“Traverse City is becoming Myrtle Beach meets Hilton Head — a place catering to a population outside the region,” Mr. Treter said. What sets this project apart from others like it is how it’s paid for. Mr. Treter developed the space with Kate Redman, a lawyer who works with nonprofit organizations, and several other entrepreneurs who were dealing with similar challenges. They created a crowdfunding campaign that recruited nearly 500 residents to invest $1.3 million as a down payment to help finance the project’s construction and earn up to 7 percent annually in dividend payments. Roughly 500 more residents contributed $50 each to join the project as co-op members.

After a water leak damaged the flooring, my partner and I decided to remodel most of our house. We've also decided to do it ourselves while still living in it, which has caused some issues. We have had a blast learning new skills and teaching our kids that anything worth having is worth the hard work. It may have started as a leak, but we've always wanted to make the house our own. Together, we're making a home we can be proud to call our own and making memories the kids will never forget.

The world’s two most powerful countries, the United States and China, are meeting this week in Washington to talk about climate change. In an ideal world, where the clean energy transition was the top priority, they would be on friendlier terms. Maybe affordable Chinese-made electric vehicles would be widely sold in America, instead of being viewed as an economic threat. Instead, in the not-ideal real world, the United States is balancing two competing goals. Its concern is that Chinese dominance of the global market for these essential technologies would harm the U.S. economy and national security.

Some of the objects that Saar collects have sat unused in her converted-garage studio for years before finding their way into one of her artworks. When mortgage rates rise, consumers look for any way to lower their monthly payments, and that often leads them to adjustable-rate mortgages (ARMs). These loans offer lower interest rates than their fixed-rate counterparts but are considered riskier. When mortgage rates hit record lows back in 2021, the ARM share of applications was in the 3% range. Meanwhile, the average contract interest rate for 5/1 ARMs decreased to 6.60% from 6.64%. "Inflation remains stubbornly high, and this trend is convincing markets that rates, including mortgage rates, are going to stay higher for longer.

The US Department of Justice is expected to recommend that marijuana be rescheduled as a Schedule III controlled substance, a classification shared by prescription drugs such as ketamine and Tylenol with codeine. The standard rulemaking process is lengthy, is subject to a public comment period, and could take months to complete. However, rescheduling marijuana will not solve that federal-state conflict, the Congressional Research Service noted in a January 16 brief. States with medical marijuana programs do currently have some federal protections in place via appropriations legislation that restricts the Justice Department from interfering in those programs. The FDA’s scientific and medical evaluation of marijuana did not address products containing plant-derived cannabidiol, commonly known as CBD.
