Video of the plane debris taken at the purported crash site in the western Tver region of Russia matches the plane registered to Prigozhin. Investigations were started within the armed forces, and probably within the security forces as well. Any effort to paint Prigozhin as wealthy and corrupt stopped almost immediately, and no new financial investigations were announced. And in what might have been the last straw for Putin, Prigozhin released a video on Monday of himself standing in what looked like an African desert, boasting of his men’s exploits.

The 19th-century home, nicknamed the Jenkins Austin Day Mansion, is a landmark in Wauwatosa, a town just seven miles outside of Milwaukee, and is even on the National Register of Historic Places. The property was originally owned by Dr. Fisk Holbrook Day, the only doctor in town during the late 1800s, according to listing agent Donna Duesing. At one point, it was even regarded as the local "haunted house," according to a report from the Wauwatosa Landmark Commission.

Playing a quiet but important role in shaping the governor's remarks was the Washington-based Heritage Foundation, America's top conservative think tank, according to two people with knowledge of their interactions. The range and frequency of those discussions with DeSantis' campaign have not been previously reported. In addition to Carmack, the policy director, at least seven other Heritage staffers have taken positions in the DeSantis campaign. Whether DeSantis' connection to the think tank has been helpful for his campaign is an open question. Following the controversial March 13 statement, Heritage officials had a suggestion for the campaign, according to one person with knowledge of the discussions.
