Salesforce shares jumped more than 4% in extended trading Wednesday after the enterprise software giant beat sales and earnings expectations in the second quarter. Salesforce Why we own it : Salesforce is a leading enterprise software tool for companies across all industries, helping employees to better communicate with colleagues internally and with their customers. Salesforce's new AI tools — which it is calling autonomous AI sales agents — may be the company's answer to this negative thesis. The next task for Salesforce is proving these new AI products will become a material driver of revenue growth. For the third quarter, Salesforce forecasts revenues of $9.31 billion to $9.36 billion, which is below the $9.4 billion estimate.

Jim doesn't see a need to step in first thing Thursday morning and buy the dip. Through its Nvidia AI Enterprise service, Nvidia is in the process of building out a potentially massive software business. Quarterly commentary During Nvidia's fiscal second quarter, better-than-expected sales were driven by strength in all key segments, including a Data Center segment revenue record. Regarding China, Kress said, "Data Center revenue in China grew sequentially in Q2 and is a significant contributor to our Data Center revenue. Guidance Taking a closer look at guidance, Nvidia's fiscal third quarter may not have beaten the Street's estimates by the magnitude some were hoping for, but it's far from disappointing.

AdvertisementMissy Scalise has begun using AI to cut down on the amount of work she has to do after hours. In 2023, the World Economic Forum reported that employers expected 44% of workers' skills to be "disrupted" within five years. Another challenge with inserting AI into an organization is that it's often difficult to tell which skills workers possess and where they might need training. Charlotte Relyea, a senior partner at McKinsey & Co., believes that leaders need to plan now so they can better forecast the abilities workers will need. Leaders need to think about this as a transformation — what she described as "painting the picture of the future."

Google said it will soon allow users to create images of people using its Gemini artificial intelligence tool, after pulling the AI image generation option in February. "We've worked to make technical improvements to the product, as well as improved evaluation sets, red-teaming exercises and clear product principles," Citron wrote. Google paused its image generation feature earlier this year after saying it was offering "inaccuracies" in historical pictures. "Of course, as with any generative AI tool, not every image Gemini creates will be perfect, but we'll continue to listen to feedback from early users as we keep improving," Citron wrote. "We'll gradually roll this out, aiming to bring it to more users and languages soon."

Lam aims to change that with NEX, which develops AI image tools for entertainment, gaming, and marketing. Founded in late 2023, the company recently raised a $3.5 million seed round led by Foundation Capital, with participation from Point72 Ventures. NEX does this by enabling users to generate images inspired by other images, not just text inputs, in a "real-time canvas." The startup's tech can also tailor the AI models based on a customer's existing data, a process called finetuning, or even develop models from scratch. Lam's vision for NEX is to be the "visual media tool for the AI era."

Other talking points from the documents include OpenAI's lack of access to third-party AI models and weak enterprise-level contracts. "For generative AI workloads, AWS will compete most often w/ Microsoft's Azure OpenAI Service, OpenAI (directly), and Google Cloud's Generative AI on Vertex AI," one of the documents said. Instead, Amazon has prioritized selling AI tools like Bedrock, which gives customers access to third-party AI models. The sales guidelines also outline how AWS sales reps should respond to customers' questions about Microsoft and Google. In situations where Microsoft pitches its AI-powered analytics software, Fabric, to customers, AWS salespeople are instructed to say, "Microsoft Fabric is a new (unproven) offering."

At least, that's what data security experts like Matt Radolec, vice president of incident response at data security company Varonis, say. "Copilots have pass-through permissions," Radolec said. There's also value in proceeding at a slow and steady pace with gen AI processes. Instead, Ensono is developing its own tool so the company can better enable and control its data security. As part of the bid, Bronfman would acquire a minority stake in Paramount. However, after placing the bid, Bronfman raised more funds to support a higher bid, said the person, who asked to remain anonymous to speak about specifics of the offer. On Wednesday, Bronfman upped the bid and submitted a revised offer of $6 billion, the person said. The agreement included a 45-day "go shop" period during which Paramount could solicit other offers. The Wall Street bank surveyed its fundamental equity team of 130 analysts, covering approximately 3,400 companies, to identify the companies that stand to gain from AI across various sectors. The bank believes the development of AI is the third major tech cycle over the past five decades. The earlier cycles are the growth of the internet and mobile phone devices.
