NEW YORK, Sept 28 (Reuters) - R. Kelly, the multiplatinum R&B singer convicted twice this year of sex crimes, will be required to pay at least $300,000 in restitution to some of his victims, a federal judge said on Wednesday. Donnelly sentenced Kelly in June to 30 years in prison, after a jury convicted him of racketeering and other charges. The monthlong trial amplified accusations that had dogged the singer of the Grammy-winning hit "I Believe I Can Fly." Kelly was also convicted last month in Chicago on separate charges of child pornography and luring underage girls for sex. Kelly, whose full name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, is among the most prominent people convicted of sexual misbehavior during the #MeToo movement against such conduct by prominent men.

WASHINGTON — A Donald Trump fan who brought his teenage son along as he assaulted then-D.C. police officer Mike Fanone and another officer at the Capitol on Jan. 6 was sentenced to more than seven years in prison on Tuesday. The lack of data on the issue led the Council on Criminal Justice to launch a national commission to examine over the next two years why so many veterans land behind bars.

Passengers helped crew to restrain a 33-year-old man on an American Airlines flight on Wednesday. Alexander Tung Cuu Le, 33, has been charged with one count of interference with flight crew members. LOS ANGELES — A former dean at the University of Southern California pleaded guilty Monday in a bribery case involving a powerful Los Angeles politician who promised to help steer a multi-million contract to the school if his son got a scholarship and a teaching job. Flynn and Ridley-Thomas, who is now on the Los Angeles City Council, were charged in the public corruption case last year. He pleaded not guilty last October, only hours after his colleagues suspended him and the city controller cut off his pay.
