It's shifting dollars away from its flagship brand, Boston Lager, to the non-alcoholic category, she added. Alcohol drinkers are opting for non-alcoholic beers on more occasions, such as at lunchtime or as a "chaser" between alcoholic drinks on a night out, experts said. Better margins, newer opportunitiesWhile non-alcoholic beers still only represent a small proportion of the total amount of beer sold, brewers can sell non-alcoholic beers at a higher margin, because they are often priced at a premium and avoid excise duty. The deal, announced earlier this year and which makes AB InBev a Worldwide Olympic Partner through to Los Angeles in 2028, marks the first time a beer brand has sponsored the Games. "This is an opportunity to strengthen beer as a category and as the category of moderation," said AB InBev CMO Marcel Marcondes.

THE SECRET HISTORY OF BIGFOOT: Field Notes on a North American Monster, by John O’ConnorWhy do Americans need Bigfoot? This question propels John O’Connor’s “Secret History of Bigfoot,” a farrago of participatory journalism, anthropological speculation, pop-culture parentheticals and broadsides against Donald Trump that often seems stuck together by sap and tar. Officially O’Connor was seeking Bigfoot — or at least the enduring wellspring of faith in Bigfoot, which struck him as just as elusive. Like a forty-niner cutting ties with the uptight Victorians, O’Connor sought instead “wild places” where men are men, go unmasked and hope for moral redemption by Sasquatch. A stay-at-home dad in Cambridge, Mass., he became, during lockdown, a literal stay-at-home dad.

Increasingly, people are interested in pursuing how their genes may be affecting their health, nutrition, fitness potential and risk of injury. The global market for these direct-to-consumer genetic tests is projected to soar in the next several years, skyrocketing from $1.9 billion in 2023 to $8.8 billion by 2030, according to a market analysis report by Grand View Research. Still, some are intriguedDespite these issues, many remain intrigued by DNA fitness tests. Balance Gym recently partnered with FitnessGenes, a UK-based company that sells genetic tests, to help its clients achieve better results from their workouts. Time, and further scientific advances, may shed more light on whether DNA fitness tests are, or can be, useful.

For decades, managers of electric grids feared that surging energy demand on hot summer days would force blackouts. Largely because of growing demand from homes and businesses, and supply constraints due to aging utility equipment, many grids are under greater strain in winter. Just 10 years ago, winter electricity use ran about 11 percent less than in summer, according to the group. And by 2050, winter demand could surpass electricity use in the summer. “We’re seeing both summer and winter peaks growing, but we’re seeing winter peaks growing faster,” said Jim Robb, chief executive of the reliability corporation.

For almost two years, many economists and observers have figured something has to give in the labor market. And then the labor market has turned around and said, "Ha, actually, no." If you're trying to upgrade your job, you're trying to get a better job, the time to do that was probably a year ago. If you have a job, you're at a relatively low risk of losing that job — despite the headlines about layoffs at some big-name companies. Even Whistler Blackcomb ski resort was only a two-hour drive from home — where the diverse terrain and charming village are world-famous and Winter Olympics-worthy for good reason. The ride in a private taxi to Niseko, Hokkaido took around two hours. Here are five reasons Niseko offered a better experience than Whistler, but why I would still choose the North American ski resort over the Japanese ski destination. Even if the snow in Whistler isn't as consistent, it surpasses the Japanese ski town for many reasons. We will probably make our way back to a different ski resort in Japan while living in Asia.

And the company predicts a small improvement this year even as it plans for lower vehicle selling prices due to increased discounts. Cost cutting by simplifying engineering and manufacturing saved GM about $1 billion last year, Jacobson said, with another $1 billion expected this year. The company expects EV losses to ease this year and hit low-to-mid single digit profit margins in 2025 as it adds more EVs to its lineup. It also took a $1.7 billion accounting charge on the valuation of its electric vehicle inventory that is going to bring losses, Jacobson said. This year, the company expects $1.3 billion in higher labor costs and is prepared for about a $3 billion hit due to lower prices, Jacobson said.

DETROIT – General Motors is changing its product lineup strategy to include plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, CEO Mary Barra told investors Tuesday. More companies are reconsidering the viability of hybrid vehicles to appease consumer demand and avoid costly penalties related to those federal fuel economy and emissions standards. Most of GM's main competitors offer traditional hybrids as well as plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. The only hybrid GM currently offers in the U.S. is a traditional hybrid version of the Chevrolet Corvette. GM led the way for plug-in electric vehicles with the Chevrolet Volt during the 2010s.

GENEVA (AP) — Shares of Holcim Ltd. jumped Monday after the Swiss-based cement and building materials company announced plans to spin off its North American unit and list its shares in the U.S.Sunday's announcement of the listing and spinoff comes 15 months after Holcim’s French subsidiary Lafarge pleaded guilty to paying millions of dollars to the Islamic State group to keep a plant open in Syria and agreed to pay about $778 million in penalties in a settlement with U.S. authorities. At the time, the Islamic State group controlled a vast swath of Syrian territory and was engaged in torturing kidnapped Westerners. The listing, which is expected to be completed in the first half of next year, would create a North American unit that is targeting more than $20 billion in net sales by 2030, the company said. Holcim will retain its listing on the Swiss SIX stock exchange. Chairman and CEO Jan Jenisch will lead the North American operations and hand over duties of CEO of Holcim to executive committee member Miljan Gutovic, an Australian national, on May 1.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — Two federal environmental agencies issued plans Thursday to better protect endangered whales amid offshore wind farm development. The agencies said they are trying to find ways to better protect the whales amid a surge of offshore wind farm projects, particularly on the U.S. East Coast. They plan to look for ways to mitigate potential adverse impacts of offshore wind projects on the whales and their habitat. They and other scientific agencies say there is no evidence that offshore wind preparation work is harming or killing whales. As of September 2023, there were 30 offshore wind lease areas along the East Coast, the two agencies said.
