Chilean Jarry stole a set and threatened to snatch another before the world number one moved into the fourth round with a 6-3 6-7(6) 6-3 7-5 victory on Centre Court. Every match that I win on Centre Court is better for me to get into this court, this atmosphere," he told reporters. "As I said, last year it was really tough for me to play first match in the Centre Court. Every match that I didn't play on that court, I feel, as I said, that I belong to that court." "I watched a lot of videos, a lot of matches from legends playing on that beautiful court," he said.

Alcaraz passes test at Wimbledon, Rybakina on fire

In the men's draw, third seed Daniil Medvedev and fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas both swept through while 2021 runner-up Matteo Berrettini set up a showdown with Alcaraz. With the big-serving Berrettini up next, Alcaraz, who was a break down in the fourth set, said Saturday's test was just what he needed. Rybakina ensured a demoralising 48 hours for Britain as she demolished Katie Boulter 6-1 6-1 to end home hopes in the singles. But she lasted only 57 minutes as Kazakhstan's Rybakina sent out an ominous warning to those wanting her title. Second seed Sabalenka is also in the groove heading into the second week after a 6-2 6-3 defeat of Anna Blinkova.

CNN —Taylor Swift signed onto a lucrative touring partnership with FTX before its collapse, but FTX pulled out of the arrangement, according to a person familiar with the discussions. Bankman-Fried has been accused of orchestrating one of the biggest financial frauds in US history, allegedly costing investors billions of dollars and improperly using customer funds from his cryptocurrency exchange, FTX. But a person familiar with the Swift discussions said the artist’s side had agreed to a $100 million tour sponsorship deal, but the deal was never finalized due to hesitation on FTX’s side. Other celebrities, including Tom Brady, Gisele Bundchen, Steph Curry, and Naomi Osaka, signed deals with FTX, which declared bankruptcy last fall. Brady and Bundchen also held stakes in FTX that were likely entirely wiped out.

Hamilton would support peaceful protest at British GP

SILVERSTONE, England, July 6 (Reuters) - Seven-times world champion Lewis Hamilton said he would support a peaceful protest at the British Grand Prix this weekend as Formula One drivers voiced fears of environmental activists invading the track. Asked at Silverstone whether he would support a protest that did not involve a track invasion, Hamilton, who has previously expressed sympathy with the cause, replied: "Yes. I support peaceful protests." We don't want to be put in harm's way and we don't want to put anyone else in harm's way. So if there was to be one (a protest) we hope that it's not on track."

Alcaraz sets up Queen's final against De Minaur
  + stars: | 2023-06-24 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
In his first ATP Tour final on grass, Alcaraz will face Australian Alex de Minaur who earlier beat Danish second seed Holger Rune 6-3 7-6(2). Should Alcaraz win Sunday's final he would reclaim the world number one ranking from Novak Djokovic and would be seeded one at Wimbledon which begins on July 3. He forged an early break ahead in the second set and never looked in danger from that point on. Very happy to make my first final on grass and even more so at Queen's. He is the first Australian to reach the final at the Queen's pre-Wimbledon event since Lleyton Hewitt in 2006.

He announced his blockade in mid-February, holding up at least 150 pending promotions for generals and admirals. Individual senators gain the power to effectively block nominations by dragging out old and tedious Senate rules of procedure that are in desperate need of an update. Usually, the Senate majority leader brings up batches of routine military promotions and gets unanimous consent to approve them. June 19 (Reuters) - Rosemarie Aquilina, the American judge who sentenced disgraced USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar, has called for an independent inquiry into sports across Canada amid widespread allegations of harassment, abuse and bullying. "When will Canada hear its children and take this meaningful action to protect them from the pain, suffering and trauma they suffer in sport?" "Canada should be celebrating and honoring the excellence of Canadian athletes and their well-being, not profiting from their abuse. Sport Minister Pascale St-Onge announced a series of reforms in May aimed at holding Canada's national sport organizations accountable, but the many who have been calling for a national inquiry for months said the measures did not go far enough. The result left France top with 12 points, six ahead of second-placed Greece, who had Konstantinos Mavropanos sent off in the 69th minute after Mbappe's 55th minute spot kick. "We wanted to follow up on our win against Gibraltar, in front of our crowd," said midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, referring to France's 3-0 win on Friday. It came after earlier opportunities for Mbappe and Kingsley Coman but the offensive trio hit a brick wall. Vlachodimos parried Mbappe's spot kick but it had to be taken again as the keeper had left his goal line too early. Red Bull can win everything but the gap may be closing
  + stars: | 2023-06-19 | by ( Alan Baldwin | ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +3 min
June 19 (Reuters) - Red Bull boss Christian Horner recognised after Sunday's landmark Canadian Grand Prix that his runaway Formula One leaders could win every race this season. "On this venue yes, the gap is shorter... it's inevitable that they are closing, we'd be surprised if that wouldn't be the case," said Horner. If there is an Achilles' Heel in Red Bull's dominance, it is the current dependence on Verstappen for the top step of the podium. Should Verstappen suffer a setback, mechanical or otherwise, the chances of the second Red Bull coming through for the win are looking a lot less certain and rivals are sensing opportunities. Verstappen's last race retirement was in Australia in April 2022 and the last time he was beaten by someone not in a Red Bull was last November, when Mercedes's George Russell won in Brazil.

PARIS, June 10 (Reuters) - Pressure will be immense on Sunday when Novak Djokovic faces Casper Ruud in the French Open final with a record-breaking 23rd men's Grand Slam title and his position in the pantheon of tennis at stake. In 2021, Djokovic was on the brink of completing a calendar slam -- winning all four majors in the same year -- but was beaten in straight sets in the final in New York by Daniil Medvedev. "You remember the U.S. Open final he had with Medvedev after beating me in the semis still.
