But it's just as important to look after your mental health as it is to take care of your baby, says Dr. Navya Mysore, a primary care physician and the national program director for sexual and reproductive health at One Medical. "After you deliver, there's a lot of hormonal changes that are happening," Mysore tells CNBC Make It. If symptoms continue or worsen beyond the four- to six-week mark, it can indicate that a parent is struggling with postpartum depression, Mysore says. "Sometimes it can just take a little more time to bond with your baby," Mysore says.) Thankfully, there are certain steps you can take to prioritize your mental health after your baby is born.

There's a reason they call breakfast the most important meal of the day. What you eat for breakfast can make or break how successful your day is going to be, especially if you're reaching for foods that lower your energy. It's important to know that "there is no one size fits all [breakfast]," says Maya Feller, a registered dietitian. But there is new research that shows forgiveness may just free up more space in your life for happiness. Everett Worthington has decades of experience studying forgiveness as a clinical psychologist. He is the co-author of a recent study that shows forgiving others may lead to improved mental health and well-being. "The main way that forgiveness affects mental health is by lowering rumination," which is playing things over and over again in our minds, he adds. "As we forgive, we get a certain amount of closure on that incident, and that closure dampens down that rumination," he says.
And start-ups like Tally Health are promising to provide that insight into how we age and, potentially, how to get ahead of it. Tally Health created and administers a test that collects DNA samples from a cheek swab, and calculates what the company calls a "biological age." "We call it the credit score for the body that measures all aspects of your health," Dr. David Sinclair, a Harvard scientist and longevity expert, tells CNBC Make It. Sinclair co-founded Tally Health and, as its scientific advisor, had a hand in creating its test which partly relies on his years of research in the field of longevity. I was offered the opportunity to take the "TallyAge Test" and despite my generally healthy lifestyle, I was still a bit nervous to learn my biological age.
The writer for it all? Mo Willems, who, it turns out, really loves opera! “The commonalities between what my industry, or my main industry, does and what opera does are incredible,” said Willems, a six-time Emmy Award-winning former Sesame Street writer, who has earned three Caldecott Honors for picture books and reigns as a near-deity in children’s literature. “It’s big emotions,” he added during an interview at the Kennedy Center before the premiere. That three-year position coincided with the pandemic, to which he responded with invaluable “Lunch Doodles” videos, but it still let him explore a range of genres, including symphonic music, which he said “has always been important to me.”

But although we're likely to live to an older age than our grandparents' generation, that doesn't mean we're any healthier than they are. "It's between four and eight years that we live longer than our grandparents," on average, says Greg Macpherson, cellular health expert and founder of SRW Laboratories, a biotechnology company. "People are generally living longer, and we're generally losing less people earlier. "We're living longer, but we're kind of grinding our way through the last maybe 25% of our life with some form of health condition," Macpherson says. About 65% of people over the age of 60 are living with multiple health issues, he adds.

Here are a few ways Messina says spring cleaning may improve how you feel and what you're able to get done at home. Spring cleaning is a centuries-old concept from multiple cultural and religious practices — and the act can mean more for you than just a decluttered and more organized home. Spring cleaning is also exercise, and though it isn't equivalent in intensity to the kinds of exercises you should aim for every day, "it includes physical movement," he notes. And then you're going to feel the effect of that; that could be low self-esteem [due to] poor job performance." On Saturday, he told President Katerina Sakellaropoulou that parliament will be dissolved on April 23. "I hope we have a calm and fruitful pre-election period, for the good of the country," Sakellaropoulou told the conservative premier, kicking off a four-week political campaigning period.
To help you get rid of the "gym jitters," we asked Lucy Wyndham-Read , the "Fitness Influencer of the Year" for 2021, about the myths about exercise that circulate and often deter people from working out. April 18 is National Exercise Day , which was established in 2020 to encourage people to engage in physical activity — it's the perfect day to get a quick workout in. "The reality is, actually, most people are in the gym, or work out, to focus on their wellbeing," she adds. This myth can become an excuse that gets in the way of you going to the gym, Wyndham-Read adds. "Home fitness has proved to be one of the most effective ways to really get people amazing results," she notes.
You've likely used shampoo or sunscreen days — or even months — beyond their expiration dates and that is probably OK. Many people believe that eating local honey can lessen or even cure your seasonal allergies. This is commonly referred to as "local honey," which Cote collects across the five boroughs in New York City. And yet, the myth of local honey persists. Can eating local honey cure seasonal allergies? The pool of studies that examine the effects of local honey on allergy symptoms is extremely small, he adds, which makes it difficult to come to a clear conclusion.
Seasonal allergies can be tough to deal with, but you can typically soothe symptoms like a runny nose, itchy throat and head congestion with over-the-counter medications, or take steps like optimizing your bedroom which can help prevent allergies from negatively impacting your sleep. Still, your location may play more of a role in how severe of an allergy season you experience than you realize. In fact, there are some cities that are more challenging to live in for people with pollen allergies. The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America sifted through data of "the 100-most populated U.S. Metropolitan areas" to determine the "Allergy Capitals" of America in 2023. Some factors the organization considered for the ranking include:Tree, grass and weed pollen scoresAvailability of board-certified allergists and immunologistsHow often over-the-counter allergy medicine is usedHere's a closer look at the top 10 densely-populated cities where it may be harder for residents with allergies to avoid flare-ups.
The most common symptoms of seasonal allergies include itchy eyes, a runny nose, sneezing and congestion, all of which can be easily resolved with remedies like neti pots and over-the-counter allergy medication. But many people might not even realize the effects that seasonal allergies can have on sleep. Congestion can lead to snoring which typically worsens sleep apnea for those who suffer from the disorder, she adds. Seasonal allergies can also cause other discomforts that keep you up all night, like headaches. To start, you can optimize your bedroom to avoid triggering your allergy symptoms, which will ultimately help improve your sleep.
It's officially allergy season, and many people are struggling with the sniffles, congestion, itchy eyes and more. That means millions of people are searching for remedies for their uncomfortable symptoms, and often they land on quick fixes like neti pots and other saline rinses that help clear out their sinuses. The unsafe use of nasal saline rinses have led to complications for some people, including death. This February, a Florida man died from a brain-eating amoeba after doing nasal saline irrigation, which is an extremely rare instance.
