CNN —The House voted on Wednesday to create a bipartisan task force to investigate the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. A resolution to establish the task force was approved in an overwhelmingly bipartisan vote of 416 to 0. The House task force will be made up of seven Republicans and six Democrats and will have subpoena authority, House Speaker Mike Johnson and House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries announced this week. Congress has moved swiftly to investigate the security failures that led to the shooting on July 13. According to the FBI’s analysis of Thomas Matthew Crooks’ laptop, Crooks searched how far Lee Harvey Oswald was when he shot and killed President John F. Kennedy in 1963. The search was on July 6, the same day the Trump rally was announced. “That’s a search that’s obviously significant in terms of his state of mind,” the FBI director added. The drone was in the air for approximately 11 minutes, and investigators believe Crooks watched a live feed from the drone on his phone. CNN —Israeli airstrikes targeted Houthi rebels in Yemen a day after the Iran-backed group claimed a deadly attack on the Israeli city of Tel Aviv. The statement came soon after the Houthi-run Al Masirah TV reported airstrikes targeting oil facilities in the western port of Hodeidah, adding that there had been deaths and injuries. According to Houthi spokesperson Mohammed Abdulsalam, the Israeli strikes hit oil tanks and a power station. Investigators searching Thomas Crooks’ belongings found a drone in his car. The discoveries of the ladder, backpack and drone come as investigators are struggling to find a motive for Crooks’ assault. After the shooting, multiple law enforcement sources said investigators found a bulletproof vest, three fully loaded magazines and two remote-controlled explosive devices in Crooks’ car.
