Survivors of the October 7 terror attack and the families of hostages were furious at the uncompromising repudiation of a deal that – ultimately – could have resulted in the return of all the remaining hostages in Gaza. Moshe’s words carried power – she was kidnapped by Hamas from Kibbutz Nir Oz and held hostage in Gaza for seven weeks. The families of the hostages held in Gaza have emerged as a leading voice and they attract huge support among Israelis. Protesters demand a hostage deal amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, in a demonstration in Tel Aviv, Israel, on February 1, 2024. These anti-government protests are still strictly separate from the hostage families’ events, which tend to take place just down the road at what has become known as the Hostage Plaza.

Only 4.4% of Georgia workers are union members, the eighth-lowest rate among states. The National Labor Relations Board, the federal agency overseeing union affairs, did not immediately respond Thursday to an email seeking comment. Democrats, though, say the bill is really about making it harder for unions to organize and for companies to accept them. Sen Mike Hodges, a Brunswick Republican who is sponsoring the bill, denied that it would violate federal law. But Democrats said they think the bill is an attempt to attack federal labor law.

Some days, more than 1,000 arrive in the boulder-strewn mountains near San Diego, alone. These encampments would likely vanish under a Senate bill that would make sweeping changes to immigration laws, including allowing a border emergency authority that would restrict asylum when arrests for illegal crossings hit certain thresholds. That's because a subsidy that helps people with limited resources afford internet access is set to expire this spring. If the program expires, participating families, including nearly 900,000 in North Carolina, will either lose internet access or have to pay more to stay connected. Most of that money will be awarded to internet providers to build internet infrastructure in areas that need it most. Several states incorporated the ACP subsidies into those draft plans in ways that would lower the cost for internet access to zero for some customers. LAS VEGAS (AP) — A union representing hospitality workers says it has reached a tentative agreement with six more hotel-casinos in downtown Las Vegas and called off a strike deadline for another. The agreements averted a Monday morning walkout threat at several near-Strip and downtown properties as the city kicks off Super Bowl week. The culinary and an associated bartenders union are being given more time to reach an agreement with Virgin Las Vegas, an off-Strip resort. The union then turned its attention to winning the same contract terms for workers at other hotel-casinos in Las Vegas. ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — A former Atlantic City councilman who went to prison for bribery and a sex blackmail case is facing charges again. Craig Callaway, 64, is a sought-after political organizer and operative in and around Atlantic City, known for his ability to deliver large blocks of absentee ballots to election officials that often sway the outcome of elections. But he was arrested Thursday and charged with election fraud involving the misuse of absentee ballots — something of which his political foes had long accused him. Instead, Robinson went to the authorities, who filed charges that led to a three-year state prison term for Callaway. The election fraud charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
