CNN —Louisiana lawmakers have sent a bill to the state’s governor that would require online platforms to obtain a parent’s consent before creating an account for users under 18, the latest in a raft of legislation restricting digital services for kids and teens. The legislation, known as HB61, covers a broad range of companies and content, including video games, social networks, and other services that allow users to create accounts and exchange text, photos or videos online. Under the bill, online platforms could use third-party services to obtain a parent’s consent. The bill’s passage comes after states including Utah and Arkansas signed similar bills into law this year requiring parental consent for minors who wish to access social media. US lawmakers have spent years calling for new safeguards to address concerns about social platforms leading younger users down harmful rabbit holes, enabling new forms of bullying and harassment and adding to what’s been described as a teen mental health crisis.

LONDON, June 8 (Reuters) - JPMorgan (JPM.N) and Morgan Stanley (MS.N) are reviewing their prime broking relationships with Odey Asset Management after allegations of sexual misconduct and bullying by Crispin Odey reported by the Financial Times and Tortoise Media on Thursday, sources familiar with the matter said. A source familiar with the matter told Reuters JPMorgan was also reviewing its relationship with Odey Asset Management. A source at one of the banks said the allegations of misconduct at Odey Asset Management conflicted with their standards. Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan declined to comment. Odey Asset Management did not respond immediately to a phone call and email requesting comment.

OTTAWA, June 7 (Reuters) - Alphabet's Google (GOOGL.O) and Meta Platforms (META.O) are using "bullying tactics" against a Canadian push aimed at ensuring financial support for news publishers, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Wednesday. The proposed legislation is designed to compel internet giants like Google and Meta's Facebook to negotiate commercial deals and pay publishers for their content. The U.S. firms say proposals in the bill, dubbed the "Online News Act," are unsustainable for their businesses. The legislation passed Canada's House of Commons in December and is in the unelected upper chamber of the parliament, which rarely blocks legislation cleared by the lower house. "The various internet giants like Meta are posting every year record profits while at the same time local independent news is struggling across this country," Trudeau said.
