The finale of “Succession” might have left die-hard fans wondering what Kendall was going to do with the rest of his life, but everyone else can now turn their attention to the summer television season. ”And Just Like That” (Max) and “The Bear” (FX on Hulu) had their season premieres last week. “Carpool Karaoke: The Series” and “Swagger” (both on Apple TV+) also returned. So it’s time to take a plate and a beverage into the living room to catch up on last year’s obsessions and to cultivate new ones. “The concept of watching television while you eat, first of all, of course has been happening since the invention of television,” said Laura Shapiro, author of “Something from the Oven: Reinventing Dinner in 1950s America.”

Everyone in San Francisco got a Prius, and they were so smug about their Priuses that the air over San Francisco became covered in smug. Global laming.”FARHAD MANJOO: And it really sort of was the start of what I think of as the troll-y right. And that sentiment I think came from “South Park.” If you think about especially younger people on the right who kind of found fame online, people like Ben Shapiro or Steven Crowder, this YouTuber who takes the tone of “South Park,” I think, to a very extreme degree. One thing I see often from right-wing celebrities or influencers like Donald Trump Jr. for example, is constantly tweeting “South Park” memes. That was the joke that “South Park” was making in 2005, and now it’s the view of the right.

The cult of Emily Oster

Emily Oster is sitting in the back of a car, checking her Garmin watch as we lurch through rush-hour traffic toward the Holland Tunnel. A self-described expert in data, Oster uses her economics training to dig into studies on things like circumcision and screen time and translate them for popular consumption. There doesn't seem to be much of a gap between the way Oster presents herself in her books and newsletters and the way she conducts her life. Unsurprisingly, economics informs every aspect of the way Oster sees the world. When Oster was a toddler, her mother told a Yale colleague that Oster often talked to herself before falling asleep.

According to Politico's Jonathan Martin, Obama has recently hosted a series of "informal, but lengthy private meetings with groups of next-generation House Democrats." One of the topics of dinner conversation, per Martin, was how Democrats can avoid coming off as elitist. Before the 2022 midterms, Obama returned to the campaign trail where he tore into the Republican Party and Trump. It is likely that Obama will eventually take on a high-profile role as the 2024 campaign heats up. As president, Obama dubbed Clinton "Secretary of Explaining Stuff" for his campaign trail appearances.

House Republicans moved to effectively strip security clearances from former intelligence officials that raised questions about Hunter Biden's emails. The letter did not propose any evidence of Russian action or even explicitly suggest that Moscow was behind the story. Years later, The Washington Post commissioned two security experts who verified thousands of emails from the hard drive that contained copies of Biden's emails, photos, and other messages that were left at a Delaware computer repair store. "Is it the role of this committee to ban individuals from having security clearances for signing their name to a letter – expressing their opinions as ordained in the Constitution?" "If we want to take this committee down a road of punitive action, I have plenty of members of the Trump administration who I think should never hold security clearances again based on their actions surrounding January 6th," she said.

In each case, Coinbase filed briefs as an "amicus," or friend of the court. A ruling favoring another crypto defendant at the trial court level would not be binding on Coinbase's own case, but the company could potentially point to it in its defense, legal experts said. Coinbase argued the digital assets on its platform do not pass that test, in part because they lack contractual agreements. In its other amicus brief, Coinbase urged a federal judge in Manhattan to allow the fair notice defense in the SEC case against Ripple Labs, which was the industry's highest-profile battle with the regulator prior to the Coinbase case. Coinbase argued to U.S. District Judge Analisa Torres that denying the Ripple defendants the fair notice defense "would jeopardize the validity of the defense in future cases."

Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania said on Saturday he was “confident” the portion of Interstate 95 in Philadelphia that collapsed last weekend will open within the next two weeks. “We are going to get traffic moving again,” Mr. Shapiro said on Twitter, crediting an “all hands on deck approach.” Initially, he had said he expected the repairs to take months. The crash on Sunday of a truck hauling gasoline led to a fire that left a section of the northbound side of the highway in ruins and the southbound section so badly damaged that it was demolished this week. Local officials are working with the federal government to rebuild the roadway. Before the collapse, that stretch of the highway, in northeast Philadelphia near the Delaware River, was used by about 160,000 vehicles a day, officials said, though much of the interstate traffic traveling through the region already bypassed Philadelphia using the New Jersey Turnpike, which runs roughly parallel to I-95 east of the river.

Some anticipate the Fed will raise rates again in July in an attempt to bring inflation down to the 2% target. Even if the Fed forgoes a rate increase on Wednesday, Fed officials have suggested the Fed may hike rates again at later meetings. The survey also found people's expectations of job loss fell 1.3 percentage points to 10.9%, suggesting rising job market strength. "I do not think that wages are the principal driver of inflation," Fed Chair Jerome Powell told reporters after the Fed's May policy meeting. "For instance, recent evidence shows that wage growth tends to follow inflation, as well as expectations of future inflation."

People need to prepare for a surge in AI-generated content being shared online, a tech CEO told CNN. The viral AI-generated image showing an explosion near the Pentagon is "truly the tip of the iceberg of what's to come," a CEO who works in image authenticity detection has warned. Victims of abuse and their families, sometimes visibly weeping, joined Mr. Shapiro on the stage. The report reverberated at the highest levels of the church, with the Vatican expressing “shame and sorrow” over the findings. Now the results of those investigations are rolling out, refocusing attention on the sprawling abuse scandal, and in some cases providing fresh details. Community college enrollment rose this spring for the first time in a decade. Another route becoming more prevalent among the cohort is opting for community college instead of four-year undergraduate degrees. But according to a report by the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center, community college enrollment rose 0.5% in spring 2023. The drastic difference in cost is pushing many toward the two-year community college degrees.
