production. Luckily, it worked out well — and once recommended, getting my first intimacy coordinator job on a big production was smooth. Just like any production job, work can be sporadicSometimes I'm working as an intimacy coordinator, and sometimes I'm not. The best way to get started as an intimacy coordinator is to start with student films and short films.
The House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol plans a ninth hearing Wednesday after holding a series of eight public hearings over the summer. The hearings aim to show that former President Donald Trump set the stage for his supporters’ riot by making baseless allegations of election fraud and trying to pressure federal and state officials to stop President Biden’s win. Mr. Trump has said he did nothing wrong and continues to make his unsubstantiated claim that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him.

But gold prices haven't surged. "Investors don't have much appetite to hold gold in the current environment," Warren Patterson, head of commodities strategy at ING, told me. Breaking it down: Gold prices skyrocketed in early March as fears about the consequences of Russia's invasion of Ukraine mounted. A stronger currency makes it more expensive for foreign investors to buy in, and can reduce demand, pushing down prices. In the meantime, Costco plans to leverage its size to stay competitive on prices and keep growing sales.

The Human Rights Campaign announced Tuesday that Kelley Robinson will serve as its ninth president — the first Black queer woman to lead the nation’s largest LGBTQ advocacy organization. Robinson will step into the role a year after HRC fired its previous president, Alphonso David, who was the organization's first Black president. David allegedly consulted with the governor's office in December 2020, while president of HRC, the report said. David maintained that he wasn’t aware of allegations of sexual harassment against the governor during his time as chief counsel. In February, David sued the organization in federal court, alleging that he was underpaid and then terminated “because he is Black."
WASHINGTON—The House passed legislation Wednesday that would overhaul the way Congress counts and ratifies presidential elector votes, responding to efforts by former President Donald Trump and his supporters to try to overturn the 2020 election results. The 229-203 vote in favor of the Presidential Election Reform Act in the House will set up a showdown with the Senate, where a bipartisan group of lawmakers has proposed a similar bill to overhaul the 1887 Electoral Count Act, albeit with some key differences. The Senate legislation already has public support from 10 Republican senators, enough to overcome the chamber’s 60-vote filibuster threshold, if all 50 members of the Democratic caucus vote yes.
