New York CNN —Jon Stewart is extending his time in the hosting chair at “The Daily Show” through December 2025. In 2015, Stewart parted ways with “The Daily Show,” after 16 years in the hosting chair, and was followed by Trevor Noah, who hosted the show through 2022. Stewart’s initial return to “The Daily Show,” announced this January, came as the show looked to bolster its struggling ratings. The re-hire has largely paid off, with Stewart’s return consistently delivering higher ratings than the show has seen in recent years. Stewart’s return to Paramount Global has marked a major victory for the company as it looks to muscle up its streamer, Paramount+.

CNN —Michigan Wolverines quarterback Jack Tuttle announced his retirement from football Monday, citing concussions and other health concerns – the second college quarterback to make that decision in less than a week. Tuttle, a sixth-year senior who played for four years with the Indiana Hoosiers before transferring to Michigan ahead of the Wolverines’ 2023 national championship season, explained his decision in a post on X. Football has long had a problem with concussions and some players have pledged to donate their brains to science upon their death so the effects of repeated concussions can be studied. Tuttle, one of three starting quarterbacks that Michigan has used this year, having come in and played significant time against the University of Washington in a loss earlier this month. He started the school’s next game against the University of Illinois, which ended in a 21-7 defeat for the Wolverines.

Astronomers have never detected dark matter, but they believe it makes up about 85% of the total matter in the universe. Meanwhile, the existence of dark energy helps researchers explain why the universe is expanding — and why that expansion is speeding up. A prime example is the European Space Agency’s wide-angle Euclid telescope that launched in 2023 to investigate the riddles of dark energy and dark matter. Euclid this week delivered the first piece of a cosmic map — containing about 100 million stars and galaxies — that will take six years to create. These stunning 3D observations may help scientists see how dark matter warps light and curves space across galaxies.

CNN —After Israel’s attack on Iran Saturday, US officials were quick to caution both countries against perpetuating the cycle of violence, but analysts say lasting de-escalation is not a foregone conclusion. The airstrikes “should be the end of this direct exchange of fire between Israel and Iran,” a senior US administration official said after the attacks. After reports emerged of explosions heard in Tehran, Israel in a statement said it launched what it described as “precise strikes on military targets in Iran” early Saturday.
